Nigerian Graduates With Offensive Use Of Grammar by Nobody:
I remember our former minister of finance making a statement and I quote "It's not that there isn't job out there, but most Nigerian graduates are unemployable"
Well, I quiet agree with the statement for some reason. I met this pretty lady who just graduated from Lagos State University (LASU), She studied Marketing and all packaged up. During our whatsapp chat session, I'm sorry to say but her English usage is absolutely obfuscating and brutally offensive for a graduate of one of the renown Universities in Nigeria. This brought me to the thought of how she managed to graduate when she couldn't even make a full statement without grammatical explosion!

Maybe I'm missing something about the Nigerian University System cuz I didn't study here in Nigeria and during my NYSC service year, alot of graduates don't really act like one but, my question is.... Does it mean people pay lecturers and/professors to graduate from University?? What's going on in Nigerian Universities?

Someone should enlighten Me pls; I really want to know what's up! wink

Yes. A lot of people paid thier way thru university. I remember a girl i served with couldnt fill her form properly and she graduated with a second class upper. However, English language is borrowed and learnt and may not be the sole criterium to appraise ones education. A lot of people can do but may not be able to speak.

Down here, people go to school for papers and not what you think.

Their investments in education is like that of a fish farm owner... Get it undecided

This is one of the problems... How do they scale thru tests and exams if they couldn't make complete and correct statements... undecided

I grab. That shows why our graduates are unemployable. They only got the papers but no skills upstairs to offer for employment.

Thanks for the highlight wink

A lot of developed nations have professors and noble laureates that cant even communicate in English. That didnt stop them from attaining excellence in thier professions.Yes, English is important but we must understand that one can be educated via other languages be it native or foreign.

You re right, other countries might teach their students in with their own language and expect them to write their tests and exams in their own language eg. German, Chinese, Spanish, French and so on, but in a country like Nigeria where we were being taught in English and expected to write tests and exams or even make presentations in English, how do they scale thru. That's my curiosity.

True. We are tested by our adopted lingua franca. But have we stopped to think that maybe more people will be educated if we teach in our own local languages?....

I wish they would adopt that idea of yours, but apparently not. Now how these people who can't read /speak/write well scale thru the University's tests and exams is still what I'm pondering on huh
Is it bribery or girls hitting on lecturers?
Still curious tho
