Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Charles Soludo has stated that the 2016 budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari was almost the same as the one presented by his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

According to Soludo, the present budget was a carbon copy of the one by Jonathan’s government, adding that defeating old bad ideas could be better that initiating new ones.

He said this while speaking at the 13th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja on Thursday.

“The present budget is more of the same to the previous ones. Mr. Vice President [Prof. Yemi Osinbajo], If you scale your budget on the scale of GDP, it is almost the same with the previous government.

“It has a historic 37% deficit as we never had it before. The truth is that you are borrowing 37% with only 30 per cent on capital project,” Prof. Soludo stressed.

Why these kids like to spread falsehood. Soludo did not say anything of such. I am 100% certain of that. Is this not the same way they claimed Itsey Sagay said something that turned out he didn't say such. So if Soludo said such thing, it is through these fictitious blog sites and facebook he would say such thing.

These kids need to give up spreading lies and attaching names of prominent Nigerians to it.

Give it up, kids.

So Mr Blogger, I guess Soludo granted you an exclusive interview in which he said such things.
Linda Ikeji and her ilk, Guardian, Vanguard, Sun, Punch newspapers, all must be very very jealous of you.

And if Soludo actually said Jonathan's budget was copied, why didn't he mention the particular budget?
Jonathan prepared at least 4 budgets, so why didn't Soludo exclusively tell you the one that Buhari copied.

I doubt the veracity of the claims but there's a difference between budgeting and implementing budget. Don't know if this is true but in principle I have no major qualms with it. Person A can budget fifty naira for business, chop forty and inefficiently spend the remaining ten, does not mean budgeting fifty naira for business is in principle bad because of the history of person A.

Nigerian politics is still rudimentary and not advanced to the stage of budget based on any deep rooted philosophy beyond "stop chopping the money and actually spend it on development". We all know we need good roads, and to invest in education, and to provide the right conditions for business - past administrations have just refused to stop eating the money budgeted for these things.
