From 42 goals, it dropped to 18 league goals the following season before he finally joined Madrid shows that he lacked motivation. His rivalry with Messi has however not diminished for the past 6 years or so, and if he scores 42 goals this season, it would be regarded as a failure.

I still insist that Messi made Ronaldo a better player; not Fergie.
Both Fergie n Messi had a hand in his progress as a Selfish scorer...

End of story tongue grin

Does it mean their work at developing players is one off or just a fluke? Or does it mean player development has more to do with the player than the coach?

I leave you with the rest tongue
Does it mean a teacher can not teach a bright student?

Guardiola therefore told Barca physio Juanjo Brau to watch Messi day and night. Brau shadowed Leo and the two have become inseparable, even sometimes seeing each other on their days off and travelling together when Messi plays for Argentina. In a new book, 'The Messi Mystery', authors Sebastian Fest and Alex Juillard explain his routine: "Before each training session, Leo trains with Brau, one on one, for 45 minutes and after each one he has another half-hour session.

Are you saying Messi's talent did this? The Coach Made plans to make Messi better and Messi trained and obeyed the instructions.

Of course Pep made Messi a better player. Why would anyone even argue this? Will you say Dr Dre did not make Eminem because Truth Hurts or The Firm didn't blow under him
A round of applause.

You are a mind reader. It is the same argument I just had the other day. Mikel was a Man utd fan, trained at Old Trafford and Ferguson saw his brilliance.

The midfield was free for him and with Ferguson's guidance, we would have had another Scholes. I am still hunting for Nigeria vs Argentina 2005 finals. Mikel was pure class.

He did not have someone to guide and nurture him. That is a big part of great players.

Henry flopped at Juventus. Under Arsene Wenger, he became one of the best of all time.

It takes more than talent.
I gbadun your analysis...

You guys are making it seem like there's one hidden ritual involved in whipping up world bests by managers.

All they do is note particular talents and point them in a direction. Everything else from there is dependent on the player's individual development.

If this is still so hard to comprehend then you guys should start questioning the schools that issued you certificates o
The same teacher that taught Wole Soyinka probably taught another person who can't count 1 to 10 till today

Because of that second person you would say his work on Soyinka doesn't count?

Cus d a mato who groomed tyson probably tried to groom other boxers who can't beat nihilist when drunk

Messi scored a goal yesterday. He missed a goal today means he wasn't responsible for the initial one scored na just luck

Ronaldo lima dribbled 5 players vs Compostela and scored

Ronaldo lima vs Strasburg couldn't go past Godwin Okpara for 90 mins

That must mean the first goal was going to score anyway whether ronaldo touched it or not since he couldn't do the same vs Strasburg

What about Nani. He was to be another Ronaldo in the making. Did Fergie's golden touch become impotent on him?

Anderson too? The much touted Ronaldinho replacement
Two students taken from the same village taught by the same teacher

One scores 90 one scores 50.

Can we also say the teacher didn't do anything to the life of the one who excels since the other failed

Firstly, because Mikel didn't live up to how you have built him up in your head isn't mikel's fault it yours, I suppose it is SAF man utd where many african players pick pine from that backside and cheer on their oyinbo mates is where Mikel will become the saviour of nigerian football.
Also I laugh at henry flopping at juve after 15 games when the arsenal move was a reunion between Wenger and henry.

I can see that thegoodjoe nateevs and eruditor are setting the record straight already

Some people think a coach doesnt influence your play and what you achieve? I can bet that Mikel would have been a better player under a different coach
Whether Mikel isn't living up to his potential is left to mikel I suppose in moment of doubt he'll look at his trophy cabinet and comot such notion from his head.
Brazillian anderson was arguably a bigger star that Mikel in youth football and what happened when he joined us ? Is he a better player than Mikel now ?
Some players owe their sucess to Pep. Busquets, thiago and Pedro comes to mind, Messi isn't one of them

Please, I know about Henry and Arsene Wenger at Monaco. I also know about Henry under Jean Tigana in the squad that had Trezeguet and Ikpeba.

Henry flopped at Juventus.

As for Mikel, he was amazing as a youngster. Ferguson had interest in Mikel and flew to Norway to convince Mikel to join Man Utd. The space was there in midfield. The place Carrick took.

So all those African talk does not hold here because Ferguson valued Mikel.

Playing 15 games in a new club, and country is a sufficient enough sample size to determine if a player na bust ?
Of course they matter because you're saying if Mikel was a man utd player is career would be different I just told you a very plausible career trajectory for our guy.

Mikel Obi and Anderson played two different styles. There is no way you can use Anderson's career to make it the same trajectory as Mikel.

Remember, Anderson suffered Multiple injuries that slowed his progress.

Two attacking midfielders that where told to play deeper by their managers ?
Why should I not make the comparison again ?

Anderson played on the left, Similar to Ronaldinho. He said he could also play as a left back when he joined Man Utd.

Mikel was a pass master who controlled the game with his instincts and vision. They play different styles.

Did Wenger make Henry the player he is? Or was he destined for greatness regardless
Over the years many players have either been discovered or 'formed' by managers. For example, Jose brought the best out of Drogba, he also was responsible in forming Mikel into the DM he is today.

Wenger formed Henry into the prolific goal scorer he was. Take a look at Ramsey, even his 'over passing' is a Wenger trait.

But for Messi, I wouldn't attribute his formation to any manager. Messi has greatness in his DNA. Give Messi to Amodu Shuaibu and he will still be world best.
You must also realised that Messi was already known to the football world before he made his first appearance for Barca.

before Pep Messi was deployed on the wings, Pep made him the false 9 and his output increased immediately

Before Pep the highest goals in a season for Messi was 17

Immediately Pep joined Messi scored 38. Thats more than double

The next season it went to 47, then 53 then 73 All under Pep

Its clear to a blind man that Pep became the goal scoring machine he was under Pep due to the tactical change that was made to favour him

Hazard/Memphis/Martial are currently deployed as winger, If a coach comes, makes them focal points, play them as false 9 and turn them into scoring 38, 43 54 and 73 within the next few season making him win multiple Ballon D or and undisputedly the best player of his generation would it be wrong to say that coach made Memphis/Martial/Hazard
Messi had already mesmerised the football world before Pep. Even if Onigbinde coaches Messi he would still be world best.

My point is that, Pep was lucky to have Messi not the other way around.

Its easy to know when he is less busy, that's when he starts tagging moniker to pictures or gif ,or he mentions any moniker he feels like disturbing.....

He had become obsessed with the fact an old Porto contact told him that his former club knew of his plans to drop Cesc Fabregas before last week's vital Champions League match at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea won the game, but Mourinho was convinced he had at least one player in his squad working against him and it was not the first time this season the 52-year-old felt information was being leaked, whether on purpose or by accident.
Everywhere Mourinho is, he must always accuse someone of leaking out info! In Madrid it was Casillas.
