Go after facts not news. As a responsible citizen it is imperative that you know in detail what goes on around you so as to make informed decisions. Democracy is not exactly about shepherd and sheep. No leader is God Almighty.
Re: Nigeria, China Currency Swap Won’t Fix FX Demand Backlog-Businessday by Curvinus(m):
The currency swap deal simply means we are transferring our dependence on the dollar to the yuan and basics economics is very clear about what happens when demand exceeds supply. It leads to scarcity aka scarcity of the yuan in a few years from now.

Now everybody is saying we need to export to balance our trade deficit. But the point is we're yet to satisfy our local demand for these commodities let alone exporting to other coutries.
Electricity and gas are good examples here.

We are so fixated on having a stronger naira when in fact we should be concentrating our efforts on industrialisation to boost our local econnmy and create jobs for our people that will positively impact on the economy.

I do not see how the currency swap deal which seeks to enhance the over 70 percent import dependency on CHINA will solve our problems.
If anything we will simply have more business men renting shops and selling made in China goods. We forget there needs to be people getting paid in the production sector to patronize the sellers in the first place.

China is merely dangling a carrot at us that would see their people working and getting paid while we languish in poverty and unemployment in exchange for some shiny piece of chinese polished silver. Everybody will be selling made in China goods but where the money will come for the patronage of these goods is yet to be explainf?

Why should we encourage a policy that allows us to continue importing tiles from China when we have precious stones in abundance in Nigeria and able hands that should exploit these resources for a living?

Are we saying we have given up on producing even the basic necessities of life like shelter?

Buhari needs to rethink his economic policy to really give us the change he promised.

The FG has pegged the naira at N197-N199 per dollar since March last year, and restricted trading in foreign currencies, making imports more costly and the parallel naira rate plunging to near N320 per dollar.

Nigerians always get things wrong. A currency swap is done majorly to make transaction between countries easy. Of course it comes with other advantages but that doesnt mean it wud stifle local production because as u know the CBN wud definitly place som certain conditions on most of this transaction dealings.

And for people like Seun dat don't understand alot of raw materials in our local manufacturing industries are gotten from China. So, dis deal doesn't necessarily mean the Govt wants to squander money and if daz wat dey plan on doing they will hv less time to win our goodwill back seeing dat dey hv very little time on their hands now to win most Nigerians who voted for them in d last election over. Buhari n APC cannot rili afford that.

To my own perspective not viewing it from a myopic view, the same problem we are shying away from is what we will face sooner or later in days to come, give it two years the price of yuen will also increase in the international market, why can't we Nigerian take the pain and develop our great nation so as to strengthen our currency by trying to be independent in some crucial areas of our economy, must we run up and down just to feed our great nation, must we change currency like chameleon all in the name of good exchange rate, it's time we secure the future for our unborn children.....

“The agreement we have with China will not solve our problem in the LONG RUN . The only solution for us is to start EXPORTING . We must increase our exports to China if we are to have a substantial amount of yuan in our reserves,” Ayodele said.

It's not a debatable issue, this is common economic theory, and no big deal.
The fiscal/monetary policies in place still makes importation not so attractive.
Moreso, it's not even an issue of governance, it's an issue of interest. If national interest more than outweigh self interest, if posterity is prioritized over prosperity by the Nigerian business moguls, I would like to think, we actually can get it right.

The currency swap deal with China has, is and will always be a necessary condition.

God bless Nigeria!

And when eventually you drop the Yuan won't the Chinese 'go after you'.

Why not develop your own country so that it is us doing the bullying rather than jumping from bed to bed and it starts by being responsible both in words and deeds. This seeking of the easy way out, 'swapping' instead of working is not helping. Whether Yuan or Dollar, if you are not exporting you are done. I even prefer the dollar because there are many things the West at large won't sell to us, whereas China is the source of the toothpicks, rubber slippers and knockdown biscuits. Making trade easier with China is another nail in our coffin. We hate the truth that's why we hate the IMF, but let me see how we will take loans from China and shut their cheap knock-offs from flooding our markets. Our industries cannot price compete with the west, is it the Chinese industrial King Kongs we will overcome?

Don't mind them. Doing financial kalo kalo instead of working. As I speak to you the various Ministers are busy locked in countless meetings with 'contractors' on how to share the coming budget in a quest to build infrastructure. The bulk of these firms are either internationals, multinationals or blue chip (I have good intel), whom are the greatest consumers of fx so expect even more downward pressure on the naira and more inflation when appropriation finally commences. Incidentally at the same time Nigeria looks for money to 'pay off' her massive army of youths for doing nothing. Why can't the government put two and two together and engage this army to build its infrastructure.

Yes u made a good point but u also have to know that some people in Nigeria manipulate the dollar that is why it sky rocketed abnormally so I think they new deal will reduce pressure on the dollar and for a while allow nature to take it's course. The truth is that Nigeria has a consuming economy and it will take a long time to fix.

Why is this government withholding full information about this China currency deal / swap from Nigerians?

You can only contribute objectively if you have full details about the deal.

Until we start getting sincerity and seriousness from APC government, all locomotive analysis and praises can continue.

God bless Nigeria.

I remember HITV was chasing people using it for viewing centers around at a time like that! but DSTV never did that, thank God NITEL is not here during sim registration palaver , those boys would have been blocking peoples line requesting for money to reopen it! i can bet it, Mtel will not go far, where is PHCN today? where is NNPC ? nothing work in Nigeria , I am sorry to say!
the truth is better!!

The China deal will even widen the parallel market gap.

So I can buy 500K yuan through CBN for 15Milliona naira at 30 naira per yuan, then I convert my 500K Yuan to 77,360 dollars in Chinese FX market. Then I return to Nigeria to sell my 77,360 dollars at 315 naira per dollar and that gives me 24.4Million Naira.

Guess what, I just made 9.4Million naira profit on my 15million naira just from round tripping. The Yuan arrangement is crap for the economy but good for smart businessmen

1. Before the setback, most places were experiencing 12hours + with our less than 5,000MW.

2. We have between 6000-7500 MW transmission capability . . . which can be improved on in the short term (nothing to be proud of, but that can be made to work in 20 days if there are no saboteurs).

3. IPPs and Industrial powered estates can be implemented on the short run . . . basically, power, generation, transmission and distribution laws will need some amendment.

4. If words we're hearing regarding the Mambila project and other solar, gas, and coal projects are true, then we're on the right path.

I agree with the rest of your comment.
