5. Gave God an ample sum of money and didn't announce it.
You'll see people give with one hand and broadcast with the other. Little wonder, the seed fails to reproduce maximally.

This is one I won't agree with you on.
That's why you see flamboyant, worldly pastors looking dazzling at the expense of the church members.
The kingdom of God has nothing to do with worldly wealth God shares blessings and favour as HE so pleases regardless of whether the recipient is charitable in giving or not

What I narrated is the edited version becos I don't have energy to be typing epistles. I'm not paid to post on nairaland.

The guy was 21 years old studying for his license in the UK when his aunt activated the jazz she had kept for him since his birth. She used his bathwater for the jazz and bewitched him. The guy was in the bathroom bathing, in the UK, when the jazz kicked in. Water calleth unto water.

He says one minute he is bathing, the next minute he is in Nigeria. He doesn't know how he got here. And that is how this brilliant man wasted the next 30 something years doing nothing because he was under a spell. He had no wife, no child. He was just rigmaroling around being useless to himself and everybody.

When finally the spell was broken, he got the license he should have gotten in his 20s, at the age of 71.

What of the late Fatai Rolling Dollar? His breakthrough came when he was in his 70s, after struggling for 50 years in abject poverty. How long did he live to enjoy his fame and wealth before he died? What this man should have achieved and enjoyed when he was young, because of wickedness of enemies, he was only able to achieve in his old age where he spent a short time before dying.

Bro you should be the one opening your eyes, not me.

undecided and where is it written in the Bible, that where i sit matters ?

What if its the same Holy Spirit that is the one guiding me to sit where i wanted, but they are trying to lead me away from there ?

To me as long as you sit at the right place, their guidiance doesn't matter
The same Holy Spirit cannot guide you and them wrongly. The Ushering Unit itself came to be by the Spirit and it responsibility is to usher you into the church and position you for the same Spirit. You are not an Usher and as such you don't have right to choose where to sit in church when you come except the Ushers are not around. The unit was also set up to maintain order in the church and you must subscribe to it. Imagine if everyone in the church thinks about them the way you do. There would be disorganization and the Spirit of God does not work where the people are not organized. There's no need being unnecessarily stubborn. You'll only be setting yourself up for destruction because it wouldn't end in the church. It'll take you to the devil. So don't offend the Holy Spirit. Respect a constituted authority. Choose to be humble.

samuelson06:
Allow them guide you always even if they separate you from someone you came to church with. Remember, they may not be doing that intentionally but through the leading of the Spirit. Positioning matters a lot in church. So allow the Spirit place you where you should be to be able to receive from the same Spirit you went to visit. Again, your Pastor put them there, so disobeying them is disobeying your man of God which isn't good.
Very correct, thank you. Please, the brother/sister who is not happy to sit where the usher recommends, the Bible says we should submit to authority for every authority is appointed by God for a purpose Romans 13: 1 - 5. The church, I mean where our Lord Jesus Christ actually dwells, is the house of the Lord and my take is that He directs any turn of events in His house - things do not just happen in His house by chance.

I encourage bro/sis to obey the ushers even if it means splitting temporarily from the person that you both came together to church.

Bless you.

I beg to disagree with you on this "I sit where I feel like attitude" when it comes church folks and ushers cos if everyone in that service chose to do what they "felt" like, I bet church we will end up with a service of broken chairs.

So wen the usher tries to get you to a seat, most times to feel up empty seats in front that I sometimes wonder why we run away from and you rebuff them, what does the bible call that?

DISOBEDIENCE

What a way to start service unto God?

I had to realise this and this made me stop givin ushers headache, after all I am spending only few hours in church!

Bro/sis, I kindly ask that you please open-mindedly refer to my previous post. We are all growing in the Lord and should be subject to one another, growing together in faith.

The ushering unit is a governing authority in the house of the Lord. Romans 13: 1-5 especially tells us how we should react to governing authorities, let alone a governing authority in God's house.

Thank you as you read the portion and let the Holy Spirit guide you bro/sis.

Still A Christian, When Was The Last Time You Did Any Of These?

Some will say, it's not 'works' but 'grace'. The same Grace Jesus had yet He worked all day and night for His Father.

If you call yourself a "Christian" and haven't done some or all of these, 3 things are involved;

- You are backslidden.

- Your church doesn't really teach stuff like these or...

