So what is the difference between a ram and a core
What is Random Access Memory ( RAM)?

ram is system memory that store things like your cached. access things that you open before is faster as they are your cached. no won't make it to reload. but when you use killer app to clear your ram. app cached we be deleted. the bigger the ram and more space and faster it be come.

What about celeron?
Celeron is a brand name given by Intel Corp. to a number of different IA-32 and x86-64 computer microprocessor models targeted at
budget personal computers.
Celeron processors can run all IA-32 computer programs, but their performance is often significantly lower when compared to similar CPUs with higher-priced Intel CPU brands. For example, the Celeron brand will often have less cache memory, or have advanced features purposely disabled. These missing features can have a variable impact on performance, but is often very substantial. While a few of the Celeron designs have achieved surprising performance, most of the Celeron line has exhibited noticeably degraded performance. [1] This has been the primary justification for the higher cost of other Intel CPU brands versus the Celeron range.
Introduced in April 1998, [2] the first Celeron branded CPU was based on the Pentium II branded core. Subsequent Celeron branded CPUs were based on the Pentium III, Pentium 4 , Pentium M, and Intel Core branded processors. The latest Celeron design (as of January 2014) is based on the fourth generation Core i3/i5/i7 series (Haswell ). [3] This design features independent processing cores (CPUs), but with only 66% as much cache memory as the comparable Core i3 offering.
Celeron 733 MHz processor boxed 13 November 2000 [4]
Background
As a product concept, the Celeron was introduced in response to Intel's loss of the low-end market, in particular to the Cyrix
6x86 , the AMD K6 , and the IDT Winchip . Intel's existing low-end product, the Pentium MMX, was no longer performance competitive at 233 MHz. [5] Although a faster Pentium MMX would have been a lower-risk strategy, the industry standard Socket 7 platform hosted a market of competitor CPUs which could be drop-in replacements for the Pentium MMX. Instead, Intel pursued a budget part that was pin-compatible with their high-end Pentium II product, using the Pentium II's Slot 1 interface.
Intel hired marketing firm Lexicon Branding , which had originally come up with the name "Pentium", to devise a name for the new product as well. The San Jose Mercury News described Lexicon's reasoning behind the name they chose: "Celer is Latin for swift. As in 'accelerate.' And 'on.' As in 'turned on.' Celeron is seven letters and three syllables, like Pentium. The 'Cel' of Celeron rhymes with 'tel' of Intel." [6]

Joel3:
point, our computers had a central processing unit (CPU) with a single core. These days, most CPUs you’ll come across are dual core, quad core, or even octo core. We’ll explain exactly what a core is, dual core vs quad core, and how this all impacts your real-world computer usage.

The answers aren’t just helpful for leaning more about your computer — you may have to choose between a less-expensive CPU with fewer cores or a more-expensive CPU with more cores when buying a laptop, tablet , or even a smartphone. Knowing the difference between dual core vs quad core CPUs – and what it means for you – will help you make smart decisions when purchasing new hardware.

What Is a Core?
Each CPU “core” is actually a separate central processing unit, which is the part of the CPU that actually does the work. For example, a dual-core chip may look like a single CPU chip, but it actually has two physical central processing units on the chip.

Additional central processing units allow a computer to do multiple things at once. If you’ve ever used a single-core CPU and made the upgrade to a dual-core CPU, you should have noticed a significant difference in how responsive your computer is.

For example, let’s say you’re extracting an archive file and browsing the web at the same time. If you had a single-core CPU in your computer, web browsing wouldn’t be very responsive. The single core would have to split its time between web browsing and file-extraction tasks. If you had a dual-core CPU with two cores, one core would work on extracting the file while the other core did your web-browsing work. Web browsing would be much faster and more responsive.

Whether you’re doing multiple things at once or not, your computer is often doing system tasks in the background and you can benefit from additional cores to keep the operating system responsive. Applications can also be written to take advantage of multiple cores.

