The same reason why Nigeria has been moving backward since inception: Corruption, evil triumphing over good, and bad media. |

I'm glad someone brought this up. I've been wondering if anyone on Nairaland even thought deeply at the state of not just Africa, but EVERY Black Country in the world. First I'd like to start off with the small yet very familiar analogy of the Iceland scenario. White people used to joke around with this but in reality it’s a painful truth. It goes something like this: Example 1. Imagine that everyone from Iceland and everyone on the Island of Haiti traded places. Haiti would be turned into a tropical paradise within a decade, while the blacks in Iceland would freeze to death. It seemed like a sad joke at the time, but looking at South Africa, I am beginning to feel more hopelessness at the state of the "black" mindset and situation. Example 2. If in North America there was some kind of imaginary hypothetical rapture where all the people in the country disappeared, EVERYONE but blacks. Mexicans, Whites, Asians, Indians, etc, all, gone, just black Americans and African Americans left. Power, water, sanitation, basic services such as garbage collection, let alone taxation and the maintenance military equipment. Sad joke? I thought it was until the power outages in South Africa that began last summer. The country is HAVING POWER OUTAGES!!!!! It’s starting. The sad decline towards it becoming another sub Saharan African country. If South Africa turns into another pitch black at night African country I believe we may have no-one to vouch for us next time someone decides to invade our homelands. 1 Like |

gadogado: I have noticed in the media and other readings that south africa is retrogressing fast.the crime rate is sky rocketing, the health crises is bad and worsening (HIV) and now there is endemic corruption from the leadership all the way down. In short, the country is going down the drain,in the last 10 years 1/5th of the white population has left the country seeking greener pastures in new zealand, australia, canada and europe and even dubai. The country's economic situation is worsening. Why is this? there are now power cuts and water shortages in most parts of SA LOAD OF ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. SOUTH AFRICA HAS PROGRESSED RAPIDLY SINCE THE END OF APARTHEID. EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE MAJORITY HAS EXPANDED, INCOME PER CAPITA AS WELL AS GDP IS FAR HIGHER, AND THERE ARE FAR MORE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO THE MAJORITY THAN EXISTED UNDER APARTHEID. ANYONE TELLING YOU OTHERWISE IS EITHER DELUDED OR A STINKING RACIST. UNDER APARTHEID THE BLACK MAJORITY WERE FORCED TO LIVE IN GHETTOS LIKE SOWETO. TODAY, BLACKS LIVE EVERYWHERE ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND ARE ABLE TO START ALL SORTS OF BUSINESSES, MOST OF WHICH ARE THRIVING. THE BLACK MIDDLE CLASS - NON-EXISTENT UNDER APARTHEID - IS NOW WELL ESTABLISHED AND GROWING. THAT ALONE SHOULD TELL ANYONE WITH A BRAIN THAT THINGS HAVE DRASTICALLY IMPROVED FOR THE BETTER IN SOUTH AFRICA, UNDER BLACK LEADERSHIP. |

sinako: which african country ever goes forward, why do you expect anything different from South Africa. What do you have in that brain of yours apart from rubbish fed you by the BBC? ZIMBABWE today is MILES BETTER than it was before Mugabe decided to end the minority white ownership of all national resources. TODAY the average Zimbabwean owns a stake in his country and is no longer a peasant on his ancestral land. Meanwhile the racist whites who fled during the land redistribution programme are now making their way back to a renewed, more equitable Zimbabwe. Thankfully, the Zimbabwe govt is giving them a tough time as per visa. And long may that continue. Thankfully, Zimbabweans do not think and act like slaves the way you do. |

