so sad, may her soul RIP ![]() the common oxygen cylinders in Nigeria don't use electricity, hence no need for UPS and thus making their claims false .. the woman was probably brought to the hospital critically ill (we see lots of cases here, people who self-medicate until its too late, instead of seeing a doctor asap) the hospital should sue the blog and the patient's relatives for damages. and pls, before you ignorantly blame doctors, do a quick google search, google is our friend |

Okijajuju1:It's still the same reason I called you a child of hate. I don't see any connection or relationship between the hospital mishap and senator Bruce. You hate the man simply because he's making waves and he's not a member of your party. Somebody asked if you know your own representative in the senate. Do you? I shake my head at your wisdom. https://www.sharegif.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/smhjay-baruchel.gif |

Lets us just take a moment to stare at your wisdom.. What stops your senator from sponsoring that bill? Do we really have no laws on health issues? Apparently Senator Bruce is the only senator people talk about, because he stays in touch with the people. He isn't doing anything wrong. I probably won't be seeing or hearing from my senator till the next campaigns. |

DeMekus:Some have eyes but cant see. Bruce is a Senator whose job is to raise bills and sponsor bills that eventually become law. Since Ben Murray Bruce has been in the Senate, he has tweeted, facebooked, instagramed, criticized on T.V, radio a all except do the one thing that can actually make a difference and which just so happens to be his job; RAISE A FHUCKING BILL. Maybe if he had sponsored or raised a Healthcare reform bill instead of tweeting, maybe if he sponsors of raises a local industries bill instead of telling us about how he bought two bulletproof Nigerian assembled China cars, e.t.c.. Yes, I am a child of hate. I hate fhuckery such as that Bruce has been peddling.. But I dont expect you to understand, Afterall you only have 'Common' sense. ![]() |

Common UPS and standby working generator. What a world of wicked people that takes human lives as if they are chicken. Please government should shutdown the hospital permanently and bring the owner and the staff to book. The relations of the woman should trace and know what to do to the wicked staff. |

segalex:The way people talk of something they are not sure of on nairaland is mind-blowing.. We have mainly 2 types of oxygen concentrators: 1. The portable oxygen concentrator which uses electricity, the merit of this type is that is cheap and affordable @ first but the cost of maintainance is expensive because of high electricity bill and this type does not give 100% oxygen. Its mostly used especially for paediatrics patients. 2.Manual Gas cylinders or gas tanks: this typ is like d one used by welders.. The only difference is dat it contains medical oxygen.. The initial cost of obtaining it is expensive but its maintainance is cheep.. It gives u 90% oxygen.. So yes we have electrically controlled oxygen storage equipments. She is right.. Lemme kno if u need pictures. |

I'm a medical doctor, and even though issues of negligence are abound here and there.......i won't allow uninformed pple to rubbish the profession. 1. Oxygen supply doesn't use electricity.....at least the common ones in naija. 2. For a case to require oxygen, it must be CRITICAL.....is there any law, even in europe, that says any critical patient....even if unconscious, must recover immediately a doctor touches him ? Some people patronise all sorts of herbal homes and roadside chemist shops_ and then, when the patient is half-dead, they rush him to hospital for us to do magic. 3. OP said the baby's mother is dead.....but the write-up says the dead person is Collins. Collins looks like a man's name. 4. And why is the woman holding the baby laughing ? What's funny ? Is this a game or frame-up ? I know genuine cases happen, but people should stop this bandwagon effect. Always looking for issues where none exists. |

0gbeni:It cld av been an oxygen concentrator thus making it dependent on electricity. Knowledge of the pt's history is needed b4 anyone can judge d situation or claim negligence. |

I lost my cousin due to negligence and it was in the hands of trainee medical students in Enugu. My sick cousin was abondoned by doctors and trainee medical students used him to do their laboratory pratice eventually he died and the doctors washed their hands off.I know someday nemesis will catch up with all of them that indulge in negligence and abadonment. |

dokiOloye:Shut your fucking mouth up instead of yapping like a rabid dog. What's the relationship between oxygen administration and electricity? You're here rapping on irrelevances. Was a doctor or nurse mentioned specifically? That's how juveniles throws tantrums around instead of facing the accusations head on. |

reechest:So far Nigeria is concerned, oxygen concentrator is only seen in well funded private clinics and in some ICU of our big teaching hospitals not in a mushroom private hospital. |

Its only in nigeria that when power fails and someone dies . Its the doctors fault. Let's even assume the oxygen supplier here is dependent on electricity. How is the doctor responsible for power failure... Every death is blamed on the nigerian doctor. I have seen cases where a patient is brought in dead and the doctor is still blamed for the death. Nija doctors don suffer. |

