Life is hard, life will be hard, life has been hard, the rich will also cry. These are some prophetic declarations people made. Yet nobody heeded. Look at the current mess the economy is in, if not oarrested soon by a sudden improvement in global oil prices, we can envisage a period of hardship for common Nigerians. Yet it's a wonderful how we got here, how visionless our leaders were and how sheeple the citizens were. Anyway, stability is a strong deciding factor for mediocrity. Years and years of the oil boom made corruption and inefficiency attractive. The system was robust enough to accommodate them. We brewed a political class fueled and run by the most corrupt of the lot and some judged the performance of an elected official by how much his corruption benefited them, today the oil is almost valueless and recent trend aren't showing signs of recovery. Is this nation doomed? Will the economic crisis finally bring us all to our knees to face reality? That answer is very dependent on the Nigerian reaction to the current crisis, should we wail, point accusing fingers, politicise our situation etc, we will be doomed, should we learn from the current situation and become adaptive, then yes there will be light at the end of the tunnel. We can't keep importing toothpicks, we can't afford foreign trips to hospitals while our hospitals are in perpetual decay, we can't continue to have a non existent middle class, we can't continue to run an expensive government, we can't continue to give excuses In the power sector, we can't continue to afford failed refineries, we can't continue to undignify honest labour as opposed to sharp practises, in a nut shell, WE CAN'T CONTINUE NOR AFFORD TO BE USUAL NIGERIANS. The civil war proved that Nigerians are adaptable and creative, this economic crisis must force a rethink of everything Nigerian, there will be light at the tunnel-end, if only we react properly. #eddygourdo |

KingRex1:a technical approach is very glaring, diversification and economic prudence. It's a solution that involves everybody irrespective of status. The oil sector will never recover it's previous value and we can't continue to hope it does. Our waste culture, poor maintenance philosophy and worse of all, kleptomaniac political class must be done away with. Resources are scarce and we aren't robust enough to accommodate frivolousness |

Well, I read nothing new here - only the same sentences everyone has been repeating but phrased differently. |
