Recently a friend asked me this question and I was blank.

Jesus was crucified on Friday and resurrected on Sunday. At death, the spirit leaves the body and goes for judgement.

This means that His spirit left His body on Friday and returned on Sunday. I believe His spirit was in heaven. This is because of the following....
1. Jesus told the thief "today you would be with me in paradise"
2. He committed His spirit into God's hands and God is in heaven.

However, quite a number of pastors believe His spirit went to hell to defeat Satan.

Pls share what you believe with biblical proof. This is an opportunity for me to learn and deepen my faith..

He was in hell to take the adamic authority from satan. That was where 'he made an open show of them' came In. triumphing over the, demons were begging him.

Let me answer you in a simple way. Your friend has forgotten that the whole sin of the world was put on Him so as to descend to the prison called hell and set captives free, defeating death and hell itself. He was sinless but if the sin wasn't put on Him, He won't have been able to descend. That 'Today' is another word entirely...it is a coded spiritual term which wasn't really the actual day Jesus was crucified. It was the day of TODAY (That was the day of a new beginning for mankind) which was mentioned in Hebrews and made the Adonnai- the controller of all things. THat was the day He was announced as 'GOD' in Man (Flesh)- HEBREW 5:5.
