Those who go on strike don't know that the problems the Nigerian government is facing are more serious than they think they know.

This yeye strike is a failure. Nigerians are wiser now. NLC did not do their homework very well. When a house is divided, you can't speak with one voice.
i think you should say Nigerians are dumber now. What wisdom is in the fact that the govt never consulted anyone, not even all its own minister and the labour and the other stakeholders b4 increasing poverty level in the country. Unions are divided, Yes! but the suffering of Nigerians presently is across board. Do you see this govt like one who respect you? If labour is ridiculed like you presently do, is it the selfish and incompetent NASS that 'll fight for you? watch and see, if you guys destroy the will of Labour Unions, you're opened up for all Destructive policies of this govt. Mark my words.

I remembered last year when I suggested that the best way to revitalise our economy is to remove fuel subsidy and devalue the Naira, Zombies cruxified me because their Lord and Master, PMB believed that subsidy must stay and Naira should not be devalued. I wrote then that time will tell as the government will soon realise that Nigeria cannot operates a socialist economy system.
Now that PMB has removed subsidy and is at the verge of devaluing the Naira, the same Zombies changed tune and started supporting subsidy removal. Haba.....can't they think or reason....? Why all this inconstitencies?
I am worried that NLC are not speaking with one voice to articulate the need of the Nigerian workers. For those who are happy of about the disarray in NLC, they should realise that Nigerians workers will suffer it on the long run. Very soon I predict that Federal and States Goverments will embacked on mass sacking of workers and there will be no NLC to fight for the workers.
PMB obviously mean't well for Nigerians. But his greatest enemies are his staunch followers and Zombies who supports whatever he does without thinking.

mbaboy:
NLC put ur house in order and speak with one voice, to me this strike is not necessary and should be called off immediately. NLC and TUC should negotiate a better welfare package for Nigerian workers and persuade government to come up with palliatives to cushion the effects of subsidy removal. I rest my case
salary increment is not the solution to the p
roblem, the price of petrol has increased whether you are earning salary or not you are affected, because it has already affected the price of general commodities in the market, now if minimum salary increase to let's say 40k, companies that produces goods or rendering service pay workers from their profit, the price of their services or goods will increase as well and transportation cost house rent and so on will skyrockets. What do you use the larger part of your salary for? food, rent, transportation and so on. I can still remember, in 1974 when Gowon introduced Udoji pay the effect was serious on the economy then, I think that's the starting point of our problems in nigeria

Meanwhile the strike is just booting slowly,
You don't need too much to get the strike, the hunger is across board, so is the suffering.
18,000 minimum wage buys you 100litres of fuel and 2500 naira tomatoes ...... and someone is happy that a strike is failinghuh Not a responsible person I think.
Re: Day 2: NLC -TUC Strike Updates by paymentvoucher: 9:18am On May 19, 2016
My own view about this Strike:
1. Only PDP States are on Full Strike
2. APC States are on Partial Strike/No Strike at all in Some states.
3. We the masses are the one suffering for this Strike (200 Naira per litre in my area, Kuli Kuli now 1 for 5N, transport fare now 2x)
4. From the NLC Chairman to the people in the Corridor of power (Governor, Senators, President.....) they don't know if there is fuel scarcity or no food in the Market, all they uses are ready made; Ready made Car with full tank of Fuel, Ready made food with better Combo, Ready made Money, even Ready made Wives and Prostitutes.
5. Bottom Line; no amount of strike can solve the issues on ground. ONLY GOD CAN INTERVENE. Back to work................

There was nothing like strike in Saki city, the headquarter of Saki-west local government of Oyo state. Both private abd public sectors are going on with thrum daily normal duty. But some government schools are contemplating joining the strike today.

If it's effective in just a handful states of 36, is that a success?
here in minna, niger state it is effective. FUT minna was shut down since yesterday. no academic activities as ssanu and ASUU have joined d strike. its better for federal government to persuade them to go back to the negotiation table and stop acting bossy before it's too late. no body has ever used gra gra to suppress NLC. u can ask abacha in his grave or obasanjo, Buhari can never be an exception.

All undergraduate programs in Federal universities in Nigeria have been shut down due to strike.
Re: Day 2: NLC -TUC Strike Updates by chimex001(m): 9:40am On May 19, 2016
There is no strike in Portharcourt and indeed Rivers State. The state govt has warned all its workers to disregard the strike, threatening "no work, no pay". on the street everywhere you go things are normal banks are working ,schools are open, Uniport had been shutdown as aresult of last protest, so from my standpoint the strike is a total flop in RS(a PDP state)
Re: Day 2: NLC -TUC Strike Updates by MikeB3(m): 9:41am On May 19, 2016
The strike is active in Ibadan and the whole of Oyo State as all public institutions and some private organizations didn't open since yesterday..... Few vehicular movement here and there.... Inflation on all commodities and citizens complaining bitterly. Having said that, as an optimist, I know Nigeria shall be great once again! #Itiswell

Slowly and surely things are grinding to a halt, the strike must succeed.
Re: Day 2: NLC -TUC Strike Updates by kadree(m): 10:05am On May 19, 2016
Kx:
Its more like.
1. Govt jacked up electricity tariff for darkness, NLC was not bothered and it pretended like everything was ok

2. State governors took huge bail out fund from FG yet still owe backlog of unpaid salaries, NLC saw nothing wrong in workers being owed

3. Permanent staff were being casualised and turned contract staff by chinese, indians and even Nigerian bosses in their fatherland, NLC 'formed" initial gra gra, drove down (when they deemed fit) collected egunje and left the fate of the staff worse than it was before they intervened.

4. Fuel sold for over N180 pl outside Lagos with long endless queues to buy even in Lagos, NLC pretended like all was well.

5.National assembly treated themselves to huge wage bill while workers languished with unpaid N18,000 minimum wage, NLC pretended like all was well.

6. Previous govts made series of promises to fix refineries and build new ones whenever NLC embarked on strike action in the past, yet failed all those promises after having laced NLC officials with Ghana must go bags of money, NLC saw nothing wrong in it.

7. Corruption held sway with previous successive govt amidst serious infrastructural decays and poor social investment, NLC pretended like all was well.
8. Graduates were fleeced of their N1000 in the name of immigration job and some even lost their lives, yet NLC pretended like all was well.

Is it now that NLC is forming activity in the name of strike that the masses should pretend that NLC means business?

This will turn out to be the most "indefinite"/ endless strike because NLC will quietly go back to work without having the courage/pride to say they have suspended the strike action.
Very sensible. U nailed it bro... U struck d bull's eyes. Many can learn from dis kind of pour out. Again, u get sense. Tuales aplenty sir.

Sorry but if it's effective in only a few states, it's a failure. End of story.
