The Lagos State Government says the demolition of Owonifari Market in the Oshodi area and the relocation of traders to Isopakodowo Market in Bolade-Oshodi are in the interest of the public. At a press briefing addressed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde; Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Wasiu Anifowoshe; Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare; and Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, the government observed that the uproar generated by the demolition was unnecessary. Ayorinde said the government provided an alternative place which had over 600 shops and space that could house 400 traders, and had also agreed to give out the shops for N5,000. “The traders were adequately notified before the exercise took place as required by law. The government also had a series of meeting with the leadership of the market before the demolition,” he added. The commissioner explained that the issue of the market had been on for 10 years, adding although a large number of the traders relocated to the new market, some refused to move. Ayorinde said, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode invited the leadership of the market to the Executive Chambers on December 16, 2015, where he reiterated his plans for Oshodi and the need to move the traders to move to Isopakodowo Market. “On Monday, December 21, 2015, it was eventually agreed that the traders would pay N5,000 for a shop at Isopakodowo Market. There is nowhere in Lagos where you will see a N5,000 shop, let alone in central Oshodi, but the governor agreed with them. We, thereafter, formally served them notices to quit through the office of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.” He said, “Government will not be blackmailed because we had done everything humanly possible for the traders to relocate. “The government wants to ensure that the area conforms to the type of image that we want for Lagos, which is to beautify the place, construct a world-class bus terminal, and reduce the gridlock and criminalities associated with that area.” The Commissioner for the Environment, Adejare, said the traders claiming that their goods were destroyed were mischievous. He added that the materials that were demolished with the market were the wastes left behind by those who had relocated to the new place. source:www.punchng.com/oshodi-market-demolition-for-public-security-says-lasg/

ify2016: Adejare added that the governor had been so magnanimous to have allowed the shop owners acquire new shops in Isopakodowo market at N5,000 in a place like Oshodi. Abeg which other palliative una want again? ? If the traders complaining of victimization are dissatisfied with this Lagos state govt's offer of a 5k shop palliative at a better location, then they should sharply relocate to the SE. End of Discussion. |

ify2016:Thank you my sister and that offer of shop for rent should equally be rejected. Let yorubas go and rent their shop. I am not optimistic about the entity called Nigeria Anything can happen, we have a mad man as pilot. Another wrong move or miscalculation and absolutely anything can happen. The traders should not rent or buy any shop from Ambode. They must not reward his premeditated action. |

YoruBanger:What is this adekodere is saying . A friend of mine paid 15k pay month in the same Oshodi market even when it was just a tiny space that he was allowed to sale. No place in Oshodi pays 5k except road side hawkers . Forget about false media propaganda. I stayed in Oshodi for 4years and information am giving you is based on fact. If every tribe should do same way your fish brain tells you, do you think it will augur well with that your egocentric baseless postulation especially your people that occupies SE offices. |

ify2016:Yinmu. I'll rather believe the Commissioner for Environment who went on record to say what I quoted, than some lying faceless internet iPod tout. Go and refute his assertions if you're sure of yourself and call a press conference to that effect. Or better still pack your load and relocate to the SE if you're not happy. Kapish! No amount of blackmail from you perpetual whiners will deter the Lagos state govt from doing her job. Y'all just can't be pleased no matter the 'palliatives' una go still claim victimization so make una buzz off abeg. ![]() |
