Ibime:Over reliance on numbers na en go kill you. Zidane and Xavi have far less goals + assists totals than Lampard, Giggs, or Gerrard Oya which numbers dey lie for here? |

Dadehmola:What line is there to tow about clear numbers? Does Modric break defence line 50 times a season with first time mid-long range pass and strikers only score 5 of them? GTFOH. If I show you KDB, Fab4 or Lampard assist videos you will see assist after assist of when they get the ball and spring mid-long range pass instantly without dribbling, shimmying or even controlling the ball and bang, its a goal. They see the picture before they receive the ball. Thats the key difference. If I show you Sunday Olisehs 5 assists for SE in Tunisia 1994, you would understand the discussion we are having here. |

Nihilist:Zidane and Xavi dont have 4 assists a season like Modric. Strip away freekicks and corners, Zidane, Xavi, Lampard, Gerrard, Fab4, Debruyne etc all assist roughly 10 goals a season from quick through passes that break defence line. For Modric that number is 3. |

Checkout the pass that led to Agueros penalty for the 1st goal in this game. I was in the stadium when this happened. Even before the ball dropped to Lampard I turned to my mate and told him Aguero would be through on goal here if this gets to Lampard. This is what Im talking about. Vision to map the pitch before the ball even reaches you. If Modric received this ball, he would control it and the chance will be lost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btu4tTC-sow |

Ibime: The Madrid press was circling. Speculation on Ancelotti's future was rife. Supporters' groups were ready to revolt. The Bernabeu was tense, uncompromising—especially so.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2511732-why-luka-modric-is-absolutely-vital-to-real-madrids-midfield-fluency Most notable is his passing, with the 878 Modric has completed in the opposition half of the pitch in La Liga easily the highest of any Real player (Di Maria is next with 650).http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26290691 His involvement was classic Modric –the assist to the assist. There is an unselfishness to his game that defies statistical analysis. Modric is more than the numbers – both a visceral joy to watch and the perfect partner to those around him. As Sevilla star and international team-mate Ivan Rakitic puts it: “Modric is a great player who is different from the rest and thinks before everybody else.”http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11946/9288169/why-real-madrid-midfielder-luka-modric-is-a-key-man-for-the-spanish-side-as-they-go-in-search-of-la-decima Articles a bit old...but even the URL's give clues on Modric's importance to Madrid |

I could also post Fab4 and Pirlo. 10 times a season, predictable shyt. They get the ball deep and in one touch the striker is through on goal to score. Fab4 will do this 2 or 3 times a game. Its either Gareth Bale, Ronaldo and all Tottenham forwards cant finish, or simply put Modric does not have the same 1st time vision. |

| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Nihilist: 3:12pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
The qualities that come together to make the above pass happen each deserve mention–Modric’s first touch keeps the ball under control so that he can use his body to hold off the man just behind him. He then dribbles into exactly the right area of space to give him room to make the pass so that the onrushing defender can’t break the pass up before it gets to the Madrid striker. Once Modric has the ball in the right position, he then has to weight the ball correctly and place it in an area where the striker can pick it up and run with it–and this is about a 35 yard pass that he is hitting on the run with a defender bearing down on him.http://theinsidechannel.com/modric-real-madrid/ |

Nihilist:Nobody is arguing importance or midfield dominance. We are talking 1st time vision with no dulling. Dembele is uber important to Spurs and can match all the regular passing stats but cannot match the vision to put niggas clear on goal with regularity. Demvele like Modric is more focused on taking a neat touch first by which time niggas like Lampard have already released the striker. |

| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Ibime(m): 3:36pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
Nihilist:I dont deal in circumstantial evidence. Tell me how many assists Modric makes a season from these. Madrid and Spurs strikers must be wastemen. Sunday Oliseh made 5 first time balls in Tunisia 94 for strikers to score. This is the kind of indisputable fact I want to see, not dem say dem say. He proved his first time vision and sense of urgency in that tournament. Not telling me conjectures. |

Chelsea haven’t been as busy as in the transfer window as their fans would perhaps have liked given their league position but one player who seems certain to come in is Alexandre Pato. The former AC Milan striker is on the verge of completing a loan deal back to Europe from Corinthians and it is going to be interesting to see how interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink uses the Brazilian. Most have assumed that Pato is merely coming in as back-up to Diego Costa whose form has really started to pick up under Hiddink. However, during his time in Brazil Pato has shown great versatility about where he can play. Couple this with the fact that Willian is the only attacking player to have consistently performed well this season for Chelsea and Pato may actually be given far more game time than most seem to be envisaging. Here are three ways the Blues could line-up with Pato in their team. On the left-wing Probably the position actually best suited to Pato given where he’s been playing his best football during his time in Brazil. By playing on the left rather than up-front Pato is given more time and space to run into which is key. One of his biggest assets as a player is his pace which he retains even despite the injury problems he has had to endure. If he plays up front he won’t always get space to use that pace, particularly when teams drop deep to defend against Chelsea but on the left he will able to run at his full-back or cause more problems by cutting inside. He’s got quick feet and a fantastic shot, much like another left-winger who is struggled Chelsea at Chelsea at the moment, and if Eden Hazard’s form doesn’t pick up any time he could find his place under threat from Pato once the Brazilian reaches full match fitness. In the hole By the same degree if Chelsea want to create a bit more space for Pato to exploit they could play him in the No.10 role, just off Costa. The theory behind this is that Costa can push the central defenders back with his probing runs and that will leave space for Pato to run into. He’s a different No.10 to the current first choice, Cesc Fabregas, he’ll look to take his man on more and take a shot rather than thread a pass like the Spaniard. That’s not to say that he won’t pass, he has that ability, but he’ll definitely offer more of a goal threat. That actually might be what Chelsea need given how much they’ve struggled for goals this season. Yes, Costa is scoring more now but Fabregas, Oscar and Hazard have failed to contribute and it can all be down to Willian and Costa. Bringing Pato into the side will give Chelsea something different and given some of the goals he’s scored in Brazil Chelsea’s shooting from distance might start becoming more potent. On top of this by playing Pato in this position the formation can quickly be turned into a 4-4-2 if the situation requires and playing Costa with a partner could be just what he needs. Up-front Of course it’s unlikely that Pato will spend the next six months at Chelsea without playing up front at least once and this will arguably be the most interesting tactical decision for Hiddink. Pato won’t offer a fraction of Costa’s physical presence but he’s trickier than the Brazilian and would be a handful for defenders in a different way. One thing that might work in Pato’s advantage over Costa is that he’s more likely to make runs for the midfielders to find. This is something that Costa was doing with regularity last season but has been missing all too much this year. The sending off of Per Mertesacker in the Arsenal game and his assist against Crystal Palace for Oscar are just two example of that coming back but with his superior pace Pato is likely to make more runs. The worry of course would be whether or not he will be able to cope with the physical nature of the Premier League but Sergio Aguero seems to cope pretty well although he is a far superior player to Pato. Ibime:My friend, stop talking rubbish... You've been given articles from reputable sites and multiple video compilations. Even Fifa 16 sees Modric having a higher Vision stat than KDB. Yet you keep shouting numbers up and down...I hope you know Xavi has only 66 career assists in 17 seasons for Barcelona. He too must be as blind as a bat...at least according to you. |
