I have personally gone to their sites while taking a tour with two friends who were making decisions regarding buying or building in Lagos. This was back in 2014. We all concluded that the houses were built with cost saving and profit maximization as the primary focus. One of use went ahead to buy while the other two of us decided to steer clear.
If you would have to carry out retrofitting (plumbing corrections, structural amendments, electrical rewiring etc) after buying a house, you should really exercise some caution.
One has to be certain about structural integrity before moving their family into any building higher than 1 floor in Nigeria, unless built with name stamps of seasoned construction experts. Lekki Gardens is not in that league.

To even think they had a promo of buy 3 get 1 free (or so) on Chevron drive beats my imagination!

May they never go unpunished.

BUT COME TO THINK OF IT... WHAT WERE THEY DOING IN AN UNCOMPLETED BUILDING AT 4.00AM

Don't think too hard my dear.
All that statement about company policy... na wash.

Majority of these artisans are from cotonou and most of them reside around Badagry and environs while working in lekki.

So most of them sleep in the same buildings where they work. Only a few of them go home after work on Saturdays.

Lekki Gardens..

The worst investment I ever made.

I am glad I pulled out without taking too much loss.

Those houses are very very poorly built. Once you walk into the estate and take a critical look at the structures, you will see why they are selling them so cheaply (technically speaking).

The Estate managers are more interested in selling units and taking estate management fees than they are on the building quality.

Imagine that building was fully occupied when it collapsed? The disaster would not be this nonsense they are saying.

I hope Lagos State Government can use this as grounds to investigate all Lekki Gardens buildings especially the Condos

You talk true my brother, I own one of their buildings it would have been better to build yours from scratch.

6000 units of buildings with potential safety issues. If I were living in any of those units,I would request for integrity check by a third party.
Who knows,if the same templates was used for most of the units.

Lekki Gardens is a reputable residential property development company and has successfully completed and delivered over 6,000 units of houses across Lagos, Ogun, Rivers State and the Federal Capital territory, Abuja in the past 4 years and most of them already occupied.

uncompleted building.. 18 dead. what kind of people rent an uncompleted building?

It was not rented...These people are site labourers, site cooks e.t.c.
Lots of them come from afar to huddle...
Instead of paying T.fare from their meagre daily pay, they remain in the Site and work for days, weeks or months to enable them safe a lot..
And it helps them complete their days job since they start work early instead of going tru the regular lagos traffic.

Ehya, this lekki garden guys just lost 30 prospect because of this issue. Their estate plan in abuja is cool, so they came to my office and did a presentation. Come and see how ogas just dey buy in. That was in january. About 10 people already made 50 percent down patments which range from 20 to 30m. Some 20 other guys paid between 7 and 15m.

Den late last month, the video of lekki gardens in lagos was allover youtube. Residents regretting buying into the estate. Before we say jack, 10 people frm my office dn go collect dem money back, immediately this recent one happen, like 15 people dey discuss as at today, how dem fit collect them money back.

I'm not surprised one of their buildings collapsed. You only need to look at one of their so called finished buildings to know that they do not pay attention to detail.

A bricklayer once told me that the quality of work on one of their sites was so shoddy, that he couldn't continue working there.

Minimum acceptable standards is what we're talking about here, and Lekki Gardens buildings don't appear to meet it.

Sincerely, I've been expecting something like this to happen.

As Far as i am concerned, all lekki gardens buildings/projects, past and presence should hv a proper risk assessment by an independent and honest Safety body.

Govt must as a matter of urgency embark on review of all the estate building structures in the lekki area especially this lekki Gardens.

you are building on a water logged area and yet you compromise on standard material, then you must be a murderer.
The wind storm that happened three days ago believe you me if it had persisted for a longer period many more houses would have come down.
On a country where standards are flouted and govt officials look the other way only to come screaming when the did has been done.
Personally, I do not believe in all these developer built houses, the finishing is made so attractive to get a buyer quickly but beyond that is a poor structure underneath.
Government must not delay in dealing with defaulters no matter who is involved because human lives are precious to be wasted due to the greed of some individuals.

The deceit of Richard Nyong and his Lekki garden's led team was shouted before this calamity happened but it never made it to FP where the world will read it and learn. More houses in Lekki gardens will fall when occupied. We are mourning over 30 artisans that occupied this singular building. Assuming subscribers have moved in with their families, what will happen?
https://www.nairaland.com/862800/lekki-gardens-estate-how-genuine/13

why will a man's greed, lust and quest for money drive him to change a design from 3 floors to 5 floors? WHy? Why? Why?
Richard Nyong, why?
what happened to one of these 5 storey houses, will happen to the others in Ikate Elegushi and the one on chevron drive opposite Northern Foreshore. They were built with a foundation for 3 storey but YOU removed the roof and added extra 2 floors/ decking.
The best thing is for LASG to demolish all the 5 & 6 storey buildings before more untimely deaths happen.
