fulanimafia:It is not that simple. But to me, GEJ losing was the best thing that happened. Not because he did not try a bit or because he was the most corrupt. No. IBB & Abacha hold that record. But because if things were half as bad economically as now, or Chibok girls were still not back, 9ja might be in flames by now. In any case, I believe in a single term presidency of maximum 6 years only. No need to loot money for re-election. GEJ did 5 years plus and that's enough. Remember that GEJ did more projects in the North. More universities, hundreds of Almajiri schools & boosted fertiliser supply & agric, etc. I cannot see what Southerners lost with GEJ out of power, or what Northerners gained in the 40 years Northerners have ruled. The main reasons are likely: (1) Nigeria has no proper bridge builders on both sides. Those supposed to build bridges rather burn bridges to consolidate oil wells, power, influence and ego. (2) Nigeria has a faulty structure. Something that surprisingly to me, Northerners don't see, because Northern elite (who like Southern elite are there for their own pockets) deceive them. The very diverse groups that make up 9ja don't have enough space for self-expression & development. North, East, SW & SS will all gain. The presidency need not do too much, with the current top-down system. The most developed countries are largely ones with a true Federal System: USA, Germany, Switzerland, increasingly UK, etc. When people feel imprisoned, they will increasingly want to break out. (3) Our leaders have no faith or hope in 9ja: so their kids go abroad for education, they fly abroad for medical care, they stash stolen monies abroad and buy up the most price inflated properties in the most desirable parts of London, NY, Paris, Potomac/Maryland, Marbella/Spain, Dubai, etc. With our money o. No genuine patriots. And more reasons of course. |

AreaFada2:First of all, northerners never ruled for 40 years, Jack booted soldiers trained to kill and destroy did. 1. The North and SW are in alignment economically and politically, some of the biggest businessmen in Lagos are northerners who have synergized productively with their SW counterparts (Dantata, Dangote, BUA, Otedola, Otudeko, Rahamanniya etc.) There is no problem with bridge building between the North and South, and the greatest political alliance in Nigeria today is between northerners and southerners (APC), however a fundamental problem lies with the unity of the SE with almost every other region in Nigeria. 2. What is the sense behind the statement that Northern masses are being deceived to not see a 'faulty' structure? How? That sounds like ****. Would the structure cease being faulty once northerners lose their political dominance (which itself is a product of southern disunity)? You amuse me. I have told you the source of the present disunity (which is really between the SE and the rest of Nigeria); sore losers that cannot digest the fact they their hero has been defeated by a northern candidate with the support of the SW, and frustrated by the repercussions of their choices which has made them politically irrelevant in this regime. |

fulanimafia:Northern political dominance to whose advantage? Worth is the value or use of it to the average Northern teacher or nurse in Sokoto, Birnin Kebbi. Bauchi or Zaria? Very little. Dominance is not what we need but a configuration that makes people do more for themselves. I see no reason why the governor of Sokoto or Akwa Ibom cannot be allowed to run the police force to secure his state. People at State level are closer to their people. Right now, we can accuse them of corruption, but they can blame central govt for their own failures. Because Fed has too much power, which it is incapable of dispensing properly. |
