4.5 km road at 1bnhuh Hmm. That's a whooping N220m per km, even NDDC roads are nt that expensive.

Back to topic, Anambra is very close to both Enugu and Asaba airports. So an airport in Anambra today is far from being priority. There should be more urgent infrastructure like roads, power and more industries before an airport.

That is you opinion and it will never stop what is already ongoing on ground! The airport is already ongoing in Anambra so device another means to stop it other than under the guise that surrounding states has it already.

Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport will be the busiest airport in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja. Good job Obiano for starting this Ambitious project that will stand Anambra out in Africa.

OBIANO FLAGS OFF AGULERI-OTUOCHA-UMUERI AIRPORT ROAD

Aguleri the fishing and agrarian community of Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State came alive with the flag off of the 8.5 kilometer Aguleri-Otuocha-Umueri Airport dual carriageway which the State government was constructing at the sum of N5 billion.

Anambra State governor, who also inspected the Aguleri –Uno oil rig road project, a 40 kilometer road and several bridges, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, reassuring the people of the State that the entire projects would increase economic activities in the State by the time the airport and the road projects are completed.

The governor, who was briefed by the contractor on the progress of the project, also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, which on completion would open up seven food producing communities in Anambra North.

While addressing the people after the inspection, the governor said the projects are in the interest of the people, especially the Airport project which when completed would have a depot for aviation fuel for international flights.

He announced a new partnership with a South African company that will boost electricity supply in the Omabala region and beyond.

The State Commissioner for Works, Calistus Ilozumba, said the state had secured approval from the Federal Government for the airport and had also acquired enough land for the project and therefore the road to the airport is very important.

The governor’s entourage moved to Nando From Aguleri, another food producing community in Anambra East local government area for the flag off of a 4.5 kilometer road, awarded at N1 billion.

The governor flagged off the project and assured the people that the contractors have been fully mobilized and the road is expected to be completed in one year.

Governors looking for ways to milk their state dry. Why can't they embark on investment in agriculture, education which the cost can be easily calculate

My dear, only in Nigeria.
The contractor will spend not more than 70m per km all things being equal #fact#.

However, I have not been to the area in question to know how the soil structure is but whatever it is, 220m per km is very high.

AreGbese case is special with the longest-runway airport while owing workers salary.
Who does that except a befuddled fridge repairer.

As a rejoinder to this publication: https://www.nairaland.com/2872621/aregbesola-inflated-airport-contract-n11.5bn#42080710

Femi Makinde, Osogbo

The Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has said he deserves commendation for building the Moshood Abiola International Airport at Ido-Osun, Osun State, for N11.5bn.

A consultant to the state government on information, Mr. Sunday Akere, who spoke on behalf of the governor, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday.

He said the contract was not inflated to siphon the state’s resources as alleged by the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said the increase in the contract sum was necessitated by the inflation caused by the fall of the naira.

Akere said, “The PDP in Osun should be ignored, they are just seeking relevance. They should find out how much PDP states like Akwa Ibom, Gombe and others built their airports.

“When former President Goodluck Jonathan was in power, he said he added an additional airstrip to the Nnamdi Azikiwi International Airport, Abuja with N36bn. We should be commended for building an airport with N11.5bn.

“If we are building a complete airport with a hanger and other facilities for N11.5bn, then we should be commended. The governor deserves commendation.”

Akere also said the initial cost of the airport was underestimated.

But the PDP accused the governor of increasing unilaterally the contract sum of the airport from N4.5bn to N15.5bn.

The Director of Media and Strategy of the Osun PDP, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, said this in a statement on Sunday.

The statement read, “We are aware that Governor Rauf Aregbesola, on January 8, 2016 through a letter with reference number SP/S96/1/vi/348 re-awarded the airport contract to the same contractor and a payment of N472m was paid as take-off sum.

“The same company had earlier been paid N2.7bn for the same project without any serious work done on the project.

