The more reason why educated individuals should enter into politics. When I say educated: I mean educated, rational and intellectual individuals.

That's what Nigeria and other African countries need at this point in time. Example of such a country is Singapore.

The aim of education is largely defeated especially in a country as ours. We have a lot of educated people, Professors, Ph.D holders, MSc holders and graduates from different disciplines yet we still import almost everything we use, there's still gross disobedience to societal laws, there's gross misbehavior and unethical practices in our societies, etc the lost goes on and on.

I'm an advocate for education, however I believe more that it's should be evident in our lives first as individuals and secondly in our society at large.
I totally agree with the OP. Education is a vital tool in the life of an individual. While education includes schooling, it's is not restricted to schooling. Schooling is just a part of being educated and not all there is to education. While schooling involves going through an organised system of learning of facts and acquisition of information and in the process developing one's mind to be able to think constructively and rationally and be able to apply oneself productively. True education is all encompassing, schooling being just a vital part of it.

A truly educated individual is one who can learn, unlearn and re-learn. One who is capable of a rational, constructive and conscientious thought, who can apply himself positively towards his own continual self development and improvement and can ultimately contribute meaningfully to the progress and growth of his environment. It's more of an enlightenment of the heart and mind than informing of the mind or intellect.

Going to school doesn't make you educated

Most people think one can only be eduicated if he/she attends the University. Op if you too share this belief, then you don't know the true meaning of education.

Many traders in onisha and Ariara market can't read and write but they are doing very well for themselves hence my argument that ability to read and write is not what education is all about.

The op was talking about education from academic perspective then I said that education is not everything.

Nice post, no education, no development. They erroneously equate the success of musicians to the success of a nation. Was it music that took America to where it is today?

Most people do not know that qualitative education is the greatest need of Nigeria.

I actually meant secular individuals. Religious minded people should please stay out of politics. Nigeria has that as a problem.

prioritise removal of colo-mentality
prioritise mum-ism of religious beliefs
priorities stopping mumu Nigerians from worshipping people who steal from them
prioritise the stopping of buying private jets for fake pastors
prioritise lack of family planning and population control in Nigeria

You will get more benefit from those priorities than yeye-education based on theory that does not advance Nigeria!

Learning, unlearning and re-learning reminds me of Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is, more degree less sense.

can you read? Yes, can you write? Yes, that is education.
That's literacy and Education entails more than that: your ability to influence your environment(positively of course), not just to read but to analyse information and data to make things work.

After all these so called education we get, our teachers/lecturers don't teach us how to be financially intelligent. In college they don't teach you how to overcome failure, the thing is we learn most about ourselves when we fail.
This is why our country is filled with highly educated poor people.
Real education starts right after college.

Op, I believe the Education you are talking about isn't sitting in a classroom with riff-raffs called lecturers who don't care whether you learn or not and at the end , they get paid for a job not well done. Most naija lecturers are bunch of waste in my humble Opinion. They're disgusting!

That's why there are so many problems in Nigeria. The politicians, the government, even the artist are not educated, and Nigerian's education system is very poor. Imagine how Nigeria will be or how far Nigeria will grow if education was a priority. Look at the countries in different part of the world that has good education system and how education is a priority, they have good economy and their country continue to fluorish unlike Nigeria that lacks education. The reason why most Nigerians act uncivilised or do things without reason or knowledge is because of the lack of education. Nigeria will continue to be the same or even get worse of the education system is not improved. Educated people = Better self and better Nigeria.

true....education is the best legacy
If that is totally true, why doesn't God emphasise it as one of or the only criteria to get to heaven or for a nation to be successful. The bible put it this way;righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people be they educated or not.
