For me, I don't hide my opinion about things like this, I don't try to impress anyone or to be politically correct. I will allow you to bring up the ibaka sea project by Godswill Akpabio, you will discover the way some sections of the media propagated how unviable the project will be, they attacked and attacked the project to a halt.. now fast forward to 2016 a railway project was claimed to have budgeted for in this year infrastructure budget to a whooping sum of 60billion dollars.. choi! and the national assembly removed them because they are hindering the success of PMB (that's what they want us to believe)lol.. This same project was denied by Budgit.com at least they're somehow credible because they published the first budget when it was passed, stolen, padded and represented again (LWTMB! this budget don suffer what a funny country). Now looking at the attention diversion strategy the conspirators of this drama, actually wanted to put the masses against nass, and absorb PMB from the blame. now ask yourself, why did the newspapers report that the Nass removed those project, ? "Mind you the main target here is Calabar -lagos railway line" the reason is to divert attention and blame... Then on another angle, why is the railway line seem to be more important to calabar than to lagos? what and what have changed on viability of calabar/akwaibom to host sea port, but railway line by some sections of the media propaganda. The answer is simple, the railway line is a project that's aimed at diverting attention and those supporting it now, are supporting it because it's not a project that will give you (south south) economic independence, rather a parasitic one to lagos... why not use that same money to make all the coastlines viable for goods and services.. they will come and tell me how important the mirage railway line will be,but they'll never tell you same about ibaka sea shine your eyes! this project is a poisonous project aimed at diverting a lot of things not only attention!

Ibaka sea port. You can ask Jonathan and friends to fund that. $3 billion only. Just a tiny amount out of the over $150 billion they looted. Lagos - calabar is inconsequential to us and will lead to a destruction of our coastal fiona and fauna. We would rather have lagos -shagamu- ibadan - ife -akure - Benin to terminate at Warri. |

Obiagelli:How is Lagos - Calabar railway going to be different from the objective of 2nd Niger bridge. What actually changed? Why is the southwest aggressively against 2nd Niger bridge but favours the rail line? Hypocrites think the Easterners are still dumb. |

I am neither in APC or in PDP but i think APC should have concentrated efforts to link APC states and not struggling to PDP states with APC states |

oduastates: Despite the yearly allocation of several billions of naira for the construction of a proposed greenfield deep seaport at Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State by both the State Government and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) since 2011, the project has remained elusive, with no evidence of a port being built at the proposed site.Akpabio budgets billions every year for this invisible seaport. 1. Ibaka seaport is not in the FG gazette and there is zero FG budget for it. Meaning the FG doesn't know anything about this seaport officially 2. Akpabio budgets billions for this bridge every year with not even bush clearing or fence erected. Meaning Akpabio pockets free billions every year. |

Obiagelli:But even if they had money they wanted to spend for the pdp states at least they could use the money to complete second Niger bridge and East west road before coming up with a project that they are not sure they can complete on schedule. |

LadyExcellency:It's shameful the way you guys have reduced this Lagos-calabar railway to anothe SW vs SE nonsense. For Godsake, this project cut across states in the south west, south east and south south. It would ease the movement of people and goods across the entire southern Nigeria and you guys are opposing it just to spite the south west. If you hate the people of south west that much, do you also hate your brothers in the south south? The Northerners are united in promoting the Lagos to Kano rail line, we are here pulling down each other out of stupidity. I am sure it is similar mentality like the ones being displayed here that made law makers from the south to look away when northern law makers were cancelling the Lagos-calabar railway line and moving funds meant for it to that of Kano. Who gains from this nonsense at the end of the day? |

Obiagelli:@Obiagelli I would advise you not to bother engaging some of these people especially as it concerns the benefits of this rail project. I was engaged in an argument this afternoon and I was totally appalled at what I encountered. A particular character specifically argued that a coastal railway would add absolutely no value to Nigeria's economy and that on the downside, it would destroy the 'sea front view' (whatever that means). He also went further to claim that a coastal railway 'would kill people by accidents,' lamenting that the amount of road accident we have is already enough and we shouldn't be adding other sources of accidents. At first I thought I may have been 'seriously' conversing with a 'Musiwa' a.k.a becomrich, but then it dawned on me that the person I was conversing with was just a hardcore ipob adherent. 'Some' of these guys are hell bent on opposing anything from this government, irrespective of its benefits. Some also do not want any major developmental projects in the SE or SS just to justify their irrational prejudice against Buhari; you sometimes read statements like "Buhari should take his projects to the SW and north and leave the SE&SS alone." But then again, there are even some who specifically do not want anything that links the SE to the SW or other regions of the country. It would be an impossible task explaining to some of these guys with this mindset the importance of anything called a railway. Save your breath! |

Those who term this 'cal-Lag railway confusion' a conspiracy against the development of the SS by the SWners and the Northerners should understand this, no serious economical development project that can maximally boost the economy of any region has really been executed by the FG. Almost all the existing infrastructures that REALLY affect Nigeria's economy were built by those who founded Nigeria. Lagos sea/air port, existing Lag-Kano railway, Lag-Ibadan express, Benin-Sagam express... If we've had reasonable and dedicated government in Nigeria, minimum of 4 of the country's 8 coastal states would have seaports. There would be to and fro railway in these connections below: 1. Lag-Sokoto-Maiduguri-Calabar-Lagos. 2. Calabar-Abuja-Sokoto 3. Lagos-Abuja-Maiduguri. As much as I agree with the OP that a deep seaport is very well needed in the SS, Lag-Cal coastal railway line is not less important. |

seunmsg:If I may ask, whose fault is it that the said "fictitious" project was removed? Why is the Southwesterners trying so had to blame the Easterners? Let the truth be told, the colonialists built the railways with the same purpose and objective as this Lagos-Calabar rail line. If you can decipher why the colonialists developed Nigeria railways then, you have my answers. |

Obiagelli:N60b is not enough to construct more than 800km of rail way line else where between Abuja and Kaduna they are proposing N140b ,if the second niger bridge was captured in the budget the federal government can as well use money to support and supplement the N17bn that is not enough to complete the bridge However, aside having a major cut of about N8.8bn in the Presidency’s original figure with purchase of vehicles receiving the deepest cuts, the new version has provision of N17bn for capital expenditure allocated to Niger Bridge at Asaba-Onitsha in Delta and Anambra States. However, there was no such provision in the first version submitted to the National Assembly http://thewillnigeria.com/news/national-assembly-gets-revised-2016-budget-as-buhari-budgets-n17bn-for-second-niger-bridge/ |

PRXPERT:You bigots have no shame I swear. How is this rail project about Yorubas being cunny? Why you guys are trying desperately to destroy a project that will benefit all southerners is what I don't understand. For your information, the Lagos-Calabar coastal railway project was conceived and designed by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. The PMB administration only saw the sense in the project and decided to continue with it. It is not a Yoruba project as you are desperately trying to portray it. Cross River is a state with huge tourist potentials. Making the state easily accessible to almost all parts of southern Nigeria through high speed rail is a project that should not even cause any argument. How can you develop calabars tourist potentials if people can't access the state easily? And please, stop comparing the ibaka sea port with the railway project. They are two distinct projects meant to serve different purposes. Both are desirable and one should not be cancelled for the other. Any reasonable person from the south south should support the Lagos-calabar rail project and still push for the Ibaka sea port. Calling for the cancelling of the rail project because government is not finding the sea port project is simply crass. |