- You have chosen to ignore the demands/promptings of the Holy Spirit.

If you are (or really, badly want to be) a true disciple of Jesus, these seven things should not be far-fetched from your habits:

1. Evangelizing

I laugh when I hear people, 'My money can be used to preach the gospel, as for me, No Time!" Yes, you can't preach globally, what about those sinners around you? Your siblings? Friends? Neighbours? This is the GREAT COMMISION for ALL! You drink or sleep with them but can't preach to them. lipsrsealed

2. Praying for those who don't want you to succeed.

In a world of ours, 'anyone against my progress, DIE BY FIRE', is now the norm. Is this only what Jesus taught us? There is more to prayer than "FALL down and DIE!!!" Prayer for others is a mystery that reminds God of our own needs.

3. Loving Our "Haters"

I still remember that doing so "will HEAP COAL OF FIRE on their heads" as the Bible puts it. When was the last time you showed mercy to the merciless? Do you testify in church just because your prayers in rendering an innocent man a widower was answered? What of apologizing even when you're palpably right.

4. Really read your Bible

It's true, "social media sites are gradually stealing away God's people". I have been guilty sometimes too. If only you can spend half the time you spend on Facebook, BBM and whatsapp! This BOOK will keep you from sin and sin will keep you from this BOOK - Immortal John Bunyan. Each time I've fallen, I wasn't reading my Bible. sad

5. Gave God an ample sum of money and didn't announce it.

You'll see people give with one hand and broadcast with the other. Little wonder, the seed fails to reproduce maximally.

6. Humble yourself enough to sit wherever the usher asks you to.

The usher sef, her shoe and appearance aren't as commanding as yours and she wants to command you to sit in the front row. I even kneemw when she started this church and gave her life to Christ. Hmm

7. Pray till you had an heavenly experience

I have come to understand as a Christian, 'you are as weak or strong as your prayer life". Of course, I'm not talking about, "Gimmie gimmie kinda prayer". A prayer of Consecration or Dedication always and have proven to be more powerful than the rest.

Mid-week services and Cell fellowship are OUT of some folk's programme. They may be leaders in church yet so busy to do the First works- First Love.

When was the last time you spent quality time with your Father? Not in church but alone. This is a question for all of us.

#Godbless##Goodmorning#

kikiki Lol grin na on top usher matter you dey write epistle LWKM.

Anyways jokes apart, i sit where i want to sit, Period !

I mostly arrive to church earlier before time, place my Bible on where i want to sit, and when the service starts, these ushers, mostly the ladies would come up to me and tell me to move to where they want, especially when a lady is sitting next to me, so, pray tell, which Holy Spirit is directing them ? Besides HS had taught me to always sit at the same position in church, except when am on duty, so come next Sunday, you'll find me at the same place.

Lastly, there is no scripture backing to it, and i think its laim to always metion the devil or hell fire when ever you are trying to prove a point, its so not christian at all, i don't like those who do, i see them as misguided christians and i don't converse with such people, Jesus Christ never did that, i only wonder where you peepz got it from .

Bro you should be the one opening your eyes, not me.
The two examples you cited are obviously short on DISCIPLINE as with most people who claim witchcraft/enemies for their shortcomings in life.
How many months do you think it takes to get a flying licence? How long did your 21 year old stay in the UK before he suddenly returned home?
Since when did having a wife and a child (children) the ONLY yardstick for enjoying life?
Do you know how many of those who contributed meaningfully to our modern conveniences and whose name are celebrated daily NEVER had a wife/husband nor child huh

You should read up more on Fatai Rolling Dollar's life before using him as example next time to avoid further embarrassing yourself.
You can START from this tribute in Vanguard at his death:

Rolling Dollar was born July 22, 1926 in Lagos as prince of the royal family of Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju, originally from Ede, a Yoruba town lying on the Osun, the river famously linked to Yemoja, the river goddess.

He attended schools in Lagos and was later to move to Ede at the age of sixteen, upon the death of his father. Showing a rebellious streak at an early age, he allowed himself to be drawn towards music.

He started his musical career in 1953 and had mentored other great musicians like Evangelist Ebenezer Obey and the late Orlando Owoh, among others. Known for his dexterity at playing the guitar, Rolling Dollar’s last major hit was “Won Kere Si Number Wa’’.

