Catfish Farming by Enough1980(op): 11:25am On May 18, 2016
Hi All,

Please i sincerely need help and advice here. I stocked my fingerling on Friday 14th of May 2016 and since then i have been observing the following:
1. few of the fishes like 10 at a time hang.
2. constant staying/swimminng at the top of water.
3. cant see any grow rate.

Is there anything i need to do?

Thank you for the update. However, how possible is it to change water everyday? I understand you cant change water when you just feed them and you cant feed immediately you change water. So changing water daily will aamount to feeding them once daily and this will also affect their growth. Correct me if am wrong pls.

Yes feet once a day does not affect their growth if you can feed to satiation, but as a beginner I wouldn't advice you to feed once a day. Water mgt in catfish farming is not what you can play with it if you don't want story that touch the heart.

Thanks Saheed! I actually experienced this today: I got home yesterday at about 8pm, met the fish all at the top of the water looking weak. I had to release the water and fill with new one. I also didnt feed them know that they might not eat because of the stress, but this morning i met about 40 dead and the other didnt not eat though were not hanging because i can see that they were a bit active. Pls what do i do?

hmmmm sorry about that, your water mgt is poor and when that happens things like this is the result. You have to treat them for bacteria, get any anti bacteria drug and salt to treat them. Drain out the dirty water completely, add little fresh water to ankle level and apply the drug and the salt. Leave them till the next day (don't feed them till after treatment) then fill up the pond, then u can now feed them in the evening. I don't know the size of ur pond or the capacity so I can't tell the quantity of the drug to use.

Mennnn! This is super good answer. However the fishes are still at fingerling level and have 2000pes in a plastic tank of 4ft by 4ft size. Hope to transfer them to a bigger pond(concrete pond) next week when its ok for use because i just constructed it. Thank you for your answers.
