PAINTING WITH WORDS
I will paint a verse of rhyme
Brushing the strokes in steady rhythm
Applying my words like vibrant colours
Strumming my strings like expert players

My colours are winsome words
Screaming silently sonorous sounds
My colours are creative chords
Striking pleasantly melodious tunes

I will paint with my ink
Deep down my thoughts will sink
I will paint with my words
Smoothly strumming my poetic chords

Of the starry heavens I will speak
And the eternal joy which I seek
Of the blue sea, a place of life
Of the wicked world, a place of strife

I will tell the forgotten tale
Of when our nation was hearty and hale
I will spray words like showers of rain
Of the evil things which now reign

I will tell of the beauty of Africa
The sweet sounds of laughter
I will speak of the serenity
Of the enchanting Serengeti


The songs of birds in the trees
The gentleness of the evening breeze
The innocence of the peaceful dove
And the many colours of true love

I will mix colours of proverbs
I will apply the brush of pleasant rhymes
Vicissitudes of life will be my paint box
Vistas of bygone years my brushstrokes

Facets of love will be my melodies
Storms of existence, my cacophonies
Discordant tunes of life’s complexities
The sojourn with no journey mercies

I will paint with my ink
Deep down my thoughts will sink
I will paint with my words
Smoothly strumming my poetic chords

I will paint my words in eternal colours
And blue rhythms that scream silent screams.
