Kodejuice:Let me try The painter will receive $1700 While his assistant will receive $300. Since they both earn $50 per day, they will both have to work for 40days to earn $2000. But the assistant didn't work for 10 days which means they only worked together for 30days So $50 x 30days =$1500 so the painter worked alone for 12.5days to make up the total $2000. If they were to divide the money, then, the painter will get $1200 for the 30days they worked together + the extra 12.5days which he worked alone ($40x12.5days)=$500. so he receives a total of $1700 While his assistant who worked for 30days and earns $10 per day will receive $300 for the 30days he worked. |

Kodejuice:Basic algebra. Let days assistance worked = D D * 10 = Amount Assistance got paid D+10 * 40 = Amount painter got paid ((D+10) * 40) + (D * 10) = 2000 40D + 400 + 10D = 2000 50D + 400 = 2000 50D + 400-400 = 2000-400 50D = 1600 50D/50 = 1600/50 D = 32 Therefore assistance received 32 * 10 = 320 painter received 40D + 400 = 1280 + 400 = 1680 |
