I apologise for any typographical error in this post, they are due to the inescapable and irresistible aroma of this delicious meal on my table. With respect to those who have posited that the students are to be blamed for the decrepit state of OAU's hostels and lecture theatres, I should note here that some of, or rather most of, these rotten structures were last renovated in the 80s. I concede that students should have maintained these structures better, but there's is little saving to be done when all has been lost for so long. And in this vein, the school management has only accelerated the decay; rooms meant for two in the 1990s are now allocated to 6 and those created for 4 are now assigned for occupation by twelve. The congestion is further made dire by reason of "squatting"; so many students are left without an assigned bedspace, so they end up squeezing in with already "overcapacitated" rooms. In some dire cases, which are several, 16-20 students make a 2-occupant room their abodes. Such is the overcrowding that loss of property is like loss of hair. Because of the congestion and overpopulation, anything left functional is easily lost to overuse and misuse. An electric socket in a room bears the load of 20 or more phones, laptops, lamps, etc. The only remaining WC toilet on a storey house is barraged day in day out by over 100 people. To talk of the cleanliness of the water usually supplied in most hostel would be largely unnecessary, as pictures of "Omi Omole" are everywhere on the Internet. Most of the lecture theatres, laboratories and edifices the institution prides itself on are rotten and their once-state-of-the-art equipments dysfunctional. I would continue talking about other sore sights, but as I'm busy devouring a long-missed dish at home, I'll just shut up here, and plead with whoever is offended by this to please forgive me. I don't want to lose anything because of a post on the Internet like so many people have. |

Stop misinforming the public, the hostels were not last renovated in the '80s, I finished last year and I witnessed renovation during my time |

kunbit:What kind of renovation are you talking about? Do you understand the meaning of renovation? Please state examples, and should there be any (which I doubt) I guess it should be easy to see I said most of the structures were not renovated since the 80s, not all. |