AFTER INQUIRER MADE AT THE HOSPITAL, IT WAS MADE CLEAR THAT THIS INFORMATION IS FALSE AS THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WERE DISCOVERED; FIRST AND FOR THE RECORD, THE WOMAN IN THE PICTURE "DID NOT DIE" BUT HER BABY WHO IS THE CHILD IN THE PICTURE. SECONDLY, THE MOTHER VISITED THE HOSPITAL FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH HER VERY SICK BABY ON SUNDAY THE 14TH OF FEBRUARY 2016, WHEREIN SHE WAS RECEIVED AND OFFERED ADMISSION DUE TO THE CRITICAL CONDITION HER BABY WAS FOUND IN. THE MOTHER DECLINED THE ADMISSION OFFERED TO HER BY THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS IN THE HOSPITAL AND LEFT WITH HER BABY STILL SICK, DEPENDING ONLY ON MINOR MEDICATION AGAINST THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE DOCTORS. ON MONDAY, THE 15TH OF FEB 2016, SHE CAME BACK WITH HER BABY IN A VERY BAD STATE HAVING CONVULSIONS, FAST BREATHING AND INSUFFICIENT WATER IN THE BODY. THE BABY WAS STILL RECEIVED IN SPITE OF HER DETERIORATED CONDITION BY THE HOSPITAL, THOUGH THEY POSSESS ALL RIGHTS TO REFER THE CHILD TO A PUBLIC HOSPITAL AND STARE CLEAR OF ANY SCANDAL SUCH AS IS THE CASE NOW. THE BABY WAS PUT UNDER INTENSIVE CARE AND UNFORTUNATELY DID NOT MAKE IT. WHICH WAS MAJORLY AS A RESULT OF LATE COMMENCEMENT OF PROPER TREATMENT OWING TO THE FACT THAT HER MOTHER REFUSED ADMISSION AT THE PROPER TIME. PLEASE DO NOT TARNISH THE IMAGE OF NOBLE HOSPITALS THAT TRY ALL THEIR VERY BEST TO SAVE LIVES. THE LOSS OF LIVES IN MANY HOSPITALS HAVE MAJORLY BEEN THE DISOBEDIENCE AND CARELESSNESS OF PATIENTS OR THE WARDS/PARENTS WHO BRING THE PATIENTS. SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, BUT DON'T LET IT PUSH YOU INTO DOING WRONG. LIVE IS NOT IN THE HANDS OF DOCTORS. |

The child was brought to the hospital on Sunday night by the mother and the doctor advised that the child should be admitted but the mother REFUSED and when went back home with the child only to rush the child back to the hospital on Monday when the child became unconscious (the CCTV footage will be released soon). On the issue of oxygen and the hospital have both oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders and two standby generators. Why do people like to blame others for their mistakes. |

In findings from the hospital, which is not difficult for anyone to find in Abakpa, the following information were gather which the audience can analyse to see where lies the negligence as purported by the individual that made this post. i) The child - a girl who died (not the mother), had uncountable passage of watery stool and high fever, came to the hospital during the late hours of the evening with her mother and was seen by a doctor who offered admission to the child, but was declined by her mother who took her still sick child home. ii) The mother had earlier before coming to the hospital the first time, given the child drugs such as Rophergan, Neoflin, Artesusate, Amoxyl, Falgyl, Paracetamol and a lot more within 24hrs of the child's illness without a doctor's prescription (Self Medication). iii) The mother in spite of the child's condition and instructions from the doctor to admit the child during the first encounter on the first day, did not bring back to the hospital until later the next day, a deteriorated condition of a critically sick child. iv) During the second visitation to the hospital, the doctor on duty abandoned all patients and immediately took to attend to the child who was rushed to his consulting room with very high temperature, unconsciousness and convulsion with little water in the body - having been passing watery stool for more than 48hrs. v) The doctor managed to gain IV access into obese (fat) and dehydrated baby, controlled the convulsion and sent her to an emergency room. vi) The child was put on oxygen immediately and given IV infusion called Normal Salile. Two sources of oxygen where used to manage the baby in the hospital and they were; i) Oxygen delivered from the cylinder when there is no light (electricity as used). ii) Oxygen from the oxygen concentrator when there is light (electricity as used). Also a machine called the pulse oximeter (children's pulse oximeter) was used to monitor the child's oxygen level and a machine called the glucometer was used to monitor the child's blood sugar level. Vii) The person who posted this is ignorant of the fact that though EEDC may have taken the light, that there is a switch to the oxygen cylinder for the child's oxygen need which was provided. Moreover, oxygen concentrators don't use Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). All that has been said are verifiable at the hospital and the need may arise to revisit this issue with a post on some of the incidence which occurred, as captured by the CCTV cameras in the hospital. It is unacceptable for somebody in his/her ignorance, scandalize and discredit the hospital which has used all its resources to try to save a critically sick child who would have had a good chance of survival if the mother had listened to the advice of the doctor and agreed to the admission offered her the previous day. The social media most especially the notable ones should try as much as possible to verify information before letting it out to the public to make their sites credible and avoid tarnishing people's businesses or image by publishing scandalous and libellous facts about them. |
