The A-29 is a very effective counter insurgency fighter but I think Nigeria's Defense chiefs should start looking to the future,Nigeria's airforce is crap,at least Nigeria should buy some F-16 for godsake.Look at South Africa,Egypt,Tunisia,Algeria,Morrocco,Ethiopia and even Uganda they seem to have more formidable airforce than the economic powerhouse of Africa. |

IbnSultaan:This is SCAM! The American Govt is trying to SCAM Nigeria! Otherwise, why would they be selling a Turbo-Prop Aircraft to Nigeria, as Fighter Aircraft? With those Boko Haram using RPG's, they would just be downing this useless 1950's plane ......like flies! Is that what they have been selling to Israel and Saudi Arabia? If they cant sell us F25 or even F35, at least they should sell F15's Jet fighters to us. No country in the world today, uses Turbo-Prop Aircraft for fighting Wars! We better conserve our scare resources than waste it on some "Museum piece", World War 2 scrap that America is finding a way to dispose, so as to free space Lastpage! |

Buhari good job but we need a better 4 generation Aircraft too, SU-24/27, MIG-31 and Russian MI-21and Night hunter helicopter. A strong military is a strong country. We need protection from the sky. |

when I saw d topic I was excited, thinking we would be getting the F-16. I clicked and saw a private trainer. In this time and age we are still opting for such |

lastpage:I thought I was the only one that spotted the discrepancy. NAF pilots would be mere sitting ducks in the air with those archaic turbo-prop aircraft. It's better Nigerian companies like Proforce, DICON, and possible INNOSON, be funded by the FG to produce attack helicopters, fighter jets and bombers. After all, the country can boast of aeronautical engineers in Western nations who can contribute their technical know-how in such a venture. The only impediment to such a program is the unreliable power supply. |

Kai!! Which way Nigeria ![]() Why are people celebrating? It's not as if we just acquired one wicked fighter jet...even Ghana and Senegal has the tucano in their inventory. And did I read the part that the aircraft would come with very basic configuration? The US will take our cash and hand us some obsolete piece of junk!! I'm wondering why Uncle Sam's so called Leahy law does not apply in this transaction. When are we going to realize that the earlier we look inwards, the sooner we become masters of our own fate? Haba Nigerians who have bewitched us?? |

So boko-hari wants to import more demons to his country Federa Republic North Nigeria (FRNN). I know only the cursed deal with each other. You can bring all the cursed men on the face of the earth but let them stay in your (FRNN). It is just an advice. |

Is Embraer not a Brazilian Company again?t Has the war not been won? Where has the US been all these while? Have they come to steal the hard earned glory of our boys? Bleep the Tucanos. We've cone this far without them, our Mushaks, will do the job. Let NAF conclude the deal with the Pakistanis for their JF series Block II engine with full tech transfer, and possibility of joint assemblage her in Nigeria. Let's not politicise our military abeg. |

CSTR2:the same weapon america gave nigeria, just watchout, america wil give same weapon to boko haram, remember, there are 6,200 american special ops agents in 26 locations in africa, some of them are covertly arranging logistics for boko haram, fulani herdsmen from mali and other nearby countries, i av studied boko haram logistics and operations, american special ops agents & CIA are behind it. thats why they are called "special ops agent". some of these team of special ops get their funding via d black market, bcoz d purpose of d fund is for terrorism. it must not be traced. |

Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia and even Eritea all have 4th generation aircrafts in their inventory already. I would be happy if we can get F-16's, F15's, F-18 hornet instead. Anyway thanks to US. |

Nigerdeltaboi:Double standard, yes I agree. The craft in no way near some the best in USA. Why not F15 or F16 like those ones given to Iraq? And they know fully well that Boko Haram has killed more than ISIS evidently. |

First of all what is needed in this case is a powerful, highly maneuverable attack helicopter like Ka 52 alligator not some fake, highly priced, over hyped U.S junk like Apache copters. We don't need this crap except if the same hypocrite U.S have decided to re-supply more sophisticated weapons to their proxy forces boko haram via their permanent and temporary puppets , Wahhabi Saudi Arabia/takfiri/mujadeen terrorist institution. It's not new thing that the Empire of lies have long been looking for how to install a base in Nigeria to contain China in west Africa. Ghana has agreed to this but only Nigeria refused. So it's part of U.S interest to see Nigeria destroyed and it's the reason they predicted 2015. They did not predict, they planned for 2015 but failed. And this is the major reason they decided to include Nigeria in the leahy law, banning the sales of arms so Nigeria will not contain their proxies. I don't even know why Buhari is playing with the devil here. To dine with the devil, you need very long spoon. If there is one thing we need now, it is Ka 52 flying tank which is by far better than apache but not these junks from the empire of lies, empire of debt, a falling or dieing anglozionist empire. |

Cheap propaganda, they haven't even approved the sale. I don't think the sale will happen. The US never sell us fully operational army equipment. It will take 3 to 4 years to get the aircraft even if we want to buy them. There is no provision in the 2016 budget. lets say we make an order in 2017. They will have to make the aircraft. Our pilots will have to train on them. We are looking at maybe 2020 for delivery. We are facing the Boko Haram threat now in 2016. We have already made plans to get JF17 aircrafts. Nigeria will sign a deal with Russia next year to get the SU32 multirole fighter jets. Our pilots are already training on the new aircrafts. We have been working on this deal since 2014. America is not going to manipulate us to cancel the existing deals for a fictional Tucano sale to Nigeria. |

lastpage:that it is turbo-prop aircraft doesn't meant it is bad. It is good at what it is meant for. Infact, that feature, propeller, is what makes it good for the task it is meant. That it has a propeller is the reason it can fly slower and lower and serve as the best close support option for troops in combat. With its guns, it can burst tanks in battle and tilt the war in favour of its ground troops. I think the Isrealis and the Saudis have the A-10 thunderbolt, which performs the same function as this Tucano; they are Attackers! If the Isrealis and the Saudis need it, they will get it. Lastly, the super Tucanos are no WWII aircrafts; they were developed as a joint venture between the Americans and the Brazillians. You can read up on it. |