strangleyo: I'm glad someone brought this up. I've been wondering if anyone on Nairaland even thought deeply at the state of not just Africa, but EVERY Black Country in the world. You're talking 1000% garbage while displaying a pathetic and shameful inferiority complex. Here's a few lessons to cure your mental illness. 1) Under apartheid, the townships for the most part HAD NO ELECTRICITY. As in there weren't connected to the national grid. Same applied to the numerous rural bantustans into which the black majority were herded. This is what the whites you worship will never tell you. In fact today power distribution has become democratised in South Africa, which is WHAT has led to power rationing. So which is better? Constant power for the 5% white minority under apartheid and near zero power for the black majority, OR 85% power availability for EVERYONE as obtains today? Of course SA is a developing country, so 24/7 power for all is an ideal being worked towards, not something that ought to be there, because it NEVER WAS there. SEE, F0LKS LIKE YOU NEED TO USE YOUR BRAINS, RESEARCH THINGS, AND GET RID OF YOUR stup.id and ignorant ''BLACK IS BAD, WHITE IS GOOD'' COMPLEX. 2)As for Haiti, THAT COUNTRY would be a paradise on earth today if she did not have to pay 80% of her annual national earnings to FRANCE since independence in the 1800s right up till the 1960s -or risk ''annihilation'' by the allies- as payback for denying France her 'property' owing to her declaration of independence from the latter. Not to mention the numerous US military interventions to remove populist, elected leaders like Aristide, and impose pro-US dictators on that land. ARISTIDE BANNED THE IMPORTATION OF US RICE, saying that Haiti, once a net exporter of rice and other staples, HAD NO BUSINESS IMPORTING US RICE, and impoverishing her own farmers. Shortly thereafter he was removed in a coup led by US marines. (CNN never told you all this in their 'heart wrenching' reports on Haiti did they?) This from the UK's Guardian Newspaper: America's subversion of Haiti's democracy continues Even though former President Aristide has eschewed politics since his return from exile, the US is still threatening him. When the "international community" blames Haiti for its political troubles, the underlying concept is usually that Haitians are not ready for democracy. But it is Washington that is not ready for democracy in Haiti. Haitians have been ready for democracy for many decades. They were ready when they got massacred at polling stations, trying to vote in 1987, after the fall of the murderous Duvalier dictatorship. They were ready again in 1990, when they voted by a two-thirds majority for the leftist Catholic priest Jean-Bertrand Aristide, only to see him overthrown seven months later in a military coup. The coup was later found to have been organized by people paid by the United States Central Intelligence Agency. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/mar/13/america-subversion-haiti-democracy SEE, IF THE USA AND FRANCE DID THE SAME THING TO WHITE ICELANDERS, THEY WOULD SUFFER AS WELL, SO IT'S NOT A SKIN COLOUR THING, MUCH AS THEY HAVE DECEIVED YOU INTO THINKING. |

@@@@@ some will say the problem with this Nigeria is corruption but me say thats a lie, biggest lie the wahala with some people like the poster is they lack some element of knowing who they are? they seemed to hate themselves but they dnt know that; they beleieve lifes is about how much money u could loot but they are wrong; their likes go round to impregant a blackwoman and run to settle with an oyibo without knowing how much he hate himself they loot and loot and loot, send their kids to the best schools abroad, fly private jet, live in a big house, even go for health check abroad just for touching a mosquito, afraid to die hahha they come back to naija not ashame to operate their power generator, drive on pot holes, see so much people suffering and still pretend that all is fine when they are really old to go to hell then they come out to tell us who should be the leader, who shouldnt and if money is power then they shouldnt really be concern about presidency, they should be creating jobs in nigeria and keeping aways people like chinese , india ... therefore they lack serious element of patriotism some at this point in time one shouldnt be told how corrupt countries like Greece,Italy etc are these countries are ran down by ur white oyibo and more to follow |

