grandstar:You can seemingly defy economic laws and win as long as you have a proper grasp of the variables. Malaysia rejected IMF recommendations and came out spectacularly on top.The keyword is vision and genuine understanding of the local variables. There is no quick fix for the Nigerian problem, we are actually talking about pushing the reset button here |

...expect it is going to be mutually beneficial and eventually, we will be talking to China about importing some of its own items from Nigeria so that the trading balance can be reduced. Will Nigeria benefit from this? I want to say Nigeria will benefit from it and put less pressure on the dollar and reserve.” So, we never even discussed this most important aspect in any trade agreement? Ridiculous! |

Lol, Nigeria.... we are our own problem, we tend to forget easily. I don't understand how corrupt ex-officials who are all above 60yrs would change party 1 year to election and automatically they become saints. PDP lost the last election because the Northerners felt cheated, they got the collaboration of the South-West and booted the last administration out. There is no administration without corruption. Corruption started way before PDP came into power but the APC which were formerly part of PDP now showed Nigerians what was really going on behind the scene. The coalition was not about change, it was just to take back control. The painful part is that we will be stuck with them for many years to come because I don't see them handing over power to any opposition even if they were to lose the election. Anyway for I and my family we've checked out of this God forsaken country. |

So emefiele can't tell us exact amount to be swapped & d interest rate & duration? Is the swap deal another moonlight tale or another epistle the presidency will refute later? From all the jargons he spoke that is the only part that seems of a short term solution yet its shrouded in secrecy as if its an occultic agreement where t&c are not to be revealed. That prophet predicting 2018 should better go and start a church & resign as the CBN governor cox we need technocrats not prophets in CBN affairs. |

It's obvious things would b better in 2018 cos the following year is 2019 election. They know Nigerians have short memory. After 2019 election, things would be worst again. I know for sure d APC Govt would work better in 2018 just to deceive us and win election in 2019. Nigeria wake-up!!! I've known this b4 now. APC don't have anything for Nigeria. They're the same thieves. |

I wondered how many Nigerians will be alive by 2018 to witness the economic boom promised by Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele with the present state of economy. Why wait til 2018 when hardship occasioned by your mismatch of fiscal and monetary policies and policies directionless would have greatly reduced the population? Tunde Braitwait has gone, Elushi has gone ,and thousand of Nigeria killed daily by hunger, Fulani armed herdsmen and accidents on the road etc. Who will remain with no electricity, no fuel, no work, no forex for transactions? Godwin Emefiele stop deceiving Nigerians. |

Babalegba:Nigeria too has refused IMF recommendations before and gotten off unscathed. The IMF is not GOD but most importantly, why was Malaysia able to ignore the IMF? Malaysia's snob was well publicised because there were 3 countries in deep crisis then: Thailand where the crisis started from and Indonesia and Malaysia that got infected. It is referred to as the Thai contagion. Indonesia and Thailand had massive foreign short term debts while Malaysia was relatively free of foreign debt. It was in a better position to spun the IMF. The other 2 would need the IMF to bail them out of their foriegn debts even though many were owed by the private sector. Also, Malaysia has a very financial sector that is flush with a lot of credit. It is highly rated in this regard in Asia.So it had much stronger buffers than Thailand and Indonesia. As for Buhari however, the man does not know what he is doing. Stop praising charlatanism. You can't just wake up and set the exchange rate. It does not just fall from the sky. It is based on fundamentals. People do not like devaluations. That holds no water dear. Devaluations are symptoms of a problem and not the problem itself! Its like having headache caused by Malaria and you are only treating the headache. The headache will persist That is what Buhari has done. Though he has fixed the exchange rate, it has crashed at the black market. You need to understand exchange rate that is fixed is an expressed promise that the FG will supply as much forex as required at that price. This the government has failed to do. This is a breach of contract. Also, the exchange rate is set by market forces. It is silly to think your forex income is declining rapidly and the value of your currency will remain the same. The joke is on him. Now, the forex scarcity is exacerbating the fuel wahala. There is no forex for private marketers to import petrol and augment government efforts. Also, with Nigeria bordered by CFA countries where petrol is smuggled to, the devalued naira makes it ridiculously cheap there and super lucrative to smuggle across like never before. The local price in naira is probably half the price it was in CFA last year. The economy is doomed! |
