well I am going to add my own experience here, first we do have a blogging platform we utilize and encourage bloggers alike to utilize. We use it to promote our clients business just like blog branding specifically on their niche, Now in respect of SEO I do know how to write my content..to the point my clients blog post I wrote for them are ranking on google.com.ng

we have not even linked this sites with high PR links (as you have suggested, backlinks are good but they donot carry heavy weight as before...this is advanced SEO 101) and already ranking for competitive keywords, but this can be attributed to the power of my social network, i have good sound social accounts that I share each post on and they get traction of reshared and engagements, this in turn sends signals to Google who love quality content to rank the site a bit higher, now if every web visitor that click on the site and take account of time spent and click through rate with bounce rate the url will improve in serp (all without getting PR backlinks), so if I decide to get PR links? well that is game on!
