I laugh at the ignorance displayed by many emotionally clouded Nigerians who are against the grazing bill proposed for the Fulani cattle rearers in all states of the Federation. Let's remember that like every other Nigerians, the Fulani's have the right to live and do their business in any part of the country. It is their constitutional right as Nigerians to own grazing fields in any choice location of the country so far it is paid for or provided by the government. We ought to applaud the move made by the federal govt because it will help in ending the unnecessary violence between the Farmers and the Herdsmen. By provision of grazing fields, the fulani's will be restricted to graze on an apportioned land provided by the federal govt. It will be a crime for them to graze their cattles on people's farms once the bill is passed into law. We should not castigate every fulani herdmen as killers because of the few bad ones among them. The incidence in Agatu and other parts of the country were perpetuated by cattle rustlers and not Fulani herdsmen. Cattle rustlers are armed terrorist who steal cattles from herdsmen and graze them around the country as a cover up for their terrorist acts. The ordinary Fulani herdsmen are peaceful people and will never harm innocent Nigerians. The fulani's do not move around with weapons but sticks to guide their cattle. I observed most critics of this Bill are from the eastern part of the country. The igbos need to realize that the federal govt owns all the land and territories in Nigeria and it can decide on how it chooses to use every inch of its territory. The fulani's have every right to graze in the SE and there is nothing any one can do about it. It is their right as a Nigerian just like the igbos are the most travelled tribe doing business in every part of the country. We cannot decide to restrict all igbo traders to the east because of the attitude of few bad eggs amongst them likewise the Fulani's. Most Nigerians criticized the federal govt when they decide to create ranches and import grasses from Brazil to graze these cattles so the herder wont roam about. Now the FG is shifting plans to create a grazing site for the herders in every state which is not a bad move by all standards. We are one Nigeria and we must learn to tolerate ourselves and live in peace. We must shun the politics of hatred and tribalism. The Federal Government has no right to force people to sell their lands to the Fulani cattle men. When the ibos go to the north or Lagos to trade, they fund the shops and stores they buy with their own money. The owners of the Land be it 'Omonile or Idumota Landlords' have the option to agree to sell to the traders or not. The Federal Government doesnt give the ibo traders one kobo to enable them trade succesfully so why should my tax money be used to buy land by force for those cattle men.

If the Cattlemen want southern land to graze, let them raise money themselves and approach Nsukka or Asaba or Ughelli (etc) land owners and bargain for grazing land. Then Landlords or Land owners will either disagree or agree with (terms and conditions) if the money is ok for them.

Why should the Federal Government use oil money or tax money to buy land by force at whatever price they deem fit for a section of the country people and neglect others. Who gave them that legal or moral right. The ultimate plan here is to create fulani enclaves in southern Nigeria where they (the so called fulani herdsmen) will start building villages in the near future and invite their other folks in the north to come down to and reside. In other words we will have many populated and concentrated fulani villages and sttlements in southern nigeria. Soon they will start asking for their own local Government (All funded by the biased president).

IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Sunnycliff:
Let it be passed and see the end of this contraption!

As long as this bill is still alive I will continue to share my findings here for all to see, Read and be Wise!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GRAZING BILL

The Bill creates a council to be chaired by a Chairman to be appointed by the president.

The council shall have the power to take your land anywhere the land is located in the country and then pay you compensation.

Your land, when taken, shall be assigned to herdsmen who shall use your land for grazing purposes. They shall bring cows to the land and you shall lose the land permanently to those Fulani cattlemen.
If you feel that the council was not right to take your land, you can go to court but before you go to court, you must first of all notify the federal attorney general of your intention to sue the council. Apart from notifying, you must get the consent and authority of the Federal Attorney General before you can sue.

So that means that if the Attorney General refuses to give his consent to the suit, you have lost your land forever to the herdsmen.

And this law, when passed, shall apply to the whole country so it means that your land in the village or anywhere is not safe.

The National Grazing Reserve Council would have the power to take away your land from you anytime they want and pay you whatever they want as compensation (even when you don't want to sell, and remember that for you to get compensation, you must have documents showing or proving ownership).

So I think that we all in the South West, South South and South East must rise up and reject this Bill. We must do all things to force our national Assembly members from passing that bill into law.

That bill is a deliberate attempt to take our lands and hand the land over to the Fulani cattlemen since it is only the fulanis that rear cattle in Nigeria.
That law, when passed, shall fulfil the directive of Uthman Dan Fodio and other northern leaders to take over other parts of Nigeria.

I implore you to use all available means to implore your senator and Rep not to pass that law.

That law will destroy Nigeria.
All over the world, ranches are established and used to rear cattle. The farmers buy land and put there cattle there. There is no country where the land of the citizens are compulsorily acquired and given to others.

This is evil, and designed to favour the Fulanis where the president comes from.
We must resist the passage of that bill into law to save Nigeria, and to protect our future generations.

Emperor Ogbonnaya
You're wrong, but it will be good to hear your solution too. It's easy to criticize anything and everything, what's your idea or plan of solution please.
Re: National Grazing Bill Still Active In National Assembly - Vanguard by Laid2001: 11:19am On Apr 21, 2016
The Fulanis will always transport their cows by land enroute places and they surely need to feed those cows along the way.