The PDP also accused the governor of inflating the contract sum in order to embezzle the bailout funds it got from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The opposition party lamented that workers in the employ of the state were languishing in hunger as a result of unpaid salaries.

The party had said, “We are calling on the President and anti-graft agencies to send a secret team to the site of the so-called Moshood Abiola International Airport, Ido-Osun, to confirm what the government and the airport company had done with the N2.7bn taken from the purse of the state on December 14, 2012.

“Out of the amount, N2.5bn was sourced as a loan from a bank to be repaid monthly at N100m from the SURE-P funds. That loan is now part of the N88bn restructured for the state by the Central Bank for repayment till the year 2034 shocked.”

Anambra and Abia doesnt need any airport at this time.

Enugu Airport is only 30 mins away from heart of an Onitsha .

Asaba airport is 10 mins from Onitsha.
If the proposed airport is built in oba which is at least 45 mins from Onitsha . Most businessmen will still prefer ASABA airport with is literally across the pond.

Same for ABA. There are two airports within 30mins of ABA - Imo airport and portharcourt airport.
If the proposed airport is built in umuahia, owerri airport will still be closer to ABA business men and will continue to be preferred due to proximity.

I rather they plunge that money into other state infrastructure.

They can built world class hospital for a start.

Or a dubai class shopping mall and move their current dirty markets into malls.
Thank you so much... U just said my mind and u applied wisdom... People just think that building airport is like creating more state.. Let us think wise bro... U just made a nice comment

Please get Ur facts straight
Zamfara is NOT close to Kano or Jigawa
the closest states to Zamfara is sokoto 3 hrs from Gusau and maybe katsina which is about 4 -5hours

So investors come to a place because of airports

The question is not the distance but the economic viability of these airports. Nigeria doesn't need that many airport.

Re: 8 Governors Who Have No Business Building Airports by Naija9090:
On a serious note, Anambra, Abia and Ogun; all economic power house need airport. Let stop this nonsense of reasoning that because Abia is close to Port Harcourt and Owerri, Anambra is close to Asaba and Enugu, and Ogun close to Lagos that they need no airports? That's a stu$pid argument. If Anambra airport will affect Enugu and Asaba IGR, Abia affect Imo and Rivers IGRs, Ogun affect Lagos IGR, it's none of the business of Anambra, Abia and Ogun....they are looking after their own interests. Enugu, Rivers and Lagos should think about other ways of raising it's IGR.

Point of correction OP...Asaba already has a big, gorgeous airport. Probably one of the most tastefully finished airport by Nigerian standard.

Asaba International Airport pic below

There was a sampled opinion done on Rockcity F.M Abeokuta about dis topic and like 80% of the callers/contributors said OGUNSTATE dont need any airport for now,Amosun should do the rural roads,he cant finish the airport in 3.8yrs(so it doesnt end up like daniel's olokola project),the most he could do is construct an airfield at the current ewekoro site and when the wherewithal come the coming administratn could facelift it into an airport.i only wonder wat happened to the tran-southwestern railline proposed last 2yrs ago?
Re: 8 Governors Who Have No Business Building Airports by Nobody: 8:33pm On Mar 22, 2016
Why not use the funds instead for more pressing. issues like power, water supply, improving tertiary education...? No be money dem go take power and maintain the airports?

[s] Weep all that you want but Anambra International Cargo Airport is already under construction. Anambra International Cargo Airport is being built at Otuocha which is central to the major cities of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi.

Anambra International Cargo Airport will also serve as a hub for ATK in West Africa where planes from all over the continent will land to refill due to nearness to the Orient Petroleum.

Anambra is developing 3 worldclass malls in our major cities while that of Onitsha is due to open to customers next month. [/s]

Take your worthless advice elsewhere because it is dead on arrival.

You don't have to conclude the way you did. Try to be a little more civil. There's no hate in what the guy said. He was only giving out his opinion.

I trust you can do better that what you did.
