GEJ was not up right with the removal then, hence the protests. See the reason below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, it wasn't APC or anybody fault that Jonathan subsidy removal backfired.

I could remember back in late 2011 NLC, TUC and other stakeholders were
holding meeting with FG on how to remove the subsidy.

They held series of meeting NLC, TUC, other stakeholders and FG which
ran into late December. Then the stakeholders were already cooperating
with FG on the removal and modality it will take.

And more importantly the stakeholders with FG have concluded then
to educate Nigerians the benefits of removing the subsidy.

The meeting was inconclusive in 2011, so the stakeholders and FG
agreed to continue the meeting by 2012.

Surprisingly the FG on Jan. 2 announced removal of subsidy without
reaching conclusion with the stakeholders.

This was how Jonathan administration shot himself in the foot,
hence the protest tagged "Occupy Nigeria".

In as much i support Buhari administration and subsidy removal, the FG
must talk with all the stakeholders on how and modality the removal
must take.

Also they must educate Nigerians the benefits of subsidy removal.

Buhari government should not repeat or replay Jonathan administration
mistakes.
If GEJ govt did not educate Nigerian on the removal of subsidy, how come It was finally left on #87/Litre? Secondly, what orientation has this present govt given to Nigerians before planning the removing of fuel subsidy come this January 2016? Lastly, is there any difference between the reasons GEJ gave and the one IBE KACHIKWU is given?

NLC has never stood for the masses and this is not the time to pretend.

A consumer wants products to be available at the most reasonable and affordable price.

85 per liter without additional burden of subsidy bills on the part of govt sounds like a news Nlc should be happy about with sound analysis not this usual bravado about kicking against all govt policies without thinking.

Let's poll this and see if Nlc is not on his own in this issue.
To think that they are already kicking against it without seeing the policy thrust from govt documentation speaks volumes of the mindset of the leadership of the Nlc.
why put the price at N85 naira when you are removing subsidy. how did they arrive at N85? Price should be determined by market forces when subsidy is removed. As long as the govt still keeps fixing price then there are not sincere.

1. It was left @ N87 per litre because of the drop in price of crude oil in the international market.

2. If you take a second look at the end of my response, you will see where i noted that PMB
should not repeat GEJ mistake.

3. Unfortunately, GEJ reasons and benefits of subsidy removal began to aired after the removal of
the subsidy which of course was too late to appeal to Nigerians. A case of putting a cart before the horse.

Note: The PMB administration is about to be making the mistake 2 and 3, although they have not
officially announce the the removal. The PMB can still defend itself for now.

But i expect Buhari administration by now should be talking with stakeholders and educating
Nigerians on what is subsidy and benefits of its removal using all our indigenous languages.

They can't educate Nigerians on what subsidy is because they do not know its meanings.

It is now you know right? When GEJ made attempt to remove it in 2012, did you not take to the street to protest? When you were being led by the likes of president,El - rufai, Tunde Bakare and others to protest against fuel subsidy removal, didn't you realise the importance of the removal then? Or were you blindfolded by sentiment and hatred towards the then government? Some Nigerians can be funny and wicked atimes! Some of those people that called for the head of GEJ for planning to remove fuel subsidy are the same people saying fuel subsidy should be removed. This is serious!
Oga stop yarning dust... The protest was because the resulting pump prices of pms after subsidy removal was just too high. Gej wanted to double the price buh Pmb is reducing it. So wat exactly do u want or u dey follow dem thief inside the subsidy money nii? Even the sure-p project sef, what did Gej achieve with it.. Nothing so what exatly are u saying. Dont even dare compare what that dummy of a president did to what this administration is doin now. Forget sentiments, if PMB bleeps up watch and see how we will all criticized and castigate him. No one has any special feelings for anyone abeg. All we want is PROGRESS

NLC got it twisted. Removal of subsidy is not a deliberate attempt by the Govt to make Nigerians suffer. Nigeria is paying too much for subsidy. We can use the money for other infrastructural projects ie Transport. Removal of subsidy is for the benefit of Nigerians pls. Sometimes I think the leadership of NLC aren't transparent and their call for strikes are not born out of genuine intention for the masses but rather of service for some cabals.
lai mohammed and PMB and APC once faulted GEJ for trying to remove subsidy ,but why are they now planning to remove it,the same thing they cries for ,is the same thing they are planning to do, i dont trust the govt anymore, they are all bunch of liers

Chai! Isn't this what GEJ tried to do? Like word for word?

Na wa for naija sha, we only agree that 2 + 2 equals 4, when it is "our person" that said it.

Soo disgusting undecided

Won't it have been even better to remove subsidy when oil prices were highhuh That way, all those huge savings could have been used to fast tract our development, i.e, more locomotives, high speed trains, roads, security, e.t.c

What really is the benefit of removing subsidy now and having petrol go from 87 naira to the proposed 85 naira? Abi, is it 2 naira per litre savings that the government will use to fund more infrastructurehuh

What also happens if oil price rises again to around 80 dollars per barrel? Would cheap Nigerians, who like everything free, be able to pay a 130-160 naira official pump price?

Anywho, it is what it is, better late than never!

How do u compare the decisions of a drunk(GEJ) and the leadership of a sane man(PMB): where the sure-P funds dey? Where the buses wey dem share for state to ease transport fare? abeg make them remove the subsidy jare.
Re: NLC: We'll Hold Buhari To His Promise Not To Remove Fuel Subsidy by nikenry(f): 6:48am On Dec 28, 2015
In 2012, most Nigerians did not fully comprend d complexity of subsidy. Fast forward to 2015, I think we now fully comprehend d concept(many thanks to Barcanista).
Secondly, we all know dt Jonathan was not able to remove the subsidy, but reduced it by 32 naira per liter of fuel. This he claimed to to reinvest in SURE- P project, but little results. Most of the funds was squandered.
To balance the argument, PMB also came to power with false campaign promises, because I believe he didn't know the reality on ground. I think PMB should apologise to all Nigerians for changing his campaign promises and go ahead with the subsidy removal. Nigerians should never be taken for granted.
Subsidy removal is d best way to go!
My country shall be great!
