Me Thinks the "stress" of typing the apostrophe in " i'm ", is the reason for this... Unfortunately, it has become a very bad habit. |

I'm is the short form of "I am" "am" is always accompanied with "I" after it. It's never alone , used for questions mostly e.g I'm surprised, am I surprised?, I'm going, am I going? Just my 2 cents, hope it helps. Go to Google for more info N/b you can't say "am going" you always have to personalise with "I" 3 Likes |

It's both worrisome and depressing. Blame it on our emphasis on products, instead of process. If we get the process right, we won't have poor products. 1 Like |

I know the difference but I can't be bothered looking for that silly apostrophe when "am" could as well serve the same purpose even if frowned upon by grammar purist. |

horexy: I personally don't write like that, but I tell you, there is a reason for it. It's always in a bid to type faster, and use fewer letters. While chatting, many people including me write things like. "will see you tomorrow", "haven't been there before", "can't try that" etc. It's just the same way that some people write "am coming" . 1 Like |

JimTiger4:Though I don't make 'the mistake', but it's informally accepted. Afterall, 'Am going.' is of no difference to 'Will do it.', yet you didn't criticize the latter. 1 Like |

Seriously speaking, I'm so baffled why they keep on making this very mistake. Is it out of ignorance? Or just because they sound alike? No, I think I'll settle for the former. Ignorance is a disease. |

Gerrard59: We are on second page now,yet nobody has been bold enough to clearly give a distinction between these two words. Even this so-called Gerrard95 that seem like one who has stuffed his head with numerous pedantic theories and immense knowledge of no practical value can't simply provide a comprehensive distinction. #Smh Anyway, for those who care: The difference between I'm and am is: I'm is the first person singular pronoun "I" and auxiliary verb "am" while 'am' is just an auxiliary verb that can't start a sentence. Hence, it's wrong to write: Am with you my love instead write I'm with you my love. Conversely,do not write: "It appears you know who I'm missing",rather, write thus - "It appears you know who am missing". I hope this helps. 1 Like 1 Share |

horexy:While you are absolutely right about your comments, but then what's the true essence of social media? It's of course a platform to socialise, creating an impression/resemblance of how you would probably relate to d frnd in reality. So wen u see a friend out there, would you need to emphatically stress-out every of your words? I doubt it. Quite often than none, most of us would probably use certain words intentionally, out of being in a hurry, or following our intellisense (keyboard suggestions). So don't always have the impression that while some of us make certain "grammatical blunders", semantic or syntactic errors, that we are definitely not good enough, those highlighted factors can contribute to them. |
