Now, this is serious. So, the black market can make up to 5naira for every dollar sell. I don't understand again. |

RichYoungNigger:According to the new development, they do not buy from the CBN again. May be banks still sell to them. I am talking about how they buy from individual and how much they sell. They make up to 3 to 5naira in each dollar transaction. I know very well that banks prefer selling to black marketers to their customers because the customers would want an official price and the black marketers won't mind, since they will surely double their gain. |

Yet someone was saying 1000ngn to $1 is not a possibility. Na surprise e go be last last I give this country 5 more years with its continued economic sluggishness and we'll be exchanging the dollar for slightly more than 1000ngn. By then, the country will be profusely begging to devaluate. |

onatisi: Sharrap dea joor, give us EVIDENCE that Buhari has been PRINTING MORE NAIRA, as you prophesied! With a mono-economy, whose only/major source of income is so decimated (from $137 to around $25 per Barrel, ...even with Iran entering the fray and Customers dumping Nigeria's oil) ........ and you still expect the Naira to compete favourably? Even Saudi Arabia, who invested her "Oil Wealth wisely" in the BOOM DAYS (unlike our Kleptomaniac PDP Looters), is gasping for breath right now, how much less a Nigeria" The "scarcity of the naira" within Nigeria itself, coupled with the President's refusal to devalue the naira, are just two "basic indicators" that throw your baseless assertions into the dustbin Are people like you so retarded ....or just naturally clownish? MathsChic:The exchange rate (price) is, primarily, determined by supply and demand for dollars. The question is, if CBN devalues, will that increase the supply of dollars or will it curb demand? Apart from a number of foreign portfolio investors who might move into the country with their dollars, devaluation will have little impact on supply. On the other hand, the continued demand for dollars, even at N330/$ also shows that devaluation may not curb a lot of demand. And if the CBN were to meet all these demand in the face of limited supply, then it's only a matter of time before we run out of Reserves, and then we will face the mother of all crises. --- Also, once essential items like critical raw materials and fuel imports become expensive due to devaluation, then headline inflation will hit double digits immediately. --- For the records, I still believe that the appropriate course of action for the CBN is to devalue, but it is not silver bullet and I am fully aware that it's a catch-22 situation. There will be a myriad of unintended consequences like organized labour embarking on industrial action and calling for wage review due to the impact of devaluation on REAL wage. --- The most effective course of action for the country is massive import Substitution programmes. There should be massive reorientation to encourage corporates and individuals to source alternative items locally. When next you are buying a car or laptop, maybe you should consider Innoson and Zinox. In the meantime, we can pray for temporary respite in oil prices to increase supply of dollars. |

The last time I checked, 1 US dollar = 1214.4500 Korean Won yet Korea is far better than Nigeria in virtually all aspects. How do they achieve it? We need to look beyond daily devaluation of naira against USD. It seriously makes my heartache and to those praying that God should help/save us, He already helped. Gave us crude oil, fertile lands, good climates and natural disaster very minimal. What else should He do for us? We need to help ourselves individually and collectively as a nation. 1 Like |

A man who promised to end BH insurgency in 3 months A man who promised to make $1=N1 A man who said there is no subsidy A man who promised to pay the jobless youths N5000 and took a sharp reverse A man who claimed to borrow N27 million to purchase presidency form and his wife donated drugs worth over N130 million to Adamawa state. A man who promised that the dog and baboon will soak in blood for election loss A man who claimed to have a little above a million naira in his bank account and some cows but after the assets declaration his account suddenly swelled to N30 million and more cows in his farm. ...... Bevista: That's the massive conundrum with no clear cut short/medium term solution to negate the projected effect of devaluation. The government cannot afford to embark on quantitative easing without any clear plan to increase her outputs They can't go on a borrowing frenzy to match the projected demand for rising wages to match the expected headline inflationary pressures as a direct result of devaluation without diversifying the economy Like you said, the only way out appears to be reducing the appetite for foreign goods which frankly isn't quick win as it's more of a longer term solution Nigeria is financially fvcked hence why all treasury looters and ineffective buffoons should be tied and shot at point blank range |
