Mysterious chimpanzee behaviour could prove they believe in God, according to scientists.

New footage of ritual behaviour by chimpanzees, taken and analysed by researchers, shows they may be engaging in spiritual practices - and could even believe in God.

West African chimpanzees have been captured on camera throwing rocks into holes in trees and engaging in other bizarre behaviour, where the objects they use are not being used as tools but as part of a perhaps ritualistic practice.

Laura Kehoe, a scientist from Humboldt University, Berlin, said she had "never seen anything like it" and that it "gave [her] shivers".

The discovery may help researchers piece together how human religious rituals started and developed, as the behaviour of the chimpanzees is incredibly similar to that which scientists think was exhibited by primitive human tribes.

“This represents the first record of repeated observations of individual chimpanzees exhibiting stone tool use for a purpose other than extractive foraging at what appear to be targeted trees,” the researchers write in their abstract.

“The ritualized behavioural display and collection of artefacts at particular locations observed in chimpanzee accumulative stone throwing may have implications for the inferences that can be drawn from archaeological stone assemblages and the origins of ritual sites.”

This discovery is made even more interesting by the fact that Indigenous West African people also collect stones at sacred trees in a way that the resarchers said looks “eerily similar to what we have discovered here”.

One of the researchers, Laura Kehoe, wrote about her experience for the Guardian.

She explained: "What we have found might be more symbolic than a male display, and perhaps more reminiscent of our own past. Marking pathways and territories with signposts such as piles of stones is an important stage in human history. Mapping chimps’ territories in relation to stone accumulation sites could give us insights into whether this is the case here.

No be everything una see for net na im una go come post for here, Kei144, this news is a veiled insult to ancient Israelites living in the wilderness of West Africa.

Monkeys were throwing stones at trees just like West Africans also throw stones at trees, the similarity in behaviour proves that they have common ancestry and even now still familial congeniality

They must both be worshipping God because throwing stones at trees is as foolish an act as worshipping God.

Kei144, I have interpreted your news for you.

hahahahahaha could that be the work of evolution? grin

Humans are now evolving past that primitive level while chimps are evolving into it grin

Chimpanzees are not humans. Humans were made on the sixth day with first class feelings, thinking .and
reasoning.

Wow cheesy Op tell me something..! Do you mean they have started performing religious rituals? shocked
Next will be - Chimpanzees using using fowl>goat>offerings, then man for religious sacrifice to their god.

I have to say. It takes a special kind of stupid to believe in evolution.

Chimpanzees cannot believe period.

Believing is a characteristic of the human spirit created in the image of God.

Lol agreed!!!

If only it was a "belief" though lipsrsealed

there is no need to "believe in" a scientific thesis, it is neither a dogma or doctrine..

It's still that same special kind of silly that makes one think it's a valid scientific theory as opposed to a thoroughly failed one.

For the umpteenth time evolution is not a belief but rather a hard scientific fact that has been observed both in nature and the laboratory.

I know you will still fail to comprehend that this time around and the only reason I'm even bothering to type this is for the sake of others.

Have you not learned anything from the hundreds of times your arguments against evolution have been torn to shreds by various people on these forums?

Some people truly are beyond reasoning with, apparently.

On your thread 'If Evolution Is Untrue', I wrote some facts that stand against your precious theory. You never bothered to respond to them. I'm still waiting for your response.

This is a lie. Universal Common Descent can't even be observed in nature and it certainly can't be seen in the lab.

I said that evolution has been observed in the lab.

DNA sequencing proves Common Descent.

It's no surprise. We are all primates. This further buttresses the view that we're genetically related to chimps. Evidence of evolution.

So sequencing DNA is observing evolution right ? Wrong. DNA sequencing assumes evolution beforehand. There's nothing about DNA sequences that shows a species begat another one.

Indeed. Jettisoning intelligent design for a theory that tells stories of how fishes became reptiles and apes became men. What a a storyteller.

You do realize that there is hard evidence for evolutionary claims, right? What evidence have you for intelligent design?

But you agree DNA test can be used to determine paternity, don't you? Biologists have simply moved further down that tree. You accept a thin branch, and then reject the boughs and stem. How smart.

The relative compatibility of genes across the animal classes are consistent with earlier assumptions that mammals share a common ancestor with fish.

We've seen countless examples of species undergoing great changes through breeding. (Eg: designer dogs)

Speciation, on the other hand has been observed experimentally in fruitflies.

So with this knowledge, it is easy to infer that over time, it should be possible for species to undergo divergent evolution, cross the species barrier, and still continue to undergo separate evolutionary changes over successive generations. We can then use DNA sequencing to find the closest evolutionary cousins.

This is just crap. Species no matter how much they change remain the same. Dogs are still dogs and cats are still cats. In light of this manifest fact it is foolish to insist on common Descent.

There is no hard evidence for.evolutionary claims. All claims of hard evidence are simply bogus.

No. They shifted their aim from paternity claims within a species to phylogenies across species. They are cut off different clothes. I can see the logic in sequencing DNA to determine paternity but there is NIL evidence supporting DNA sequencing to build evolutionary phylogenies.

It's a veiled insult to dehumanize Africans so that they can continue to take advantage of us.

Evolutionists believe that only Africans evolved from monkeys. The non Africans apparently evolved from other humans. There are white skinned monkeys, why don't white people evolve from them?

There may have been a little differentiation within species as a result of environment, nuclear or other forms of accidents. But evolution is more of a shaky theory than science. In fact, it's a philosophy.