For example,

Google Chrome renders each website with a separate process. This allows Google Chrome to use different CPUs for different websites rather than using a single CPU for all browser-related tasks.

Clock Speed vs. Cores
CPUs have a clock speed – think of it as how fast the CPU does work. (That’s actually an imperfect analogy as the truth is a lot more complicated, but it will have to do for now.)
For example, Intel’s Core i5-3330 processor has a clock speed of 3 GHz and is a quad-core processor, which means it has four cores. All four cores in this Intel i5 processor are each running at 3 GHz.

Doubling The Cores Doesn’t Double The Speed
Many computer programs are single-threaded, which means that their work can’t be divided across multiple CPUs. They must each run on a single CPU. This means that doubling the cores won’t double their performance.

If you have a single-threaded application running on a 3 GHz quad-core CPU, that application will run at 3 GHz — not 12 GHz. It will use one core and the other three cores will sit idle, waiting for other tasks to perform.

Writing properly multithreaded applications that can scale across several CPUs at once is actually a difficult problem in computer science. It’s becoming a more crucial
problem, as the future looks to be computers with more and more cores instead of fewer cores at faster and faster speeds.

Some applications can take advantage of multiple cores. Google Chrome’s multi-process architecture allows it to perform actions across several different cores at once. Some computer games can divide their calculations across multiple separate cores at once.

However, most of the applications you use are likely single-threaded. A quad-core CPU won’t run Microsoft Office twice as fast as a dual-core CPU. If all you do is run Microsoft Office, the performance might be extremely similar.
More cores help if you’re looking to do more at once or if you have a multithreaded application that can take advantage of them. For example, if you’re running several
virtual machines while encoding video, extracting files, and doing other CPU-demanding things on your computer, an octo-core CPU may be able to keep up while even a quad-core CPU may stumble under such load.

Dual Core, Quad Core & More
Phrases like “dual core,” “quad core,” and “octo core” all just refer to the number of cores a CPU has:

Dual Core: Two cores.
Quad Core: Four cores.
Hexa Core: Six cores.
Octo Core: Eight cores.
Deca Core: Ten cores.

really? i use an intel celeron pc..or is it why I am always getting blue screen and overheating? I have tried solving it with changing the rams and fans, all with no luck...I haven't even used the pc to do any reasonable job at all even to play songs it just goes off or displays the blue screen

your OS is the problem, back up your files, and reload the OS, you could give a computer geek to do it for you

Nice job sir Joel.. I'll just like to add that Intel core i3 & i5 processors both have 2 CORES but 4 THREADS EACH.... It's some (if not all) the core i7 that has 4 CORES.
Still, it's a nice article.
You are not entirely correct sir, Intel Corei3 is indeed a dual-core processor, however, the Intel CoreI5 processor has both dual core and quad core variants of processors ditto for core17... Shalom!

You have a low-end processor that is obviously not equipped to handle most of the things you are throwing at it... You might consider changing your PC, get at least a third generation corei3 (run away from the 1st generation o) and thank me later.

there are many nice laptops you will get with that budget, but if you wamt optimal performance and future proof you can add btw 5k and 10k... Visit westgate in Ikeja, you will be spoilt for choices. Just insist that you wamt a corei3 processor 500GB hard drive and 4gb Ram. I am an HP fanboy but amy of Dell, Toshiba and Lenovo will be awesome

If your system goes of on its own try changing ram again. Possibly big sized ram. Change all the ram not changing one slot and leaving the other

thanks for the recommendations pal,I even would have went for HP but there are word on the world that they overheat and I'm too afraid of such systems since heat is a big enemy to any pc..I will try going for Dell..I wouldn't near Toshiba since I have a friend who his made him a regular at the engineer's shop.....thanks for the specs listings too,it really put a bull's eye on my target ..

actually I only changed one slot but with the look on the second one it seemed okay to me coz it only came with one gig and I thought it needed an upgrade so I added the new guy to it...are you saying that one bad ram could hurt the new guy?
