I totally agrEe with you.

We are just messing around, until we decide to do the right thing by adopting true federalsm/regionalim we will continue to dance about like a yoyo.

As per the parasitic regions, pride will not allow them let go just because they fEel that once they let go a particular region will be too rich owing to the fact that all the money the country is sharing is coming from that region.

But they fail to realise that if they let go and invest in whatever they have a comparative advantage they would fair better.

A state like kogi receiving about 4-5billion monthly allocation will even make 10-15B monthly if it harnessess its own human and material resources for itself. Same with other states but with diff amout higher than what they currently receive as allocation.

In less than 10yrs we can get out of this situation and be prosperous if we decide to practise true Federalism/regionalism from today.
you get the gist my man. All the states are viable but free money from Abuja every month has made us very lazy..Free things breeds laziness and that's the problem of this zoo-like country. Just like the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention.

huh Charity begins at home... This is what happens when you refuse to put your home in order... By having a full refining capacity for all grades of PMS for your local consumption and even entire West African needs! But instead chose to propp up foreign refineries and keep them afloat! May the glut quadruple IJN.
Lalasticlala FP
You are sooooo correct. Imagine this stupid APC govt and their minions NNPC (Ibe Kachikwu) telling us that our refineries cannot operate because there is shortage of crude to sell to them. Yet we have unsold crude for 2 months. Yet Nigerians are groaning under the weight of fuel scarcity. Thunder fire not only APC but that cabal that is holding this country hostage.
However, some traders are of the view that refinery margins remained positive still, with gasoline demand in Nigeria itself helping to support European and United States’ refining margins, and buyers in California and Asia also keen to import more gasoline.

true federalism will lead to diversification of the economy..As long as we keep practicing this current system, Nigeria will never diversify...get that into your head.
That is not true. China is not federalist state yet had a diversified economy whilst Switzerland a so called true federalist state is not diversified in its constituent regional economies.

You have been fed on lies.

Now imagine you open a company in Nigeria like Nairabet or a sales company, you could be liable for taxes in all the states and occur double taxation.

i just told a colleague in the office that until we quench like greece then would we think of a way forward to practice true federalism...till now i have not heard one minister or a senator talk about true federalism and resource control as the way forward for this agbaya country to bounce back economically and for jobs to be created in every state....the government still hopes to be dependent on oil reason why buhari insisted that he be the petroleum minister, rather than think absolute diversification of the economy....the government still wants all of us to be body hugged in lagos state like mad people...
Most of our Senators and House of rep. are only after salary! They are not professionals!
Look at Sen. Bukola Saraki, he was trained in the medical field! Is the medical field feeling his impact?
Has he made law(s) beneficiary to the masses in that regard?
So also is very many of them. All they do is to attend parties and snap pictures. The owambe people!
All these fall in economy no really concern them, they are in money, investors with our money and own chains of business.
Only God can save us.

Tell Buhari to go and borrow from China say $1trillion. They have excess funds.. Let every Nigerian keep enjoying. When things improve, we pay back. Say when oil hits above $50 a barrel.

Its just that he lacks the management acumen.
Management acumen is not a requirement for President.
No Nigerian leader had management apart from Awo and Obj. Awo's own was natural talent, he was running Nigeria for Gowon. Obj's own was to put his nose into everything going on in government and bully everybody on every small thing.
Presidency requires "leadership acumen" , vision, vision communication and performance monitoring of the managers below the President who are mainly ministers and Perm Secs.
USA has had very good presidents who were soldiers, lawyers and even an actor and they did well.

We told them he's old, dull and slow, but they said they preferred a dullàrd that created Western Germany and President Mitchell's to a PhD holder that transformed the Agricultural sector of the economy.

We told them he doesn't have the moral standard, will and the technological knowhow to tackle corruption, but they claimed even witch hunting is fighting corruption.

We told them he's full of lies and deciet, but they hoped on the mirage NGN5,000 salary for the jobless and one meal pa day for their kids.

We told them that since he knew nothing about fuel subsidy, then he knows nothing about the petroleum industry/sector of the Nigerian economy but they claimed he'll stabilize world oil price and reduce PMS price to NGN40 per litre.

We told them he has no respect for the rule of law, but they claimed the judiciary was corrupt.

We told them his government is usually marked with heavy job losses and too harsh economic policies but they said they preferred to be jobless in a change government than to be gainfully employed in a Transformation government.

We told them he is not as humble as he looks but they said he had only NGN1million and 150 cows.

We told them that he's too old to govern, they claimed our youths are wasted generations.

We told them he doesn't have a certificate, they said he can use his NEPA bill.

We told them he's vindictive, but they said as far as they are concerned, he can employ all his family members, relatives and well wishers into his cabinet, even if they have no formal education, as long as they deliver.

We told them he's an enemy of democracy, they claimed they prefer his autocracy to the Nigerian Democracy.

We told them he's not humble but only a pretender, they said he'll sell off the presidential jets in order to cut cost of governance.

We told them he doesn't care about the Nigerian citizens, but they claimed he belongs to everybody and belongs to nobody, even though his appointments were mainly for the north, he embarks on fruitless journeys and speaks only to BBC Hausa.

We told them he supported Boko Haram, they told us that even if they found him in a meeting with Shekau and co, that wouldn't stop them from voting him.

We asked for any tangible thing he's done for the country after staying away from government for so long, they claimed it didn't matter.

Finally, we told them he's a scam, but they shouted Sai Baba! grin

"FOOLISH" IS NOT IGBO!!!

