Pls, someone should remind me when will the tenure of this CBN governor end? GEJ brought him in to clear the way for their looting gang. Now that their is a change in the occupants of ASO rock, I can't wait to see the day we will have a real CBN governor - who can look the president in the face and make sound decisions. And I don't give a damn whether the new-to-be CBN governor is a northerner, southerner, easterner or westerner! |

MagicBishop:Its a pity that a "poorly enlightened" majority will collectively drag intelligent people into a disaster such as this with their choice of a President who couldn't provide a simple certificate for us all to see. All good jobs requests for excellent certificates here in Nigeria, but for the highest office in the land, we decide to make waivers for even a NEPA certificate holder. |

CBN Act, No. 7 of 2007 (Fed. Rep. of Nig. Official Gazette No.55 Vol. 94 of 1st June 2007) Section (S) 1 (3) “in order to facilitate the achievement of its mandate under this Act, and the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act, and in line with the objective of promoting stability and continuity in economic management, the Bank shall be an independent body, in the discharge of its functions.” S. 6(3) of the Act states that “the Board (of Directors of the CBN) shall be responsible for (a) the consideration and approval of annual budget of the Bank, (b) the approval of the audited and management accounts and the consideration of the management letter from the external auditors, (c) the formulation and implementation of the exchange rate policy, and (d) making recommendation to the President for the appointment of auditors in accordance with S. 49 of the Act, the provision of the necessary facilities and the rate of remuneration.” |

All these broke boys on Nairaland too are supporting devaluation because it's opposite of what Buhari wants. I feel sorry for some of you. You guys are ready for bread, water, transportation to double shey?? This is without any significant wage increase in sight. Let's now forget the essentials, that phone, that car, that TV you've been praying and saving for will now be totally out of reach. When that happens, let someone now tell you "we're doing this for foreign investors" tell me you won't slap that person. NIGERIANS it's time to get creative. Go learn to produce something, glass, clay, pencils, shoes whatever. There's opportunity in all of this. If anyone thinks there's a sexy way out of this mess without some creativity, sacrifice and hard work, then you're deceiving yourself. We've left the Era of free money. My sister's driver told me about how his brother that used to sell phone accessories in traffic in Lagos, stayed back in their town to learn how to do glass. People like that I hail. |

kaypling:As things stand nobody is having to forex directly from the CBN. The black marketers still have back door access to forex from CBN. The more we continue like this, the more southern businesses collapse and northerners get richer at our expense. All this is a calculated attempt by Buhari and his cabal to stall economic advantage of the north and corner it for the north. They have the power, civil service and military. Now they want the economy. If you think this is far fetched then recall the zeal at which Sanusi used in destroying southern banks like oceanic and intercontinental bank. Now unity bank ( a northern bank) is relocating it's corporate HQ in preparedness to take over the NSE. Dey there |

why is this so hard for some people to understand.... the naira will devalue itself according to the condition of the market..... buhari doesnt have to do anything... what this colonialits are suggesting is,buhari should print more nairas.....but the naira will become a fiat-money soon... america doesnt have this problem...the dollars is the world currency... if america print more money,it wouldnt hurt them, because you still have to purchase dollars to buy anything in the world... like this america can print themselves into oblivion... if the naira was the world-currency,the the situation would be different.... its only the western world that will win,if you devalue the naira...... this is a loose-loose business for nigeria.... |

MagicBishop:Can you guys please move past all these tribal inspired conspiracies. Are all southern banks dead? You just mentioned one northern bank relocating as evidence (by the way, one of my wife's good friend is a very influential executive in that bank and she's Yoruba, there's even rumors her family partly owns the bank). You say nobody has access to forex but BDCs have, can you please provide any proof? Please provide any. If he wanted the Northern cabal to take over why should they have banned CBN selling to them in the first place, only to turn around and give them out of the back door. The ban of sale of forex to BDCs was actually not one of those things Nigerians were clamoring for so why would they ban them, if the plan is to strengthen them. Please let's argue with fact and some intelligence. What you wrote is not different from you saying you're not doing well because they told you someone is doing you in your village. You're trying to put pieces that don't match together just to make someone look bad or explain your own failures. Then I really don't see what this has to do with devaluation, this whole thing is just confusing. |

Bloomberg can go to hell for all I care. Devaluation under Babangida, what position did it leave us? Worse than before we devalued and we have not looked back ever since. Buhari means well for ordinary Nigerians from what he has said but trust these capitalists, speculators and greedy business men, they can never be happy with that decision. A free market is good in an ideal society and not in a country like Nigeria where everything defies logic and common sense. |

1984 all over. When my parents had to queue for essenco. While I do not support devaluation, I think the govt should let the Naira devalue to N250 then defend that value to the death. Buhari means well on this (and I am anti buhari) but seizing reins at d CBN is not the way. During the campaigns Obasanjo said Buhari will be top notch on corruption but clueless about economics. Hate him or love him ebora owu was right |
