Hi! peeps, I have heard this in many occasions that the FG will introduce the policy of tax collection from the religious bodies; Churches and Mosques. Many people speak in contrally to this may be because of their perception towards churches and their love for God and Godly things. Its all good as well. I really support the fact that these groups should be paying taxes with these reasons of mine. Firstly, when Jesus was asked about taxing and tax related issues in the book of luke 20:25, he pinpointed it that you should give to Caesar, the Caesar's and to God, the God's. Thus; supported tax paying. In the book of Matt 17:27, He also made it clear when He asked his disciple to get to the River and get the fish through which they got the coin they paid tax with. I do not really know what is going on with our religious leaders this time around. Thy would only be emphasising on Mal 3:10. All about tithes and offering paying as a key sure way to success. Pls take note, Mal 3:10, (A)part of it says " Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple". Mark the clause, "so there will be enough food in my Temple". This was when the Priests, thus; the men of God were doing nothing but the work of God unlike now that most of them are managers in multi national companies and others living a luxurious life styles at the detriments of the tithes and offerings paid by the poor members. It is worthy of note that these are self righteousness which takes one to no where if not holiness through which any eye shall see the lord. I mean tithe and offering paying. Our Churches and Mosques are no longer a spiritual organisation as it is meant to be, this is why Heb 10:25 advised that we should not be leaving the gathering of the brethren. Because, when brethren gather, faith should be built, but these days, when brethren gather, faith dwindles. I am sorry to say it that I do not even go to Church these days, but I am still a fervent Christian that maintains my good relationship with God. Churches and Mosques are no longer spiritual arena but a social organizations these days. It is seen as a normal trend that on Sundays, one should go to church and come back afterwards. Either to flaunt phones, Tablets, clothes, cars and many more or to worship God. I have gone through some churches'mission. It says; "heaven at last". While others says; " to have 1billion adult membes, the other, "at least, one in every family members should be their member". In fact, I am really looking forward to seeing the day Churches and Mosques and other religious group will start paying tax. Thanks for reading. |

First, people constitute Churches and Mosques. Usually, these people pay taxes. Now do religious leaders pay taxes? If they don't, then I think they should. Concerning revenues generated in religious organizations, once the portions that should go to the preachers, the poor and indigent is deducted and as long as these people pay their taxes, either directly or indirectly, I don't see why the balance should be taxed; especially because, these funds are used for: projects which create employment for the people executing them, CSR and so on. So, should religious leaders pay taxes? I believe, yes! Every citizen should. Should religious organizations pay import duties and all? Yes, because, they pay utility bills too! Should they be given any waiver in a secular government like Nigeria? Yes, but to the extent to which other businesses that engage in CSR are given. Having said the above, Op, please go back to church. |

U misinterpret the bible when u quote where Jesus ask Peter fetch a fish in the belly is a coin which he used to Pay for Jesus tax and his. 1st of all, u should understand the meaning of non profit organisation . Church is a non profit making organisation and as such cannot be taxed. But the respective individuals such Bishops, Reverends, Pastors, Evangelists, church members etc must pay their tax. Jesus paid his. To the op, u are not a good christian when u dont attend church. It was the custom of our Lord Jesus Christ to go to church. So, emulate him by going to church. Thank u Kenmatt: |
