The choice of concrete /block casting for kitchen carbinets is great interms of durability and resistance to heat and other attacks .
The pic attached is of block /concrete with granite top.and as far as iam concerned its not badatall precision should be watched@. (the white spotare pop mess )

Another quick question (excuse my ignorance). Is it now customary to tile the whole kitchen/bathroom?

In my young days and in some other parts of the world they tile 3/4 lenght (except in the shower) which is fully tiled to ceiling but I notice here that whole kitchens/bathrooms are tiled from ground to top.

I quite like the kitchen with the granite worktop. I mean it lacks all the glitz of a wood worktop with the shiny red colors etc but I like practicality and durability that the casted one offers.

Also on the bathroom, correct me if i am wrong but if one tiles the bathroom to head height lets say 6/7 foot high, could water splash stain the walls. Are there any disadvantages to tiling 75 - 80% of the height of a wall ?

coughs and clears throat, in all honesty, if screeding is really worth the expense, then nobody would need to argue so energetically for it. a good smooth plaster, textcote on external walls, emulsion on internal walls and 99% of Nigerians would won't even know the difference between a screeded and a non screeded wall if any. make una no go for my head o.

There is a guy called Trumpcoat who really knows his onions as far as paints and painting is concerned but i have not seen him in NL for a while now.

to have a good a very good finished wall you need to have a good stable wall that moisture will not rise through, will not crack due to settlement or over loading. You need to have a very good plaster sand, very good mix (preferably 1:1:4) and then all other things follows.

Does it mean with this you don't need to do screeding? Will it accept acrylic emulsion paint without screeding?

pls am abt doing renovation, i want to convert an existing building to guest house.
am considering using polystyrene for the parapet work, as i wont be able to break down the walls for the pillars.
my questions;

the polystyrene are made of which materials?
how durable are they?
hw can i get them?
are u on whatssapp or bbm?

Yes. Water can still splash past those height. Imagine me for example, I am 6ft 3in when I raise my hands, I am touching the ceiling, especially with our short ceilings here in USA. So you can see that I can splash water on the wall easily.
I like the idea of full tiles in bathrooms and kitchens.. there are lots of advantages... disadvantages is only cost...

I am a small boy but if you are using paved stones, please treat the soil with a Herbicide and lay a DPM to prevent growth of grasses in-between.

It will save you a lot of headaches in future.

Polystyrene are made from petrochemical raw materials, similar to those whitish stuff used to package electronics

It's very durable.
