Unfortunately, all those critics, including Prof Utomi none has proffer any solution that is people oriented to counter what we have none. I keep wondering what would have happened if this bunch of squandereds had remain power. Perhaps they would devalued the naira to cover up.

Even when my last statement mentioned blaming oil price, you still chose to mention it?

Yes I still chose to mention it.

Falling oil prices will continue to be the central factor in our economic woes until you are able to show me one other way by which the previous government was able to fund whatever achievements you attribute to them.

Pretending that oil prices are not a factor is akin to calling a dog a bad name just so you can hang it!

My sentiments exactly.

None of these extremely brilliant critics of this governments economic policies have been able to proffer any other solution than the devaluation of our currency.

While this government has made efforts to explain it's opposition to the devaluation of the Naira, all most of these erudite scholars have done is argue in line with international best practice...that won't always work locally.

Perhaps the government needs to convene another economic summit and maybe from there, bespoke ideas will be generated to tackle the economic challenges.

by then naira go touch 4,000.

Very good analysis bar the fact that you forgot to mention how much crude was selling on the international market compared to now.

You can be as emotional and angry as you want to be with the perceived "non-performance" of the present government. But it is only fair to present a full analysis of how we got here.

My take is that if the travails that this nation has been through in the last 16 years did not kill her, then we will survive the next 4 years and if after that, we still do not see the merit in President Buhari ' s government, then we try the next person. We will keep trying till we get it right.

A new math teacher commences teaching by stating 1 + 1 = 4, do you need 4 yrs or even 6months to access him.

The foriegn exchange restrictions he introduced and his refusal to devalue to about 230 are wrecking the economy. The naira will hit 600 this year

Recall Ngozi Iweala to come and do what exactly?

The same Ngozi Iweala that could not adequately manage an economy where crude was selling for over 100 dollars? Under her watch, Nigeria 's economy was looted blind.

This country has been under her watch for the better part of the last 16 years and we are still where we are today. Says a lot about her capacity as a good economist.

There is no gainsaying the fact that Madam Ngozi Iweala is an immensely brilliant woman. But Nigeria ' s economic challenges defies any textbook or PowerPoint solutions. You need native intelligence to navigate the murky waters that is Nigeria ' s economy.

Are you saying that NOI can't do anything about this? She can work under this present Govt if given chance and terms of preference. Bubu should define her work as the President and she will work towards that direction. Bubu is the boss. NOI will outline policies and directions based on what the President wants. That things went wrong during the previous administration does not mean that she cannot fit into the current administration.

She needs to be recalled.

I'm proud to be a Nigerian . Honestly, waiting to be employed in Nigeria is like taking g a backward step. Check this.

Hard Analysis: Divide your salary by 30 days and see what you get ( i.e the number of days in a month and see the funny thing about your salary plan). For example (1) an average level 12 worker in the state government civil service earns #60,000, and this translates to #60,000 ÷30=#2,000 everyday. This is less than the amount made daily by an AVERAGE HAWKER in the city. (2) A FRESHLY EMPLOYED GRADUATE BANKER in most Nigerian BANKS earns an average of #120,000 monthly,so everyday you get #120,000÷30=#4000 as the daily value for your work life. By implication, this is less than the amount earned daily by an AVERAGE DRIVER in the city and in some villages. (3) If you are a FRESH GRADUATE EMPLOYEE in some oil companies, you earn an average of #300,000 monthly. So in a day your work value is #300,000 ÷30=#10,000m this is less than the daily amount earned by an IRRIGATION FARMER supplying vegetable to lagos MARKETS, TIPPER CAR driver supplying sand for three block industries and construction site just 3 times a day and DRIVERS of DANGOTE TRUCKS who have bought off the trucks at scrap value and are using them to convey products between villages and the cities for just five business owners. Hope by now, it is sinking in right? And when there is an issue in the family that requires FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, the DRIVERS,HAWKERS and the rest are looking up to you with WHITE COLLAR JOB. (4) If you are an NYSC MEMBER, you don't need to be told that #19,000÷30=#660 is your worth on a daily basis. I hope you know that PURE WATER SELLERS who owns a shop, a PEPPER SOUP JOINT and a small TOYOTA COROLLA CAR to distribute pure water to five restaurants earn more than you and WHEEL BARROW PUSHERS working on contract with three ware houses probably make more money than you each day. We shouldn't end at satisfactions from these earnings. We should be more proactive, create room for more income and strive to diversify our streams of income.

You see why I do my own biz? Check my signature! And I don't regret being my own boss.

If after 8yrs in office, and we still have a trace of corruption in government especially at federal level, then we must discredit this government.

After 7 months in office
1) Naira is heading to 400 for 1 dollar
2) Crude oil is practically useless
3) Federal Budget is now a corrupt enterprise (http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/buharis-egunje-budget/)
4) To pay salary na problem
5) States are financially distressed
6) Nigerian economy is in recession

If the above is your idea of 'faiting kwaraption' then you need urgent medical attention.

All that you have just mentioned are not in Bubu's economic plan. It is only corruption. One agenda for the country and you want me to do what? Is he bothered about all these you listed.

1) Bubu's godfather is Tinubu.
2) Tinubu is extremely corrupt, but Tinubu is not part of those being probed.
3) Amaechi, Bubu's trusted ally, was one of the most corrupt governors of Rivers state.

You are actually thinking with less than 4% of your brain.

Equating Nigeria ' s economic conundrum to mathematics feels a bit like comparing apples to oranges.

The failures of successive governments to lead Nigeria to political and economic eldorado in spite of its globally acclaimed immense potentials should tell you that there is nothing mathematical about the matter.

IkennaNweke:
he possibility of the Nigerian economy plunging into recession in 2016 is not in doubt, going by the poor economic policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari. Professor Pat Utomi has maintained.

As crude oil prices dive lower, threatening to dip below $30 a barrel for the first time since the financial crisis of 2008, commodity economies around the world are catching a cold.

The collapse of oil price is already taking its toll on the Nigerian economy. As it stands, there is no light at the end of the tunnel yet. Nigeria’s situation is further worsened by the current government’s delay in enacting sound fiscal and monetary policies.

Investors across the world are losing their investments in stock and property owners are also suffering losses as a result of depreciation in currencies.

The Naira is currently under intense pressure, the situation has depleted Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves, with policy makers now left with a difficult decision to make: either allow the currency to move in a wider range against the dollar or raise interest rates.

However, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has promised to stabilize the Naira without devaluing the currency.

President Muhammadu Buhari has also backed the CBN’s monetary policies, which have raised questions about its sustainability.

Two former Central bank governors, have disapproved the current policies initiated under Buhari, aimed at amelioration the situation. They have both called for more flexibility in the management of the country’s currency.

PDP is working overtime in its attempt to discredit this government. Instead of them to re-strategize and re-organize to prepare for the next election, they are spending all their energy on attacking Buhari.

Now. where is the link where Prof. Pat Utomi said Buhari had Plunged the Nigerian economy into recession, please provide the source. As far as i am concerned the above statement is thge opinion of the OP and not that of Pat Utomi. You said two former governors diapproved of the current policies of Buhari, was Pat utomi ever a central bank governor? Why not name the two central bank governors and what they said to discredit the Buhari Governement.

Okonjo Iweala ke! Okonjo Iweala that could not manage the Nigerian economy when crude prices was $140 is the one you want to bring and manage the economy when crude is now $30. You truly hate hate Nigeria and planning for its destruction.
