The National Executive Committee, NEC, of the People Democratic Party, PDP, will today pick a new acting National Chairman from the North-east geopolitical zone of the country.

The new acting Chairman is to emerge at the end of the party’s NEC meeting holding in Abuja.

The meeting started yesterday with both the Board of Trustees and the officials of NEC meeting to decide the outcome of todays parley, This day reports.A source who spoke with the newspaper said the leadership of the party opted to bring an end to the chairmanship tussle by asking the North-east stakeholders to reduce the list of contenders to three.

The report listed aspirants shortlisted to include, Wilberforce Juta (Adamawa), former Minister of State for Power, Mohamed Wakili and Prof. Rufai Alkali.

Following the resignation of former chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, shortly after the party lost the last Presidential election, stakeholders from the North-East have been clamouring for someone from the zone to replace Muazu and bring to an end the continued stay in office of the Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

It will be recalled that a former aide to the former President, Goodluclk Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak had instituted a court action against Secondus over his continued stay as the acting chairman and subsequent order by the FCT High Court in December directed the party to appoint a new Acting National Chairman from the north east within two weeks.
