The NNPC head has most recently made remarks hinting of possible commercial oil being found in the chad basin in northern Nigeria.

The Chad Basin 3D Prospect, also known as JV 109 is a Joint Venture Seismic operation between Integrated Data Service Limited (IDSL), a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Bureau of Geophysical Prospecting (BGP), a subsidiary of Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).


From my own little research, it is plausible that hydrocarbon might be found in Yobe or Borno state. Chad is landlocked, but they discovered significant reserves in this basin and checking the lake chad history, it favours deposition of hydrocarbon in these two states. Finding the (commercial) reservoirs is the challenge.

What do you think might be the implications if oil is found here?

Op have you been at the north or have someone there working in any FG establishment especially the power generating centres? Ask you will understand that the issue of resource control is practiced there than in the South.

Once the North finds Oil, they will leave Nigeria.

Do you think the North will bother with the south ?
Its the Oil that is holding Nigeria together.
The Oil of the South-South which is controlled by the North.
And they expect us to be happy

If the North discovers oil,they will tell us that the oil in the North is 3X bigger than that of the south and people from the waste will swallow and digest it because they strive on lies

I don't think "Nigeria" will let the north go in that a scenario

Nigeria is a conquered territory under northern control. Finding oil and gas in the north will simply put them in a more advantageous position to oppress others. Wishful thinking to imagine northerners will just give up Nigeria.

What's going to happen is that we're going to raise an army of militants so that anytime a southerner buys peanuts, we shall violently yell "our oyel!"
