I had a pretty funny experience with a frustrated scammer

After applying for siwes jobs countless online I decided to move around in my locality

I saw an advert for cleaner needed at shoprite in enugu pay 20k. I called the no to make an inquiry. a male voice picked the call he asked me of my location I did, then he told me to come meet him in front of a bank immediately. I went there and called him am there already.

when he got there, he was busy on phone bragging about how he's big in what he's doing and co

after 10 mins on the phone he told me about the job its something of a cleaner that is shift that where's my CV and school cert, I told him I didn't come with any

That's when the wahala started, he started shouting why didn't I come with it that any way I will go and get it and why coming back I should bring a 1500 for registration. that's his way of trying to help me. I told him I don't have such and besides am seeking for a job

funny enough after bragging he told me to reduce it to 1k I said no way that let's do it this way that after he get me the job I will give him a 3k

he said no that he needs right away after I constantly said no to him . he said ok I should go and bring my CV and call him
My fellow nairalanders guess what I returned calling him countless times but he didn't pick up

I called him with my second line then he picked up telling me he doesn't know where he kept his Phone

am wondering why are people like this . I just pray God help us with our heart desires

But u sef, why will you go for a prospective job meeting without your credentials? And who meets a prospective employer in the front of a bank and not an office. Sometimes we are our own problem undecided

it wasn't a job meeting cos I wasn't detailed

for your second ques that particular area has offices around so don't judge me that way cos am tired of travelling around just to see a GNLD job

first of all I wasn't detailed so don't call it a job meeting and secondly when you have been a victim of GNLD scam you should know how to conclude

Let's all hope we don't fall into such subtle scheme by scammers because the way I see it, if she were so desperate for the job paying 1k would have meant nothing.

I did read the story well and you have a point. But the company is shoprite not just any other corporation, surely they have some procedures in hiring even cleaners. I don't know abt others but it would be wierd to me if someone who claims to represent shoprite (prolly its hrm) asks me to meet him outside a bank and not in an office.

Yea, the meeting point is shady but then, I wouldn't even call a number on the wall pasted anywhere for a job, not one like shoprite for that matter. It's all good sha, OP has seen a different shade of scam deals.

If she brought her CV to discover it is one olodo that one go pain pass. And giving him the CV is waste of paper he can even share it to other scammers that will bombard her line with fake interviews. If it is not a "popular" company I don't go with my CV so I won't be tempted to allow it fall into the wrong hands. Your CV has your address also so treat it with care.

Most companies don't have any procedure for hiring cleaners because most companies actually don't hire cleaners. The job is outsourced to a cleaning company who then hire and train the cleaners for the main company.

Yea I know and the companies outsourcing the job doesn't let prospective employees know what company it is they'll be working for so the advert itself was shady, the op would need the info more, yh?
