Customs usually try to stop drivers for checking but this smugglers will speed pass then ..such that any custom office who stands in front is as good as dead.ccistoms will fire at will ..it happens in most country borders. .though I am not in support of the killing

i live in batagarawa and i havnt heared this news....

killing the driver is the last option and that only happens if another life is in danger due to his reckless driving. Dnt our customs av spikes? The guy cant run away. Police can radio another patrol team ahead to continue the chase till the driver runs out of fuel.
Our police need to watch hw real cops chase reckless criminals, arrest them and stil record the whole event which will later be use as police training on car chase. You.l see all these on Sonymax and C.I

I've a friend who z a customs officer he tells me of how they faces these faceless beast called smugglers everyday. sumtimes they r d first to open fire n if u're n officer u'll run and hide bcuz wat u're holding z a stick ryt? am nt justifying d death of d driver but he might ve disobeyed orders n was mistook for carrying dangerous weapons. in d face of our security problem nothing should b regarded as mere issues bcuz everyone now z a suspect including u. if everybody keep on running n going without paying duties to d govt wat will become of our staggering economy? I am not very good in Hausa but from the little I understood from the person who shared the photos on Facebook(Zuma by name),a bus driver was shot dead in Batagarawa in Katsina for smuggling contraband spaghetti.Our Hausa readers should please explain.

I've sed it before and I'd say it again we've so killed so much in this country that human death doesn't move us any longer..... it's a known fact that our law enforcers kill at slightest provocation becos people like you are always present to justify their "trigger-happy" attitude.... a suspect is not yet guilty until proven so... I'm sure dead man didn't point gun at them thus his killing can not be justified... catch him alive and prosecute him, if can't catch him then you are not qualified to be an officer!!! u can only shoot to kill wen u are certain that he has a weapon on him.

Believe me, if this happen in Jibia, the mobs will response to those idiots. R.I.P to the death.

The reason a custom man is carrying a gun is to effectively notify you that if you do not stop you could be shot.

If you decide to not to stop you have given him a licence to shoot at you.

Having said that there is no indication that the driver was shot, it may be he died from the car crash.

Also even if a driver fails to stop customs officers should only shoot to kill as a last resort, they could aim for hands or tyres.

Knowing that armed robbers sometimes disguise as law enforcement officers may be reason some drivers do not stop and take their chances. I think we should all learn how to recognise genuine road blocks.

NOTE: I will not go too hard on the officer, especially if the Driver refused to stop and was trying to out run the Customs.

For all the officer knew, he may have been chasing after a Boko Haram Suspect or an IED carrier or a suspect smuggling Boko Haram fighters and Bomb making equipment and weapons into the country..


These are hard times we live in...
