Do You Think It Is A Good Idea For The FGN To Give N5000 Monthly To The Poorest by DeanSim(op):
That question was from the office of Vice President through ureport.

The options are (a) Yes b) No c) Others

My choice was No.

My reason: The 5k is simply giving the poor youth a fish rather teaching them how to fish. It's better the FGN use money to provide resources that will reduce poverty.

In addition, the 5k monthly will have lots of negative consequences like youth who don't deserve will be getting it even stringent measures, it will make youth lack creativity and feel lazy to contribute their own service to the society - I bet some poor youth are very much okay with the 5k/month scheme.

What's your own option and reason.

Personally, I don't see this scheme as a way forward.

Yes! but they can't afford it.. N5k won't stop anyone from struggling.. in some countries where the government pays for welfare of the kids in their country, does that stop their parents from working.. no!

Giving the poorest 5,000 was not a bad idea. All rich nations have a welfare system to cater for the most vulnerable in their soceity. However, the idea was a bad one for Nigeria. Where did APC think it would get the money for such a jamboree? Also, just how did they think they were going to implement it? It was a good idea but a bad idea for Nigeria

This is not the time to deliberate the validness of the idea. It was a campaign promise. Before the promise was made, it should have been properly thought through. Now is the time to fulfill campaign promises.... Or was it a deceit? was it coined to delude gullible Nigerians? grin

As of 2013, Nigeria's population is 173.6 million, let's assume 100 million are the ones to receive the N5000 monthly,
N5000 x 100 000 000 = N500 000 000 000.
N500 000 000 000 x 12(months) = N6 trillion.

Where will Nigeria gets N6 trillion, and even if we can get it, can we afford to do this? Capital No. If the FG wanna help the poor, then FG should build a different Production Company at each capital of the 36 states, doing this will reduce import, employ jobless graduates at high level as well as labourers at low level, this will also make the educated ones and the illiterate to share knowledge and expand the relationship status of the two class, while in the other side, such structures on earth will means more development to Nigerian cities, with the profit they are generating, hundreds of industries can be constructed in a decade, at that rate, Nigeria will become good at exporting, such economy won't shake even if crude oil becomes free, and if it continues, in 3 to 4 decades, Nigeria can be the 2nd after china, holding world economy.

Provide jobs for them....... not enslave them mentally to N5000.

They should train them to empower themselves.

Poverty is a mentality, don't encourage it.
