The Argentine star is optimistic
about clinching the two trophies
that are at stake.
Leo Messi has his sights set on winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey, an achievement he says would be “spectacular”. In an interview with ESPN, the Argentine spoke of his disappointment at not retaining the Champions League, but conceded that “you cannot win it every year”. Nevertheless, Messi says winning the domestic league would be a
huge honour due to the level of
competition in the division “It is not easy to compete with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Villarreal and many other tough teams. Thankfully, we have our fate
in our own hands.” Messi is currently in a rich vein of
form, and scored his seventh direct
free-kick of the campaign against Espanyol on Sunday, taking his tally for the season to 37 in all
competitions. “It is something I work on and
look for the best way to improve,”
he said, speaking of his set-plays.
