Maximum units course in a semester is 24unit (though some transfer students get exception to register beyond 24units due to their workload), yes! you must complete a 12units special elective before graduating but on a good day, if you serious with it,it could be completed latest by your 1st semester part 2(that was when I completed mine),after registering you normal courses in your first semester part 1 which is just 16units,you'd still have space to register like 3 special electives and each of the electives is 2units, so you can fulfill 6units of the required 12unit by first semester part 1.

The breakdown of your next semester course unit;

MTH101--5 Units
CHM101--4 Units
PHY101--4 Units
TPD101--1 Unit
CHM103--1 Unit
PHY107--1 unit

Total of 16units.

When registering for your courses, make sure you exhaust the max 24units, you'll see the benefit in part2 as you'll have less headache on special electives.

Pharmacy students don't have space for electives in their first semester part 1, they have enough workload which consumes the maximum 24units, the breakdown for your courses;

CHM 101--4 units
PHY 105--4 Units
MTH 105--4 Units
ZOO101--4 units
BOT 101--4 Units
ZOO103--1 Unit
BOT 103--1 Unit
CHM 103--1Unit
PHY 107---1 unit

TOTAL 24Units.

But you'd have enough space for electives in your second semester.

Kunlexze, NiffyJay is kinda right, though TPD101 course title is 'Engineering and Society' and not 'Technology Policies', that's where you'll be thought the evolution of engineering (industrial evolution) and the impact on the society. the egl you're referring to is known as SER001/002 as NiffyJay has said, its a total of 4units(first + second semester), its a compulsory elective, though it doesn't reflect on your GPA but its a must pass and the secret of passing it is going to the class and have the attendance as you guys will only do the exam by second semester and your attendance + impromptu test covers 60% of it.
Having a good score in SER a times depends on your department's SER lecturer.

Special electives are courses you should offer in faculties that are not yours, there are about 8 faculties on campus and each faculties has there own electives.
The issue is some faculties take electives 'personal'(I mean they handle it like a core course) while some will make it fun for students and still give you a good grade(note: the grade doesn't affect your GP). As a matter of fact, once you're a able to pay(I think #600) and go for the trip of some faculties electives like SEA(faculty of administration) SEG(Fac of agric), you don pass am be that.
Well, as an incoming tech student, I'll recommend special electives like SEP,SEA,SEG,SEO,SEL. these are the ones i'm sure of, they won't threaten you with attendance and assignments, cos some of the electives classes will surely clash with your core courses and I can't imagine forgoing courses like MTH or PHY which is 5 or 4 units for one electives that doesn't add to my gp. Abeg, no try SEE(Education) for now oooooo.

Yes, I know Computer guys do one CSC cpurse in part 1 but I neither know the course code nor the course title but I think its 2units(not sure but I'll try and confirm for you). CSC is a course so it reflects on your GP. The CSC that covers whole of Tech will be in your part 2 and it will be a child's play for you if you already have a knowledge of Java programing language before then.
