I'm yet to figure out what Nigerians had in mind when they screamed " we want change" endlessly? Brethren, change is here, can y'all jes keep quayet and enjoy the ride?
Freegift75:

www.tribuneonlineng.com/i-wont-pay-n5000-to-unemployed-nigerians-i-have-different-priority-buhari

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has said that he has a different priority other than to pay N5,000 to the unemployed Nigerians as had been promised.

He made the remark in Saudi Arabia as he continued his visit to the Middle East over the weekend. He said he would rather channel resources into the building of infrastructure, education, agriculture and mining to create employment opportunities for able bodied young men.

He said: "This largesse N5,000 for the unemployed, I
have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don't work."

The promised to pay N5,000 monthly stipend to the most vulnerable in the society was a major plank of the presidential campaign of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) last year.

The president has also called for better conditions for
Nigerians undertaking the pilgrimage to the holy land of Saudi Arabia and has consequently directed directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) to sit down with the Saudis to negotiate improved terms and conditions for our pilgrims performing the Umrah and the annual Hajj. His remark followed the completion of talks with rulers
of the Saudi Arabia and the acceptance by the Saudi
government to freely and openly discuss outstanding
issues with Nigeria.

Our president only makes important announcements when abroad. Why didn't he say this in Nigeria?

The man not get respect for naija.
Na only wen e dey abroad with all the foreign press, he can't help but talk wen questioned. How many times has he held reasonable exhaustive interactive town-hall style press conferences to brainstorm with Nigerians about intended strategies to achieve his national goals?
He do love and mean well for the country. But ill prepared for modern Nigeria.

Those promises were made at $100 dollar oil. Not realistic at $30 dollar oil. Leadership must evaluate its decisions at every moments.
Kudos PMB. Yes it is a failed promise. But it is better to made d right decision even though it may lead to failed promises.

This post is not to defend PMB. This post is to support him for making the right decision. I never agree to the 5000 naira stipend to unemployed graduate. It would have be a waste. But 5000 naira for the most vunerable 1million nigerians (Mostly widows and physically challenge) is welcome if we can fund it. 5k to unemployed graduate is a no no no.

PMB did not deny the promise was made despite the fact that he never personally made d promise. He is only saying on his scale of preference, that is not among top priority. PMB is a firm and sincere leader. He speak his mind straight up. No president in the world including United State of America, have ever succeeded in fulfilling all campaign promises.

At every point in time, a leader must evaluate what he consider most important to d nation and make a bold decision. Leadership is dynamic. It is better to be criticise for not achieving a campaign promise than implementing a promise that is unrealistic just to save face. Even if it means losing the next election,or losing popularity, a leader must put the country first.

The funny thing is dat those wailers who never supported the idea, who said it will promote laziness, will still be the one to condemn and criticise him for not prioritising it instead of commending him for doing d needful.

I am living in governance mode. I dont care about what campaign promise were. I only care about good governance. Any campaign promise that is not realistic today can go to hell. For those who cares so much about campaign promises, you can use ur PVC in 2019 and vote what u want.

Leadership is about optimising available resources for the best of the country. Not wasting it on project in order to look good and save face.
I am so in love with this comment. God bless you and give you the grace to educate Nigerians the more.

the purpose of election debates is to know how prepared the candidates are in solving the known and hidden problems of the constituency. both teams P and A have boycotted it in the past. i hope this would be taken more seriously in future years.

This decision is anticipated considering the dwindling revenue from international market. Does it makes any
economic sense paying N5k stipend to unemployed youth when at least 2/3 of the 36 State Government
cannot even pay staff salaries? The unavailability of a reliable unemployment database has made the
implementation of that programme extremely difficult if not practically impossible.

Making promise base on oil price Mr president. You thought oil price will be selling far above our budget bench mark. Now, reality has dawned on you. If you had analyse the economic situation on ground you wouldn't made such promise cos USA has started flooding the market with oil before u made that promise. Well, i believe it was to score some cheap political goal. Neverthless, i applaud your decesion because is not feasible to pay #5000 stipends in the face of this economic downturn. Diversify the economy, bring out policies that will encourage local manufacturing that is the way foward. It may be a long term process, but it is certainly the best option.

ruling nigeria for anyone at this point in time is a headache contract as the supply is nowhere near current demand and the media would remind you of your promises everyday. but no manager applies unless assured of being capable of doing the job.

For those who cares so much about campaign promises, you can use ur PVC in 2019 and vote what u want. For those who claim Buhari won the election because of 5000 naira stipend for unemployed are not saying the truth. More than 99% of people who voted for Buhari voted for him because he was seen as much better to fight corruption. Not because he promised 5000 naira. I am not even sure he got 100 votes because of the 5000 naira stipend promise.

Leadership is about optimising available resources for the best of the country. Not wasting it on project in order to look good and save face.

You dey mind them?

Any graduate asking for or expecting a #5000 stipend is not worth the paper his/her certificate is printed.

I voted PMB for a changed Nigeria of accountability and probity not because he will pay 5k to anybody.

Prosperity is beyond paying stipend, it's a state of mind, a conscious that we need to inculcate as a nation, not greed and bigotry.

we are lucky as if the past administration remained in power we would have kept on borrowing and the wound under the cloth would have been highly infested by then and today's situation would be called blessings. better we face our injury and move on.

This change is the biggest scam I have ever witnessed.

Just bought 27 litres of fuel at the filling station at the rate of #120 per litre.

The past govt was corrupt, but things wasn't as costly as it is now.

Yes, your prority is fighting opposition party members of the previous administration in the name of fighting corruption. And appointing same corrupt officials into your cabinet cos they are of same party with you? That's your priority, Mr. President.

Implementation of this would have provided opportunity for the authorities to develop a working process database of the unemployed. Especially if done decentralised, that is by local governments, then states and federal aggregation. Things like national identities, banking biometric datas and possibly registered phone Sims can be combined for identities validations.
Even the stipends don't need to be wholely free. Communities duties can be arranged for once or twice monthly engagements to earn the stipends. More important, data for further and future mobilisations will Be gathered.

In as much as i support this, i will say this administration is visionless and directionless (pardon my grammar). Why make promises you know might be difficult to keep? wasn't oil prices and the naira crashing during the campaigns? Some people fail to realize that this government is been attacked because of they promised the masses "heaven" and we are yet to see anything close to it. It is now glaring that they never had any plan to pay the 5k. But i am wondering where all the money for all the president's overseas trip is coming from, the APC supporters aren't asking questions when they ought to. And yet they claim Nigeria is broke and we can't fund budget and also pay youths the 5k as promised.