For 6 years our own (Igbo) occupied the offices of Deputy Senate President, Deputy Speaker, SGF, Minister of Finance /Coordinating Minister of the Nigerian Economy, Ministers of Health, Aviation, Labour, Petroleum (by Marriage), Chief of Army Staff e.t.c yet nobody complained that the Igbos got too much of the Federal Power rations neither did your highly placed brethren improve your lot in terms of development!

Other ethnic groups watched carefully and played their politics towards national relevance while we the Igbos got carried away and played politics of the pocket where semi-illiterate money bags charted the cause for us!

Those who have access to Aso Rock and got fat contracts sustained the lies to hoodwink both Aso Rock Gods and the Igbos

In blind response devoid of any logical reasonings the Igbos put all their fragile eggs in one basket that had lost form and shape to protect them.
.
As the results of those fatal errors set in the same money miss roads are now fanning the ambers of secession as their next meal ticket bargaining chip while the teaming youth they lure with money and lies risk losing everything including their lives for nothing in the end.

Compare the Igbo "TAN" money bags and/or failed politicians to the likes of Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola who are hardly seen or heard playing partisan talk less of ethno-religious politics!
Imagine Dangote gathering the leaders of Northerners in Lagos and imposing political party or candidate in Lagos State politics on them. Such is near impossible!
The Igbos have allowed derogatory pocket politics to puncture their natural nobility as a people!

With men of honour and class like Ebitu Ukaiwe, Emeka Anyaoku, Ndubisi Kanu, Ben Nwabueze and others the Igbos should have no business listening to the likes of Ifeanyi Uba (Capital Oil), Chris Uba etc any time they talk politics!

"Foolish" is not IGBO!!!
I know you are not to be classified as "intelligent" by any stretch of imagination so you might have difficulty comprehending what Ihijerika was alluding to!

Let me also help you with What General Gowon said, just immediately after the Civil War:

General Gowon: The Yiibos will be treated as equal citizens of this country...... UNLESS BY THEIR OWN BEHAVIOUR, THEY ACT AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS. (8:30 seconds on the tape) - General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria's head of State!

I disagree with the notion that "Government cannot run any business successfully"!

Maybe we should "qualify" that statement by saying "A BAD/CORRUPT GOVT cannot run any business successfully?

The U.K has built Refineries, it is currently building a Nuclear Power plant, same goes for France and many other countries.
These are also "Govt"!

The difference therein, is our own LEVEL OF CORRUPTION IN GOVT CIRCLES.
Until we give very serious attention to tackling corruption cum Economic Sabotage by imposing the DEATH PENALTY, as done in countries like China and most of Asia...... we would continue to go in circles

Let us also note that the private sector is all about "maximum profit, at the shortest cycle". They are no charity!

For capital intensive projects like Power, Steel, Petrochemical to some extent, whose "payback cycle" runs into 50years and above, you will hardly get a Private Company investing into such because they cant wait for that long to recoup their investment.

Such Capital intensive ventures are "first" funded and built by Govt (using tax payers money and National Income) ...and then "sold to privates hands" FOR MANAGEMENT in short cycles (say ten year cycles) so that Govt can recoup its own investments back, bit by bit because Govt is a "continuum".

Did you notice that it was Govt that built virtually anything of intensive Capital in Nigeria and most where done under the military regime where the "political will" was there? Talk of 3rd Mainland Bridge, Abuja capital City, All the refineries, Steel Mills, e.t.c
Even the 2nd Niger Bridge used to hoodwink the Ibo peeps by GEJ is still a phantom project!
grin

Take electric power for example:
After ceaseless "privatisation and Discos there and there".... we are yet to see a single private investor who has contributed just half of what the previous NEPA/ECN contributed to the National grid.

All we have are pockets of micro-power generators that are made to specifically power a single project!
Only the Federal Govt can build a substantial Power station of say 3,000MW in one go
All these noise about foreign investors coming-in over the years, ...is a SCAM

As for "WHAT", with a large population of almost 180Million, we should focus more on our "internal markets and consumption".
When we build a Refinery, l am sure there would be no shortage of consumption for the output, within Nigeria.
Our problem lies in trying to export "Unprocessed, raw material goods", from Cocoa, to Coffeee, to Crude oil, to Bitumen, e.t.c.

Raw Materials cost less, are subject to buyer's manipulation of the markets and does not add much value to the producer's economy.

On "Where", l think the best option is to build such refinery close to the source of "raw material"..... which means in the South South.

But there us an "element of caution" here:
With the Ibos playing "spoilers' and trying to annexe the Niger Delta into their Biafra project, l bet anyone who is President would think twice before putting all the nation's resources in one area! ... just in-case the unexpected happens.

This is why you see a refinery in Kaduna and the raw material have to be transported "uneconomically" through pipes, all the way to the refinery, from down South.
That is just the REALITY and we should not deceive ourselves thinking those who make such decisions are "not guided" properly. undecided
The last Civil war instigated by these same Easterners, was an eye-opener.

Finally, Oil Blocs are no longer peculiar to a particular region of Nigeria though some are more "economically viable" than others.
Moreso, the price of Oil and the future of Oil as a major export earner is increasingly under threat and as such, it may finally be a non-variable in the balance of power equation, in not too distant future

Read my post again.

Who implied the present refineries?

We are not even talking about local consumption here, rather, exporting refined products -- we'r talking big business, as far back as '91/'92 we were raking in hundreds of millions of dollars in refined products exports.

No one is implying the government building or running the process/re-generation, rather, establishing policies, creating and maintaining an enabling environment . . . PPP does help too.

BTW, how does diversification warant shutting down the oil industry?

Would expanding, re-creating/re-generating the oil industry mean we are handicapped to diversify?