1. It will surely help if FG can chart approved route for the Fulani herdsmen across the nation.
2. Once these is done, everyone will then be aware that the cows are restricted to the approved corridors.
3. Due to the consequence of these approved corridors on the farm lands along these corridors, the FGN will need to compensate the farmers along these corridors.
4. Lands along these corridors can still be used for things other than farming. things that can not be destroyed by the cows. Even some cash crops can cohabit with the cows.
5. Any farmer or land owner who does not want relocate his farm away from the corridor, should be left alone. But should be made to realize that, the security of his crops is left to him.

These will cut out this incessant clashes between the farmers and the cattle rearers. Atleast people outside the corridor will have peace of mind and those that falls within the corridor will have free manure from the cows and be left to take inform decision on what to plant.

But we can not continue with the current situation whereby the Fulani herdsmen are everywhere and there is no clarity on where they are supposed to pass through.

Cattle rearing is a private business venture. It's not done on behalf of the Government. So like every other private venture if they want a land they should negotiate and pay for it.

P.S. Come to think of it, do these herdsmen even pay tax? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Sambisa Forest.
Area: 60,000 square kilometres (23,000 sq mi)
Enugu state of Nigeria is 7,161 square kilometers (2,765 sq mi).

Nigeria's problem:
Nigeria needs grazing field/land for cattle owned by Nigerian leaders. Our hard working minister of agriculture is importing grasses from Brazil and will need where to plant the grasses and feed our all important cattle.
We have also flushed out Boko Haram terrorists from Sambisa forest so there is no threat again. Or haven't we?
......................................
Is there any reason known to man why we shouldn't convert Sambisa forest to a national grazing field and gather all the herdsmen in Nigeria to that place, disarm them and allow them to use the facility and transport their ready for sale cows by rail or trailers to wherever needed?
Why should we make laws to compel places like Enugu State Government to provide land for grazing when we abundant land at Sambisa?
Convince me that those seeking to appropriate other people's land for grazing, whereas they have more land, do not have other sinister motives.

Please no long grammar, just convince me and I will be. Just wan make common sense.

Dat guy up telling me story about cattle rearers and rustlers should STFU. The grazing bill should be granted cox cattle rearing is now oil that after being sold will be used to feed all Nigerians. If the Fulani want land let them pay for it and use it not hiding under a bill to get lands free because their brother is the president. D guy saying its the south east shouting against d bill should tell d FG to give trade rights involving land in all parts of the country to easterners.

Lord Luggard saw the potentials in our diversity before merging us up to form this great country. We must not allow ethnicity to cloud our sense of judgement when the federal govt proposes law that will favour every Nigerian. We must support the grazing bill so the Fulani's can do their business in peace. BTW i am a Yoruba man from the SW. proudly Nigerian cool

I don't believe that you are a real yoruba guy.How dare you support a law that would systematically enslave you in your ancestral home.We must not mistakenly sell our birthrights because of political affiliations.
We must be resolute and speak with one voice or else the aftermath would be disastrous.

“I decided to read a copy of the National Grazing Reserve Council Bill and I was surprised at what I saw.
The National Grazing Reserve Council would have the power to take away your land from you anytime they want and pay you whatever they want as compensation (even when you don’t want to sell, and remember that for you to get compensation, you must have documents showing or proving ownership).
We must resist the passage of that bill into law to save Nigeria, and to protect our future generations”
Shared as received!

Call your senators not to pass that Bill.
why dump this Copy and Paste trash on this tread..the Bill is not in the Senate

You're wrong, but it will be good to hear your solution too. It's easy to criticize anything and everything, what's your idea or plan of solution please.
The solution is to knock off any feeling of entitlement they may have. The bad behaviour stems from the fact that they know they can misbehave and get away with it. The average Nigerian Citizen doesn't have a right to carry guns or dangerous weapons. Why should they (Herdsmen) have? Pipeline vandals destroyed pipes and have been branded terrorist (rightly so). These Herdsmen destroy lives and properties why shouldn't they be called terrorists? Rather the Government wants to reward their brash acts by giving them lands they didn't buy. Are the cattle owned by the government? Are they not private ventures? I doubt they even contribute to the economy by paying taxes.

First, all dangerous weapons should be seized. Any of them caught in possession of such weapons should be arrested. Next, the president should make a strong-worded statement that any violent herdsman will be treated as a terrorist henceforth. You'll see them behave

....citizens shouldn't have monopoly over others. territory belong to host community. if the Fulani need one then they have to rent and pay for it. there is no free land to citizens who are criminal minded to have territory awarded to them in host communities. why will federal government award land in other territory to his kinsmen. it's time for people from the south to think with their head and stop all this laziness. there are many animals that is meant for consumption. we have sheep, goat. chicken and fishes. if we look within and start eating other viable meet the cattle herdsmen will be forced to leave. we have land for agriculture. I spent several years in middle east and they don't eat cattle's there. they are many other meats. southern state should think about selves sustaining means over agriculture to do away from this Fulani and northerners

Well if the bill lets the owner of the land to have the final say. If the bill lets the owner of the land to decide whether to sell or not to sell. If the bill makes room for proper compensation for those that opt to sell, I dont think its dat bad sha.
