Many SEALs are surprisingly small guys. Or rather, they're not the shape of bodybuilders. If you get good and solidly drunk, at first size-up, it's not unreasonable to think you can take him. I once saw a couple of SEALs quietly resolve a dispute in a bar. He was unbelievably drunk and did not know who he was fucking with, so he came over mouthing off and they just ignored him. Eventually, they invited him to sit down and have a drink with them. He initially refused, but they sat him down. Not sure what they talked about, but when they finished their drinks, the SEALS led him to the door, slammed him into the door, opened it, and tossed him out. Again, this was quiet stuff. Subtle. If you weren't paying attention, you might have missed it. No big production about it. The loudest part was the (probably intentional) door slam. I once had the chance to spar with a retired SEAL-turned-MMA-fighter! This guy was an excellent boxer and an Olympic alternate wrestler with, at the time, a purple belt in jiujutsu that could have been black. That was near my peak as a martial artist, and after several thousand hours of training, there were some low-level pros in my gym that I was able to out-strike (but not out-grapple). I had definitely done well against a number of ripped soldiers of different types who just weren't amazing at hand-to-hand, but would have murdered me in any kind of real battle. So this SEAL was a different animal. I hit him with a hard side kick right away and after that he switched on, and immediately nailed me with a tricky head kick. He proceeded to outclass me, but I weigh 230, he is more like 170, and that prevented total domination. I hit him a few more times and he seemed to at least be wary. Afterwards he told me I was a "very accurate striker" and it's one of the proudest moments from my martial arts career. My goal was to test myself against a dangerous opponent and not change my game due to fear, and in a controlled environment, I did that. And it felt great. So yeah, in a street fight I could have died. More likely I would have ended up with a snapped elbow or some other terrible lifelong injury. Based on his stories, I don't think he would hesitate if he realized he was on the ground with a big guy who could, in the right circumstances, actually hurt him.