In 1957, he formed an eight-piece band called Fatai Rolling Dollar and his African Rhythm Band, and they recorded numerous seven-inch singles for Phillips West Africa Records. In this line-up was a young budding star, Ebenezer Obey, who played Maracas in the band. They had some hits with Phillips, then decamped to Jofabro/EMI where they recorded over one hundred and fifty singles and had many hits for the company including “Sisi Jaiye Jaiye” and “Won Bumi”.

After decades of struggling to make ends meet and musical doldrums, Rolling Dollar bounced back to life after the French Cultural Centre, in Lagos, brought him back into public consciousness. He later got a higher lift through Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while as Lagos State governor. The late musician was given a house in one of the low cost housing estates in New Oko Oba, Lagos. Juju music legend, Ebenezer Obey was among those trained by the late musician. Rolling Dollar, who had three wives and 16 children, died as the oldest surviving music artiste in Nigeria.

Do you know how many UNDISCIPLINED artists and sports men in America, especially blacks, have gone BANKRUPT and died wretched despite having earned millions $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Would you say they were also jazzed and bewitched by their aunts or some random enemies?
Again open your eyes and think.

I believe the bro/sis is open minded and has digested the point we all have made.

You see, we grow gradually in the Lord and, in this area of his life, the Lord will help him grow, just as He will help us grow in the areas of our own lives where we are struggling.

Thank you bro/sis for the contribution..

.I was thinking something similar to your response in my head before I read your response. As Christians, we are all growing in faith, grace and in all the other fruits of the spirit in order to be like Jesus Christ our Lord..Would we achieve it in our lifetime? Well, let's keep trying!

Now, if we are living to be like Christ and Christ says we should love our enemies..What would then happen if we decided to hate our enemies? Would we be obeying Christ? Would we be living for Christ? As Christians, it has to be clear for what and whom we are living!

See bro, your point is well articulated and well understood. I'm just seeing it.

One thing I want to bring to your attention is the fact that as believers, we are here on this earth to glorify God, and that is the very primary purpose why we're here. Everything else is secondary. I believe you already knew this. It's important to remember that as children of God, our destination is not this world, our destination is heaven...The ephemeral enjoyment that this fallen world has to offer cannot be compared to what is waiting for those who truly believed and lived for Jesus Christ on this earth.

Thus, if we as Christians are faced with having to choose between modelling every aspect of our lives in order to reap the eternal benefits in Christ or living our lives so as to enjoy the temporary benefits here on earth, I believe, and with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the former should be our goal. We cannot claim to desire Christ yet refuse to obey His major words in faith..

It is possible to enjoy on this earth and also make heaven, but we must do this in complete obedience to the word of God through Christ Jesus.
In order words, if enjoying the goodies of this world means disobeying the teachings of Christ (such hating on enemies and hoping they die), then such enjoyment is unimportant and unrequired.

Bro, we are all here to grow in our faith and not to pick arguments. If you refer to my previous submissions and particularly look at Romans 13: 1- 5, you will see why that statement was made. The statement builds on a previous submission.

God's authority can be manifested through any of his governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God and the authority that exits are appointed by God. No one says an usher is God, that would be blasphemous as you have pointed out. The point is that in a genuine, true house of God, our Lord Jesus Christ is the head and every appointment is made by Him and overseen by Him so that decisions are in line with His plan.

This is the point I have tried to make. If you disagree with this, say why and let's reach an agreement that is based on the Bible so we can learn.

Blessings.

Still A Christian, When Was The Last Time You Did Any Of These?

Some will say, it's not 'works' but 'grace'. The same Grace Jesus had yet He worked all day and night for His Father.

If you call yourself a "Christian" and haven't done some or all of these, 3 things are involved;

What I have highlighted is the bane of the matter.
There are almost NO "genuine, true house of God" today.
You may read the conversation of Jesus Christ (Prophet Isa to the Muslims) in John 4 with the Samaritan woman at the well for more insight to what I am saying.
Cheers.

Oh bro,

Our God through our Lord Jesus Christ is helping me. I've seen a noticeable growth in 2 - 7, and am still growing well. I have rather slowed down with 1 as the last time I engaged in this activity was about 8 months ago. I will pick it up again and by God's grace maintain the momentum for the long term.

My church hammers on things like this..In fact, we are all charged to engage in them!!
