I can see people complain on power outage for a week or a month. For my area, we had PHCN light June 2015 and will be glad if we have it in June this year.

I believe senate doesn't have the power to stop the increment but can only advised because NERC is also backed by law that established them and this issue of increment has been approved by the 7th assembly and passed by law and that was why Fashola was saying his hand are tied. only court of law or FG can reserve it.

Their duty primarily is to make law. Supposing they pass the bill into law, there is nothing the executive can do about it

People seem to have accepted the current harsh conditions in gud faith. Imagine having to pay outrageous fees for non existent power in d name of estimated billing. I think dey jus look at d location of the building and jus fix a rate. My bill over the past couple of months has increased from 5500 to 9800 dis last month and it's even more annoying considering d supply in d last couple of months has become really annoying.

Please what's your experience with the prepaid meter? I am considering getting one, even if it means footing the bill.

I honestly don't mind the increase. I will pay 20k a month for 20 hours power supply. Currently paying 3-5k a month on prepaid metre and about 40k on generator a month. Makes no sense.
bros take it easy okay? It is not good to lie.
There is nothings like paying 3-5k a month for pre paid meter costumer. If u buy credit of 3k or 5k if it finishes it means you have burnt it because for pre paid customers apart from fix charges it is what you buy that you use.

It is costumers with the post paid meter or with the extimated bill that can talk of paying 3k or 5k even when they might nothave consumed that amount in a month.

For a pre paid meter client, nothing like monthly bill or anything close that.

Oga this is the exact thing my dad is about to do. He has written a letter for them to disconnect him completely pending when they bring prepaid meter. I think everybody should follow suit o

Am thinking of going this route too. 50litres of fuel is 6k at the current price. That 50litres would give me over a dozen times what NEPA or whatever their name is is giving me monthly currently, for which am being asked to pay 10k.

NASS is a toothless dog that barks only but can't bite. You should have rejected that bill and beat the hell out of that punk that brought silly crazy bill to you. On the issue of estimation, when you see a capital letter D printed on your bill it means you are under observation for estimation and if it is an E then you have been placed on full bill estimation. You must learn how to read the meter when the EEDC officer come around to read the bill and make sure you snap the meter to get the reading. So you can tackle those bastards head on. One funny lie told by these people is that your analogue meter is over 40 years old and it is not functioning well. It's all lie!
Actually, the capital letter D means that his meter is faulty and therefore cannot be read and so his bill is being fully estimated every month.

If you look at the 2 bills very well, you'll notice that the Last Actual Reading (LAR) for both January and February are the same. And the LAR date was not shown in the bill. That means that the last time his meter was actually read was when it was fully functioning, which was God knows when. Also, notice that there was no Present Actual Reading (PAR) for both January and February. Normally, LAR minus PAR equals your energy consumption for the period. So, it is obvious that the 300 figure they put as his consumption was estimated.

OP needs to take it up with the relevant EEDC officials so that his meter can be repaired else he will keep paying for what he didn't use

Also, i can see that the fixed charge was only applied on his January bill. It was scrapped in February and i can't see it on his February bill.

You don't get bro. It is what I used per month on average not the fix charges. The quoted already inclusive the fixed charge.

We have electricity on average 10 hours a day, sometimes 14 hours. Except last 4 days with zero hours due to the strike by the Ikeja DISCO

I just got my bill for the month of March & I was stunned at the amount I saw, for the fact that I stay in a student compound & we have a meter, our bill was 12k for 3 rooms. Meaning I'll pay 4k just for using the fan & electric bulb & sometimes pressing iron... I'm still in shock cos my rent is a 100k excluding the monthly bill

What this govt. Is doing i dont blame those that tap direct current illegally or tampered with their pre-paid meter to slow down the rate of energy consumed at the least level.

Once power supply was privatized in 2014, price increases were a given.

You know, the problem with power supply in Nigeria is that Nigerians are not willing to pay for power supply. They want it free of charge. They do not want to pay the amount needed to fix the power supply. And our power supply infrastructure is worn out,and dilapidated. In 1997....N5trillion was the estimate needed to fix power. Now, I guess it is five times that.

GEJ privatised power because he knew government could not pay for 24 hours power supply. Once the DISCOS came on stream, the Government ceased to have anything to do with power supply. As a result., prices have to go up....or else the DISCOS won't have the cash to fix up the power supply, or even to generate more power (AEDC, my disco, has plans to build a big power station in the FCT. Where is the cash gonna come from?). But, most Nigerians have not yet grasped the cold reality that there is no more government owned PHCN. So, when prices went up in January, we all blamed government. Which govt? Govt does not run or fund the DISCOS.They are now businesses....and businesses run on money from customers.

High time we realized....that we Nigerians have to pay for 24 hours light.

My brother, I understand this part very well, as a matter of fact it's been like 5yrs since the DISCO officials said our meter was obsolete (whatever that means), meaning we had always been billed on estimation all these years, more like 98% of the customers here suffer the same conditions.

National house of Assembly in a toothless police dog. The increment still stand.when I paid my last bill it was #23.09 per unit instead of #16.11.
They even collected fixed charges on top it. Am a tenant and I got into d house in January 2016 and I was told I have to pay for d prepaid metre fixed charges right from d time they installed it. It was installed in October 2015 so I paid for all d months fixed charges I did not use.

Did you read my post at all? The fixed charge from 2014 till last month should have provided more than enough to fix whatever you think needs to be fixed. My problem is not even the tariff, it's the outrageous estimated consumption that comes even if you don't get a day of electricity for the whole month, and the apparent deliberate decision of the DISCO not to meter the supply, which by the way I've read it's part of the agreement for the implementation of the multi year tariff order. Don't support impunity, unless your dad owns one of the DISCOS.

In this case, there is nothing the National Assembly can do.

DISCOS are private companies, not government run.And with the mess they inherited in power supply infrastructure...I am not surprised that they had to raise tariffs.Govt does not give them much cash (if any).

If you want the NA to do something....maybe they should make PMB re-nationalize the power sector. But that means paying the investors hefty compensation fees(to avoid the potential lawsuits.).

Here is the hard truth.

The power supply infrastructure is obsolete. In many areas it needs replacement. And all that costs far more than what we pay in fixed charges.

Keep this in mind....we need trillions of naira to fix Nigeria Power Inc. Trillions. And the government has no hands in it.

We also need to generate more power too. Right now...we need 7000mw extra to get 24 hours power

If you liked....we should have told GEJ not to privatize power back in 2014.

When the GSM companies came around.....SIM cards cost as high as N5000. Prices came down once they had gotten the money they needed to set up a GSM backbone for we country. Same for power.

We do not have power enough because we need far more money than we have to fix the power sector.

And where I live...we have to same issues. And rich I am not.

In 1997....Thisday Newspaper reported that we need N5trillion to fix the power sector. Imagine how much it is now.

I hate it....but the cold reality is...we want power....we got to pay for it. Or Government reverses the whole DISCO thing....and takes over power supply again. You want that?
