The Peoples Democratic Party’s Governors Forum has criticized yesterday’s attempt by a former political adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, to assume office as the party’s acting national chairman.

Rising from a meeting in Abuja same day the incident happened, the governors issued a communiqué where it described the invasion of the party’s headquarters by Gulak as “regrettable and condemnable”.

The position of the governors, which was contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting, is that while they acknowledge the judgment by a court in Abuja which ordered the current acting chairman, Uche Secondus, to vacate office for any other person from the North-East zone to step in, “our party’s constitution has enough provisions for that and the necessary process has been put in motion.”The office of the national chairman of the PDP became vacant after former chairman, Ahmadu Mu’azu, resigned his position last May following the defeat the party suffered at the presidential election. One of his deputies, Secondus, then took over in acting capacity.

Justice Yusuf Baba of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory had on December 16 directed Secondus to vacate office and revert to his position as deputy national chairman of the party.

The court also said the acting chairman should handover the leadership of the party to either Mr. Gulak, who was the plaintiff to the suit, or any other qualified person from the north eastern part of the country.

The Governors are the biggest stake holders after the president and the vice. They are wat makes the party and are the biggest financiers. Why is gulak so desperate for the position. The party has said due process will be followed to elect one from the north east. That's how their brother. Muazu deceived us and now he has gone.