Rossikk: And when will you lot stop blaming the west for all your troubles and take your destiny in your own hands? clueless set of people. If they had to give 80% of their income to France before 1960, what have they done with themselves since then? How about your own country? What have the bastards done with the country for 53 years, even with self rule and all our resources? And what rubbish are you spewing concerning South Africa? With a generating capacity of about 50,000 MW and a population less than 1/3 of Nigeria's, do they have any business having power outages? What about crime rate, unemployment, corruption in government? Are all those the white man's fault too? I hope for the sake of the black race that they can pull themselves together and stop the deterioration before things get out of hand. The black man has always seemed incapable of selflessness. No wonder we have been unable to advance a single scientific contribution because in those early days of science people died researching what they didn't know. In Africa though, what we couldn't understand, we worshipped. As I have always said, Nigeria is the hope for the black race, and until our country becomes modernized and a 1st world country, the black man shall continually be viewed as incapable of self governance. At this day and age we're still struggling with high infant mortality rate, mothers dying at child birth, lack of portable water and electricity. BASICS! How sad, while you government apologists continue your propaganda. |
Re: Why Is South Africa Moving Backward? by Nobody: 1:04am On Jun 08, 2013 |
The power outages are a thing of the past, most of the electricity is consumed by metal smelters and SA having the cheapest electricity in the world there is alot of end user abuse during winter. By 2020 South Africa will have double the capacity of electricity it currently has. Is the current government less corrupt than the apartheid government, Italy and many white countries are rank lower than SA in the corruption index and most of the corruption is in the private sector. Looking at the statistics, crime is decreasing each year, SA is winning the war on crime. Unemployment has more do to with an unskilled population which can be blamed on the education policy of the apartheid government, alot of jobs have been created in the private sector but people lack the skills. Looking at the safety, transparency, health, education and infrastructure SA isn't going backwards. SA service delivery 'no failure': SAIRR/South African Institute for Race Relations 4 21 September 2012 President Jacob Zuma is quite correct to defend the success of the government's service delivery efforts, according to the South African Institute of Race Relations. Addressing a South African Local Government Association conference in Johannesburg recently, Zuma said that "no country could have produced the delivery we produced in the last 18 years". The institute's deputy CEO, Frans Cronje, said in a statement last week that a "myth has taken hold in South Africa that service delivery was a failure. However, research we have published over the past several years suggests that this is not the case." Data published by the institute - an independent think-tank producing research, policy critiques and risk analysis on South Africa - shows that between 1996 and 2010: The number of South African households living in formal houses increased from 5.8-million to 11- million or by 89.9%. Over the same period the proportion of all households living in a formal house increased from 64% to 76%. The number of South African households with access to electricity increased from 5.2- million to 11.9-million or by 127.9%, while the proportion of all households with access to electricity increased from 58% to 83%. The number of South African households with access to piped water increased from 7.2-million to 12.7-million or by 76.6%. The proportion with access to piped water increased from 80% to 89%. "Increases of a similar magnitude are true for all 15 service delivery indicators tracked by the institute," Cronje said. "These improvements are corroborated by Living Standard Measure [LSM] improvements, which show equally dramatic improvements in the number and proportion of people in higher living standard brackets. "Together with increased access to social welfare, which now reaches over 15-million people, service delivery successes are responsible for the fact that the proportion of South Africans living on less than US $2/day has declined from 12% in 1994, and a peak of 17% in 2002, to just 5% today." Regarding service delivery protests, Cronje said that there was "no contradiction between the successes we identify and the protests that are now commonplace around the country. "These protests are not a function of the failure of delivery but rather of its success, in that this success has raised expectations that cannot be met because of shortcomings in the school system and the labour market." Cronje said that while the ruling African National Congress (ANC) was not perfect, and while it could be debated whether state-led delivery was the best development model for a country to follow, "the data we have published is unambiguous that the ANC and the government it leads deserves considerably more credit for improving the living standards of poor and black South Africans than it has received." gadogado:Nasty, ignorant dunce. South Africa's economy has quadrupled in size since the start of black rule, showing competent leadership, and the lives of countless millions of blacks have been improved. Also, 6 of the world's 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa, with the continent's middle class the fastest expanding on earth. This puts a lie to your racist, anti-black nonsense. If you cannot contribute to the African renaissance, at least do us all a favour and shut your nasty trap. 2 Likes 1 Share |
