I need your advice urgently. A friend of mine just came back from the US with 2 cars. A 2006 LR3 and a 2006 Mercedez Benz Ml350. Both have the same price. My uncle wants to buy one of them He is asking for my recommendation on which to pick. As the middleman here, I am getting my own commission. I want to make the right recommendation so that in future, my uncle will respect me.

That's why I need your advice urgently. The car will be used by a man. He is tall. 6ft 3in or so. Both cars are 2006 year models. Both cars have the same price. Which should I recommend?

Let him go for the LR3. It is a very solid work horse. Make sure the balloons are intact and working fine. Service as recommended. Hope the dashboard hasn't cracked yet. Watch out for that. But this can be rescued also.
The ML is a good machine but the transmission wahala is more worrisome than the ongoing fuel scarcity in my area. I have used both, so my assessment is borne out of practical experience.

The LR3 is recommended as far as long term satisfaction is concerned, the LR3 is preferred, not to mention that it is a more practical car. I know nothing about the fuel mileage on both cars but I doubt it should be of significant importance. Again, the 2006 LR3 doesn't look too outdated by the current LR4 look, there has also just been a face lift to the model with the new lights and more curvy body, the Benz on the other hand has a lot of successors with more modern looks by all standards. As far as maintenance is concerned, I know of a Land Rover specialist in person of Sooperrescue, I don't know any such person for Mercedes products.
