ABUJA – THE Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC and the Trade Union Congress,TUC have resolved to proceed mobilise workers to begin indefinite strike, tomorrow over fuel hike.

The workers’ action, according to Vanguard source, is to take effect from 12 midnight today.

This was the resolution of the union at its National Executive Council,NEC meeting, held today,at the NLC headquarters in Abuja.

Although, newsmen, who waited anxiously to be briefed of the development at the meeting, were left unattended to,a source told Vanguard that the workers’ unions resolved to proceed on an indefinite strike, beginning from 12 midnight.

The source said the unions took the decision to mobilise workers on strike, after exhaustive deliberations on last week’s fuel hike by the federal government and the attendant consequences on the Nigerian workers and the general public.

“Our decision not to suspend the strike was further fuelled by today’s injunction by the Industrial Court, restraining us from proceeding on the strike expected to begin tomorrow,”the source who said.

He disclosed that the two bodies were still studying development and may not honour the meeting expected with the government at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation this evening.

Vanguard gathered that the factional NLC,led by the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees,Joe Ajaero, may not join the strike.

He had hinted yesterday that his leadership was not favourably disposed to embarking on the strike.

As at the time of filing this report, the leadership of the NLC and the TUC were yet to turn up for continuation of the meeting which was adjourned earlier.

The strike has died before its birth.

Sorry NLC and mourning mourners. Nothing for una.

The govt has asked you empty brains to come up with alternative to this deregulation instead of using the same line of "GEJ was not allowed to remove subsidy" but none of you has come up with anything reasonable. We're in different time and different situation economically from 2012.

If NLC leadership had any functioning brain, it'd be fighting for increments in workers salaries and not this lost cause. Besides, where was NLC when half of the states were owing five, six, and eight months salaries to their workers?

Useless set of toothless dogs. Una don jam person wey pass una.
why didn't you come up with this same reason during 2012 occpy Nigeria protest. Do you think the fuel increment wil change minimum wage? Hatred is really a burden ,low eye cue to those that practice it.

Are you really staying in Nigeria. How can NLC be fighting for increment in salaries when many states can't even pay the 18000 minimum wage and states like Nasarawa just announced 35% salary cut.

All Nigerians depend on fuel one way or the other. The same cannot be said of workers' salary.

Yet you want them to fight for increase in wages when some states are even struggling to pay the current ones & many are owing arrears and if they finally fight for another increase in wages how many Nigerians are working under the government?

A proper look at this whole situation on the other hand if it iz 4 d benefit of d masses on d long run, , wuld b better understood if the President wuld jst give a #Press Conference

I wondered when Nigerians will realise that the Government and Labour are just playing chess with Nigerians. You'll still say the same thing when the start fight for increased salary.

When you are defending try to be reasonable. You shouldn't be absolute because of buhari.
I'm far more reasonable than you. And if you doubt it, take up the challenge of providing alternative to subsidy removal that was not provided for in the budget. I know you always defend corrupt politicians though.

you meant this is what the govt has done, meaning the price could still be jerked up again. If this is the situation, we must all rise against any undue increment in price of petrol. Little by little it is going to N500 per litre
