He will eventually calm down at some point ..then U can make him see that it is easily reversible. I guess he is schocked you took that decision without consulting him..which could be an expected reaction.

Meanwhile...avoiding him wont help u get him to understand why u did it. U need to find a way to turn on his "mumu buttons" once again and get him to understand with u. The malice is totally unnecessary.
