We don't want this kind of news. They should tax alcohol producers per bottle in their factory instead of we the consumers.

Alcohol must stay. Commissioner must go.
they increase taxes on alcohol meaning dat producers of alcohol will be paying higher tax rate.

When dis is done, the producers will now increase the prices of their product and as a consumer wen u buy at a higher price dan the normal price ur also taxed.

The extra amount added is considered as the consumer tax nt dat they are taxed directly bt through the producer and dis is done 2 stop or reduce the consumption of alcohol.

It is not rubbish policy if only the government will use tax from it judiciously for development.
Where I live, any plate of food or drink you takes in any good resto you pays 10% as govt
tax and in some places another 10% for service charge on the total cost of food or drinks taken.
Nigerians are under taxed..hehehe

The economy is in doldrums and being a largely civil service powered state coupled with the drop in Crude-Oil prices, there’s no money in the state. The entertainment industry has helped persons to survive and have a source of income, placing a tax on consumption of alcohol and related products is preposterous considering the fact that Akwa Ibom isn’t Singapore.

I like Udom as an individual, but what Akwa Ibom needs isn’t new taxes or multiple taxation what it requires is making the business environment conducive and being able to attract investments into the state. The Ibaka sea port project must be hastened and importantly, the citizens should be admonished on how to be productive employees.

Kolababe:
People who consume alcohol in Akwa Ibom will now be made to pay tax. The State’s Commissioner for Finance, Akan Okon, made the announcement yesterday while speaking with Journalists in Uyo.

“Some people who lodge in hotels and consume alcohol will henceforth pay taxes to the state government. The focus is to look inward to see how the various opportunities that are available in the state can be harnessed to raise the Internally Generated Revenue(IGR),’’ the commissioner said.

The commissioner also decried the attitude of some businessmen in the informal sector of the economy who fail to pay their taxes to government. He noted that if they paid their taxes, it would help the state pull resources together and that would help in providing social amenities for citizens.

This is one of the ways by which government can control the consumption of harmful products in a way that it will benefit the general public through tax imposed on it.

The state govt has right to impose this kind of tax. It has come to stay already in some states ie Lagos State. You drunkards have to adapt or quit.

infact any one that wants to drink should be made to carry drinking license or identity card.

it will be another source of income to the government as well as the police.
